The purpose of this study was to find out the correlations between mother-adolescent communication and quality of life in the adolescents. The study subjects consisted of 171 adolescents who were going to middle school and high school. The data included general characteristics, health related characteristics, stress, mother-adolescent communication and quality of life. The data were analyzed by frequency, mean, percentage, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson's correlation using the SPSS statistical program. The result were as follows: 1. The mean score for the stress of adolescent was 2.48(maximum score: 5) and there were significant difference according to demographic variables that is sex, grade, father's being and health related variables that is health status, frequently ill, illness severity and illness of family. 2. The mean score for the mother-adolescent communication was 3.27(maximum score : 5) and there were significant difference according to demographic variables that is father's and mother's being. There were no significant difference according to any health related variables. 3. The mean score for the quality of life of adolescent was 3.97(maximum score : 7) and there were no significant difference according to demographic and health related variables. 4. There was a negative correlation between the stress and the quality of life. There was a positive correlation between the quality of life and the mother-adolescent communication. There was a no correlation between the mother-adolescent communication and the quality of life. Consequently, the implication for nursing of this study is that there is a need to develop relief strategy of stress for the female adolescents. And there is a need to develop a promoting program of quality of life for the adolescents considering the stress and the mother-adolescent communication.

The cardiovascular manifestations in hyperthyroidism are sinus tachycardia, paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia, atrial flutter, atrial fibrillation, atrioventricular block, bundle branch block(especially right bundle branch block), angina pectoris, heart failure and cardiomyopathy. Of these, angina pectoris is commonly seen in hyperthyroidism with coronary artery disease and the potential mechanisms have been attributed to the increased metabolic demand and consequently increased cardiac work which result in the more demand of coronary blood flow than that can be delivered via a fixed atherosclerotic coronary artery stenosis. Hyperthyroidism associated anginas without underlying coronary artery stenosis have also been reported where the mechanism of these was suspected to be the coronary vasospasm. Ventricular fibrillation may occur in the thyrotoxic patients due to myocardial ischemia such as variant angina, but it is very rare in the condition without previous heart disease. A 30-year-old male was admitted to the hospital because of palpitation, weight loss and proptosis for the previous 3 months. There was no history of effort related chest pain, syncope, drug abuse or medical illnesses such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension. The laboratory results were, TSH: 0.38uU/mL(0.4~5,0 uU/mL), free T4: 8.9ng/dL(0.8~1.9ng/dL), TSH receptor antibody: 43.6%(-15~15%), antiTPO antibody: 5000 IU/mL(0~100 IU/mL). The initial EKG showed normal sinus rhythm. He was diagnosed as Graves disease with ophthalmopathy, class 3a and was put on propylthiouracil 200 mg po tid, propanolol 40 mg po tid and started solumedrol pulse therapy for the exophthalmos on the first day of admission. He was found to have generalized tonic seizure with apnea attack on second hospital day and twice thereafter. Ventricular fibrillation was documented at that time. DC cardioversion was performed with successful response. After the attack, he was treated as accelerated hyperthyroidism namely with increased dosage of propylthiouracil, dexamethasone and Lugols solution, The echocardiogram, treadmill test, ergonovine echocardiography, coronary angiography and electrophysiologic study disclosed no abnormalities. Further episodes of ventricular fibrillation didnt occur after being euthyroid state. In conclusion, we report a case of ventricular fibrillation associated with hyperthyroidism itself without underlying coronary artery disease with brief review of literatures.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to identify international students' use of university health centers by individual characteristics and seasons. METHODS: This was a retrospective descriptive study using data obtained from the electronic record system of one university health center. The study participants were international undergraduate students who registered for any of two semesters between March 1, 2014 and February 28, 2015 and visited the university health center during their registration period. RESULTS: The most common reasons for visits were problems of head, eye, nose and throat systems, followed by respiratory system. Their visits mostly occurred in the fall and spring. The most frequently used services were distribution of oral medication followed by wound treatment. The number of visits per individual was statistically different by gender (u=-3.307, p=.001), but not by their major (chi2=.543, p=0.762) or nationality (chi2=5.518, p=.271). CONCLUSION: Further study is necessary to better define health needs and related factors for this unique population. The electronic record system provides great opportunities in development and application of need based health services for international students and for research in this area.

A case of Factor V deficiency, the first case in Korea, is reported in a 9-year-old boy whose plasma concentration of Factor V was 6%. He complained of easy bruisability, prolonged bleeding from the mouth after minor trauma and hemarthrosis and flexion contracture of the right knee. His parents are heterozygous (maternal Factor V concentration 52%, paternal 40%).

Carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA19-9) is a specific tumor marker of the biliary, pancreatic and gastrointestinal tracts. CA19-9 is occasionally elevated in serum in patiens with benign pulmonary diseases such as bronchiectasis, idiopathic interstitial pneumonia or collagen disease-associated pulmonary fibrosis. Intralobar pulmonary sequestration is an uncommon congenital lung anomaly. It is dissociated from the normal tracheobronchial tree and is supplied by an anomalous systemic artery. There have been some reports of elevation of CA19-9 in this lesion. We report a case of intralobar pulmonary sequestration with elevated serum CA19-9 in a 29-year-old man who was diagnosed with bronchiectasia of left lower lung field on general check up. He had no evidence of any malignant disease in pancreatobiliary or gastrointestinal tracts. Elevated serum CA19-9 level might be encountered with benign pulmonary disease such as pulmonary sequestration.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to compare the accuracy of the implant master cast according to the type (pick-up, transfer) and the length (long, short) of the impression copings. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The metal master cast was fabricated with three internal connection type implant analogs (Osstem GS III analog), embedded parallel and with 10degrees of mesial angulation to the center analog. Four types of impression coping were prepared with different combinations of types (transfer, pick-up) and lengths (long, short) of the coping. The impressions were made using vinyl polysiloxane (one step, heavy + light body) with an individual tray, and 10 impressions were made for each group. Eventually, 40 experimental casts were produced. Then, the difference in the distance between the master cast and the experimental cast were measured, and the error rate was determined. The analysis of variance was performed using the SPSS (v 12.0) program (alpha = .05), and the statistical significance was set at P < .05. RESULTS: The ANOVA showed that the pick-up type impression coping exhibited a significantly lower error rate than the transfer type. However, no significant difference was observed with respect to the length of the impression coping. Additionally, no significant difference was observed between the parallel and mesial angulated groups. CONCLUSION: Within the limitations of this study, the pick-up type impression coping exhibited a more accurate implant master cast than the transfer type in parallel group. The accuracy of the implant master cast did not differ for different lengths of impression coping of at least 11 mm. Additionally, the accuracy of the implant cast was not different for the parallel and 10degrees mesial angulated groups.

OBJECTIVES: This research was conducted to identify the effects of a mother's nationality on adolescent oral health using data from the Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey (2016). METHODS: This research matched adolescent health behavior online survey results using propensity score matching and identified the influence of a mother's nationality on her adolescent child's oral health. A total of 715 adolescents whose mothers' nationalities were identified as not Korean were selected as research participants, and 715 adolescents were selected from 62,349 individuals whose mothers' nationalities were identified as Korean as a comparison group to undergo propensity score matching. RESULTS: Having a non-Korean mother showed no influence on adolescents' subjective oral health. Socioeconomic characteristics, oral health behaviors, and experience visiting dental clinics were identified as affecting oral health. CONCLUSIONS: The relationship between the characteristics of a multi-cultural family and oral health shown in this research suggests that health and welfare services essential to protect the rights to health must be maintained. Moreover, the results suggest that health services that focus on socioeconomically disadvantaged multi-cultural families must be seriously considered.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to identity the relationships among self reported health behaviors, menopausal symptoms, and sexual satisfaction in middle-aged women. METHOD: The subjects of this study were 155 women from 40 to 60 years. The data was analyzed using SPSS program for frequency, percentage, mean, t-test, ANOVA, Duncan and Pearson's correlation coefficients. RESULTS: 1. The mean score of health behaviors was 3.10 out of maximum 4. 2. The mean score of self-reported menopausal symptoms was 1.73 out of maximum 2. 3. The mean score of sexual satisfaction was 2.73 out of maximum 4. 4. Women's degree of menopausal symptoms had negative correlations with the degree of health behaviors(r=-0.437, p<.001) and the degree of sexual satisfaction(r=-0.439, p<.001). The degree of health behaviors had a positive correlation with the degree of sexual satisfaction (r=0.470, p<.001). CONCLUSION: In conclusion, menopausal symptoms-based complaints by middle-aged women were negatively correlated to health behavior and sexual satisfaction. Therefore, health behavior should be considered when developing nursing strategies for middle- aged women, especially when dealing with menopausal symptoms and sexual satisfaction.

We experienced a case of split hand split foot(SHSF) anomaly in a male neonate who had a deficiency of the middle finger, syndactyly of the 1st and 2nd finger and a deep median cleft in both hands. He also had a deep median cleft between 2nd and 3rd toe, syndactyly of the 1st and 2nd, 3rd and 4th toe without deficiency of the middle toe in both feet. SHSF anomaly may occur either isolated or associated with other anomalies. In this case, it occurd sporadically without family history and showed an isolated type without any other specific anomalies except both posterior iris synechiae. The karyotype of patient showed 46,XY,t(7p:14q) which has not been reported yet. We reported the case with the review of the associated literatures.

Background: Larger middle molecules are important substances associated with cardiovascular complications in end- stage renal disease. Unfortunately, larger middle molecules are not reliably removed by a high-flux dialyzer. A medium cut-off (MCO) membrane could effectively remove larger middle molecules. This study aimed to identify the long -term effect of the MCO membrane for changes of larger middle molecules. Methods: Thirty-four patients were prospectively analyzed for 12 months. The enrolled patients were divided into control and MCO groups. We measured the plasma levels of growth differentiation factor 15, sclerostin, and fibroblast growth factor 23 in larger middle molecules and those of biomarkers including small solutes. Single-pool Kt/V (spKt/V) and reduction ratios also were evaluated. Results: Plasma sclerostin did not increase significantly in patients using the MCO dialyzer (135.3 [–637.7 to 908.3], p = 0.715). And there was a significant difference in change of plasma sclerostin level between the two groups (–1,646.9 [–3,015.2 to –278.7], p = 0.033). Furthermore, a negative association between calcium and sclerostin was not observed in the MCO group (r = –0.142, p = 0.587). Solute clearance of larger middle molecules in the MCO group was significantly higher. Moreover, spKt/V values for patients in the MCO group were significantly increased without albumin loss. Values are presented as mean (95% confidence interval [CI]) or adjusted mean (95% CI). Conclusion The MCO dialyzer can increase dialytic adequacy and suppress the increase in plasma sclerostin level without significant albumin loss in patients with end-stage renal disease.
