In this study, the flower essential oil from Cananga odorata (Lamb.) Hook f.et Thomas, Annonaceae, of Vietnam was studied by GC and GC-MS,IR.20 components of the oil, intotal amounting to 93.3%, were identified. Linalool (21.3%), geranyl acetate (6.2%), -caryophyllene (7.3%), -cubebene+ germacrene D+g-cadinene (27.8%) and benzylbenzoate (13.4%) were the major components of the oil.

The response of the malarial parasite, Plasmodium falciparum to a number of Vietnamese medicinal plants in vitro was carried out. The results showed that the ethanol extract of the plant materials has a stronger inhibitory effect on the growth of P. faciparum than the corresponding water extract. Both ethanol and water extracts of the leaves of Dichroa febrifuge Lour. and the ethnologic extracts from the leaves of Parthenium hysterrophorus L. and Harrisonia perforate (Blanco) Merr. have a clear effect on the chloroquine sensitivity as well as the chloroquine resistant P. falciparum strain

From the aerial parts of Siegesbeckia orientalis L. (Asteraceae) growing in Vietnam, rutin was isolated for the first time and determined qualitatively and quantitatively by reversed phase high performance liquid chromatography. Rutin exhibited inhibitory effects on gram positive bacteria and found to be inactive against gram negative bacteria and proved to possess a clear antioxidative activity

Investigation on anti-microorganism and cytotoxic properties of alkaloids from Crinum latigolium L. and Crinu asiaticum L. (Amaryllidaceae) growing in Vietnam and seven pure alkaloids from these plants. The total alkaloids from C.latifolium L. and C. asiaticum L/ showed a strong effect against Sarcina lutea while pratorinine was found to be active against Staphylococcus aureus. Among the evaluated alkaloids, lycorine showed a very strong cytotoxic activity on Hep-G2, RD and Fi and 1-O-acetyl – lycorine exhibited a moderate activity on Hep-G2. The remaining alkaloids were found not to be cytotoxic in all tested cell lines.

For the first time, the chemical composition of the essential oil of Baeckea frutescens L. growing in Qu¶ng B×nh, Vietnam was investigated by means of GC, GC-MS, IR and 1H-NMR. 33 terpenoid components of the oil were identified. Monoterpennoids are the most abundant constituents of Baeckea oil. -Thujene (5.96%), -pinene (14.79%), -pinene (25.17%), p-cymene + limonene (11.09%), 1.8-cineol (10.12%), -terpinene (12.26%), linalool + terpinolene (5.12%) are the major components of the oil.
