Osteochondromas are common and typically arise from the metaphyseal ends of long bones. An osteochondral neoplasm of the soft tissue, which is a lesion of uncertain pathogenesis, is uncommon and usually arises from the synovial tissue in joints and tendon sheaths. Rarely, extraskeletal osteochondromas also arise outside of synovial compartments. Most of the reported cases were presented in the hands and feet, especially in the fingers. Here we describe a 44-yr-old female patient who presented with a pain in the left buttock. A well-defined osseous mass was detected in the buttock. It consisted of sharply demarcated, mature hyaline cartilage that was covered with a fibrous capsule, which changed gradually into cancellous bone, more pronouncedly at the center. The diagnosis of an extraskeletal osteochondroma should be considered when a discrete, ossified mass is localized in the soft tissues. A case of pathologically proven extraskeletal osteochondroma of the buttock is presented with a literature review, magnetic resonance imaging, and radiological findings.

OBJECTIVE: The aims of this article are to differentiate soft tissue masses showing low signal intensity on T2-weighted images (T2WIs) according to the histopathologic findings. CONCLUSION: To know relatively small numbered soft tissue masses with low signal intensities on T2WIs adding characteristic location, morphology, signal intensities on other sequences might be helpful for differential diagnosis of mostly nonspecific soft tissue tumors on MRI.

A retrospective study on 18 cases of mesenteric soft tissue tumor in Vietduc Hospital during 1991-2001 has shown that the duration of disease progress was 9 months. The ultrasound found precisely 44,4% of tumor positions. CT scanner only found precisely 1 position. The image diagnostic methods were not different from clinical diagnosis. The operation was major treatment, 83,3% of tumors were removed and there were no postoperative complications. The shortest survival duration was 11 months

Angiosarcoma with predominantly epithelioid features is a rare soft tissue neoplasm and the interpretation of its cytopathologic findings may be difficult. We report a case of metastatic angiosarcoma with predominantly epithelioid features diagnosed by liquid-based cytology. The cytopathologic findings in this case differed from those of the conventional preparation and we found a clean background, no hyperchromatic nuclei and several cytoplasmic changes, including intracytoplasmic vacuoles with peculiar shapes, juxtanuclear condensation and perinuclear clearing. Identification of these changes using liquid-based cytology supplemented with immunochemistry may be helpful in reaching a correct cytopathologic diagnosis.

In this article, I would like to define "oops lesions" as soft tissue mass-like lesions that involve surprise or embarrassment for radiologists following the final diagnosis. Examples of "oops lesions" include malignant tumors that appear benign, malignancy-mimicking benign tumors, incorrect identification of epidermal inclusion cysts, and soft tissue pseudotumors. Ultrasonography (US) findings are very helpful in the diagnosis of soft tissue tumors; however, the diagnosis of soft tissue tumors on the basis of US findings alone has some limitations. Therefore, clinical findings, laboratory data, findings from additional imaging modalities, and demographic data of patients should be considered together with US findings.
