We present a case of generalized grannuloma annulare with perforating and subcutaneous forms which occurred in a 15-year-old girl. Two years ago, multiple umbilicated, match head to pea sized, erythematous papules were noted on the upper extremities. Then the patient also experienced crusted or ulcerated erythematous papular lesions on the lower legs. Recently, tender, subcutaneous nodules appeared on both soles. The biopsy specimens from the skin lesions of the hand and the sole showed typical findings of granuloma annulare in the dermis and the subcutis, respectively. On the histopathological examination of the calf lesion, palisading granuloma as well as transepidermally eliminating dermal collagenous and necrotic material were seen. The skin lesions were almost completely improved by treatment with dapsone, 100mg a day, for 8 weeks orally.

Journal of Korean Academy of Oral Health 2021;45(3):145-150
Objectives:
This study aimed to identifying the relationship between exposure to secondhand smoking and oral diseases in adolescents, based on the web-based youth health risk behavior survey from 2020.
Methods:
Among the 54,948 adolescent respondents to the 16th youth health risk behavior survey in 2020, this study included a total of 48,867 non-smoking adolescent participants who had never used regular cigarettes, vapes, or e-cigarettes. Analysis of the complex sample survey data was performed by applying weights according to the complex sample provided by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency. Cross-tabulation analysis by complex sampling using the RaoScott chi-square test and complex-sample t-test was then performed to identify the relationship between subject characteristics and gingival pain and bleeding prevalence. Finally, a binary logistic regression analysis was performed to determine the effects of secondhand smoking on symptoms of gingival pain and bleeding in non-smoking adolescents. Data were analyzed using SPSS 26.0 version, and the statistical significance level was defined as P<0.05.
Results:
Among the participants, periodontal disease symptoms were reported 1.201 times (95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.101-1.310) more often in those with exposure to secondhand smoking exposure at home and 1.281 times (95% CI: 1.173-1.398) more often in those with exposure to secondhand smoking in public places than in those who did not report exposure to secondhand smoking.
Conclusions
The study results suggest that exposure to secondhand smoking increases the risk of gingival pain and bleeding in non-smoking South Korean adolescents and is a risk factor for periodontal diseases.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 2005;43(1):22-28
BACKGROUND: ZD1839 (Iressa(R)Gefitinib) is an orally active, selective epidermal growth factor (EGF) receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor that blocks signal production pathways in cell proliferation. It is currently used in the treatment of advanced stage non-small cell lung cancer. Cutaneous side effects commonly associated with ZD 1839 treatment include acneiform eruption, dry skin and hair growth abnormalities. Cutaneous eruptions result from direct interference with functions of EGF receptor signaling in the skin. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of our study was to investigate the clinical features of cutaneous side effects of ZD 1839 in Korean with literature review. We also analysed the relationship between skin rash severity, onset and objective tumor response. METHOD: We retrospectively reviewed medical records and the histologic materials of 23 Korean patients who had been treated with ZD 1839 at Ajou University Hospital from March 2002 to September 2003 . RESULTS: The results are summarized as follows. 1. The most common cutaneous side effect was acneiform skin rash (56%) which is a well known complication of ZD 1839. 2. Acneiform eruptions were easily controlled by oral antibiotics, such as minocycline and topical retinoid ointment. 3. The second common side effect was dry scaly skin (43%). 4. We also found acute paronychia, finger tip desquamation, alopecia and intertrigo. 5. The severity of the skin rash correlated well with the treatment response of ZD 1839. 6. When the skin rash appeared within 1 week after taking ZD 1839, the skin rash was severe, and the tumor responded well to the ZD 1839. CONCLUSION: The results of this study suggest that acneiform eruption and dry skin are the most common cutaneous side effects of ZD 1839. The association between rash severity and onset of tumor response suggests that the rash may serve as a marker of response to ZD1839 therapy and may be used to guide treatment to obtain optimal response. However, further prospective studies on the potentially important association between rash severity or onset and outcome of treatment with ZD 1839 are needed.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1998;36(2):241-245
BACKGROUND: It is mandatory to measure the minimal phototoxic dose(MPD) in order to determine adequate irradiation of UV-A in photochemotherapy. However, the measurement of MPD is not easy in some cases due to inadequte size and site of lesions, time and manpower. OBJECTIVE: The purspose of this study was to standardize the minimal phototoxic dose for a vitiliginous lesion. METHODS: The minimal phototoxic dose of UV-A was measured in 82 vitiligo patients. Then we analyzed the MPD according to the sex, age, site of the vitiliginous lesions, duration of disease, and administration route of the photosensitizer. RESULTS: 1. There were no significant differences between exposed and unexposed areas in MPD in both cases of topical and systemic administration of the photosensitiser. 2. There was no significant correlation between disease duration and MPD in both cases of topical and systemic administration of the photosensitiser. 3. In the group of topical application of 8-methoxypsoralen cream, MPD for males and females were 0.53+0.38J/cm2 and 0.48+0.32J/cm2 respectively without significant difference in sex. 4. In the group of systemic administration of 8-methoxypsoralen, there was a significant difference between males and females in MPD. The MPD in males and females were 1.38+0.72J/cm2 and 2.51 + 1.40J/cm2, respectively. 5. In the group of topical application of 8-methoxypsoralen cream, the MPD in 2nd decade patients was the highest(0.80+0.55J/cm2). The MPD had a tendency to decrease gradually as age receded from the 2nd decade. 6. In the group of systemic administration of 8-methoxypsoralen, there was a tendency for the MPD to be increased according to age without statistical significance. 7. MPD in the group systemically administrated with 8-methoxypsoaralen was four-fold to that of the topical application group. CONCLUSION: It may be valuable to keep in mind that there was a statistical differrence in MPD between sexes in systemic administration of the photosensitizer, and that MPD was different according to patients age in the topical application group.

Journal of Veterinary Science 2011;12(1):35-40
Voltage-gated K+ (Kv) channels have been considered to be a regulator of membrane potential and neuronal excitability. Recently, accumulated evidence has indicated that several Kv channel subtypes contribute to the control of cell proliferation in various types of cells and are worth noting as potential emerging molecular targets of cancer therapy. In the present study, we investigated the effects of the Kv1.1-specific blocker, dendrotoxin-kappa (DTX-kappa), on tumor formation induced by the human lung adenocarcinoma cell line A549 in a xenograft model. Kv1.1 mRNA and protein was expressed in A549 cells and the blockade of Kv1.1 by DTX-kappa, reduced tumor formation in nude mice. Furthermore, treatment with DTX-kappa significantly increased protein expression of p21Waf1/Cip1, p27Kip1, and p15INK4B and significantly decreased protein expression of cyclin D3 in tumor tissues compared to the control. These results suggest that DTX-kappa has anti-tumor effects in A549 cells through the pathway governing G1-S transition.

Korean Journal of Allergy 1997;17(4):549-555
To detect causative allergens in type I hypersensitivity diseases, several methods have been used. Among those, skin prick test is easy to perform and sensitive. Several criteria presenting positive reactions have been used. Therefore, we tried to find out more sensitive and specific criteria for deciding a positive reaction on skin prick test in 57 patients(allergic rhinitis; 39, bronchial asthma ; 5, acute urticaria ; 2, chronic urticaria ; 11) with 69 allergens and compared the reproducibility between each positive criteria. We calculated the ratio of wheal size caused by each allergen to that of histamine and defined as "A" in case of it's ratio was over 0.5, "B" in case of over 0.7, "C" in case of over 1.0. The results were as follows, 1. The positive rate of house dust on skin prick test was the highest, and D. farinae, cat fur, D. pteronyssinus, mixture of cat fur, house dust, horse hair, dog hair in order. 2. Mean reproducibilities of four common allergens in each positive criteria were 91% in criteria A, 88% in criteria B, and 82% in criteria C. 3. Comparing between mean reproducibilities by earth positive criteria, in positive criteria between 0.5 and 0.7 and positive criteria between 0.7 and 1.0, there were no significant differences, but in positive criteria between 0.5 and 1.0, statistical significant difference was noted. In conclusion, it was suggested that the ratio of wheal sizes of allergen to histamine greater than 0.7 might be ideal for a positive skin prick test.

Journal of the Korean Society of Biological Therapies in Psychiatry 2021;27(2):124-130
Objectives:
:The purpose of this study was to identify characteristic Vibraimage parameters in schizophrenia spectrum and other psychotic disorders.
Methods:
:This study retrospectively analyzed subjects who were referred to the National Forensic Hospital in Gongju city for psychiatric evaluation between April 2019 and October 2019. After divided into two groups; Schizophrenia Spectrum Disorders group and non-organic non-psychotic disorders group, Vibraimage parameters and MMPI-2 items were compared between the two groups. In addition, we investigated the relations between Vibraimage parameters and MMPI-2 items characteristic of schizophrenia spectrum and other psychotic disorders by using the Correlation analysis.
Results:
:Compared to non-organic non-psychotic disorders group, Schizophrenia Spectrum Disorders group scored low at Aggression (t=-2.752, p=0.007), Tension (t=-2.106, p=0.039), and Suspects (t=-2.617, p=0.011); high at Neuroticism (t=4,215, p<0.001) in the Vibraimage, and the group scored comparatively high at Sc (Schizophrenia) (t=-2.099, p=0.039) and low at Hy (Hysteria) (t=-2.228, p=0.029) in the MMPI-2. The Sc (Schizophrenia) item in the MMPI-2 showed a negative correlation with Suspect parameter (r=0.242 p=0.035) and positive correlation with Neuroticism parameter (r=0.267, p=0.02) in the Vibraimage.
Conclusion
:Our findings suggest that Suspect and Neuroticism parameters of the Vibraimage were characteristic in schizophrenia spectrum and other psychotic disorders, and showed potential as diagnostic tools, especially in psychiatric evaluations.
