1.Shear bond strength of Universal bonding systems to Ni-Cr alloy.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the shear bond strength between Ni-Cr alloy and composite resin using universal adhesive systems coMPared to conventional method using metal primers. MATERIALS AND METHODS: For this study, a total of 120 cast commercial Ni-Cr alloy (Vera Bond 2V) disks were embedded in acrylic resin, and their surfaces were smoothed with silicon carbide papers and airborne-particle abrasion. Specimens of each metal were divided into 6 groups based on the combination of metal primers (Metal primer II, Alloy primer, Metal & Zirconia primer, MKZ primer) and universal adhesive systems (Single Bond Universal, All Bond Universal). All specimens were stored in distilled water at 37degrees C for 24 hours. Shear bond strength testing was performed with a universal testing machine at a cross head speed of 1 m/min. Data (MPa) were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and the post hoc Tukey's multiple comparison test (alpha=.05). RESULTS: There were significant differences between Single Bond Universal, All Bond Universal, Metal Primer II and Alloy Primer, MKZ Primer, Metal & Zirconia Primer (P<.001). CONCLUSION: Universal Adhesive system groups indicated high shear bond strength value bonded to Ni-Cr alloy than that of conventional system groups using primers except Metal Primer II. Within the limitations of this study, improvement of universal adhesive systems which can be applied to all types of restorations is recommended especially non-precious metal alloy. More research is needed to evaluate the effect of silane inclusion or exclusion in universal adhesive systems.

2.Heterophyid trematodes (Heterophyopsis continua, Pygidiopsis summa and Heterophyes heterophyes nocens) from domestic cats in Korea.

During 8 april 1983 to 9 April 1985, a total of 181 domestic cats (Felis catus domestica Linnaeus) of unknown localities in Korea were purchased at Seoul Chung-ang market, and the internal organs were dissected for helminth infections. In the results, three kinds of trematodes of family Heterophyidae (Ohdner, 1914) were obtained from small intesine of domestic cats and identified as follows: five adult worms of Heterophyopsis continua (Onji et Nishio, 1916) from three hosts, two hundreds and twenty three adult worms of Pygidiopsis summa Onji et Nishio, 1916 from seven hosts and twenty six adult worms of Heterophyes heterophyes nocens (Onji et Nishio, 1916) from three hosts. Among them, Heterophyopsis continua and Pygidiopsis summa had not been proved as natural infectios of cats in Korea.

3.Adult Onset Still's Disease Developed in a Patient with Membranous Nephropathy Treated with Immunosuppressive Agent.

Adult onset Still's disease (AOSD) is a rare systemic inflammatory disease characterized by high spiking fever, leukocytosis, high serum ferritin, salmon-colored rash, arthritis, lymphadenopathy, and hepatosplenomegaly. The etiology of AOSD is obscure. AOSD is diagnosed after exclusion of infection, malignancy and other connective tissue diseases. A 53-year-old female patient with membranous nephropathy was admitted with high fever and leukocytosis. She was taking immunosuppressive agents with low dose steroid and cyclosporine to control of proteinuria caused by membranous nephropathy. She was initially treated with antibiotics, antiviral agent and antifungal agent to control of hidden infection. High spiking fever was sustained for 2 weeks and controlled after hydrocortisone treatment. AOSD was diagnosed according to the criteria of Yamaguchi. It should be considered that AOSD is a cause of high fever in patients treated with immunosuppressive agents.
