Journal of Korean Academy of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing 2017;26(2):151-162
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to examine economic stress, depression, suicidal ideation, resilience and social support in college students and to examine the correlation between these variables. METHODS: The participants were 157 3th and 4th year college students. Data were collected in September and October, 2016. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression. RESULTS: Students' economic hardship and worry about future economic security, sub-categories of economic stress had positive correlations with depression and suicidal ideation. Economic hardship showed a significant negative correlation with resilience but no correlation with social support while worry about future economic security had negative correlations with resilience and social support. Factors significantly influencing suicidal ideation were depression (β=.37, p<.001) and social support (β=−.31, p<.001), with a total explanatory power of 36% (F=9.09, p<.001). CONCLUSION: These findings indicate that intervention strategies for managing economic stress in college students should include developing resilience and providing social support as well as decreasing depression and suicidal ideation.

Journal of Korean Academic Society of Nursing Education 2022;28(2):204-217
Purpose:
This study was conducted to determine the factors affecting a hypothetical model of testing for general hospital nurses’ job embeddedness.
Methods:
Data were collected from August 20 to September 19, 2021, by a self-administered questionnaire answered by 428 general hospital nurses. The data were analyzed by SPSS and AMOS.
Results:
Nine of the hypothetical model’s 12 hypotheses were supported by the data collected from all participants. The test results indicate that ego resilience, subjective career success, and recovery experience from job stress directly affect participants’ job embeddedness. Nurses’ work environments were reported to affect ego resilience and subjective career success, while at the same time ego resilience and subjective career success affected the participants’ job embeddedness. Work-life balance was found to affect ego resilience and ego resilience affected subjective career success, and at the same time subjective career success directly affected participants’ recovery experiences from job stress and job embeddedness. Of these variables, subjective career success had the strongest direct effect on participants’ job embeddedness. Work-life balance affected the participants’ recovery experiences from job stress, and their recovery experiences from job stress were found to directly affect job embeddedness.
Conclusion
These results suggest that different management strategies to enhance hospital nurses’ job embeddedness should address nurses’ ego resilience, subjective career success, and recovery experiences from job stress.

This study investigated the effects of high amylose starch (HAS) consumption on gut functions in male Sprague-Dawley rats. Experimental animals were fed an diet containing HAS for 4 weeks (0, 125, 250, 500 g/kg diet). Stool weights, transit time, the pH of cecum, Bifidobacterium growth, short chain fatty acid production, and prostaglandin E2 production in colon mucus were measured. HAS intake did not affect body weight gain or food efficiency ratio during experimental period. There were no significant differences in kidney weight, epididymal fat pad weights or spleen weights, but the weights of the liver and thymus were significantly lower in the HAS100 group. The length of the large intestine, the weights of the cecum wall and cecum contents, and stool weights significantly increased through HAS intake. But transit time was not affected by the experimental diet. Although Bifidobacterium growth in the cecum increased through the HAS intake dose dependently, there were significant differences in the HAS50 and HAS100 groups. HAS intake increased the production of short chain fatty acid in the cecum contents. In particular, acetate and butyrate concentrations grew significantly. And the production of prostaglandin E2 in the colon mucus significantly decreased through HAS intake. These results demonstrate that high amylose starch intake significantly improves gut function.

Journal of the Korean Society of Neonatology 2006;13(1):105-110
PURPOSE: Ultrasonography is being widely used as a standard test in obstetric care, studies on congenital hydronephrosis. Focusing on specific prenatal history and frequently associated anomalies in newborn infants with hydronephrosis, this investigation was intended to suggest particulars that need to be considered in making an accurate diagnosis of fetal hydronephrosis. METHODS: From May 2000 to May 2005, retrospective study was conducted on 67 patients (93 kidney) who had been diagnosed by renal ultrasonography during neonatal periods. Hydronephrosis was defined as having a pelvic diameter more than 5 mm, and was classified into three groups according to their severity;mild (grade I, II), moderate (grade III) and severe (grade IV). RESULTS: This study included 67 cases with 54 male and 13 female infants. There were 35 cases with a specific prenatal history in 22 infants such as oligohydramnios, intrauterine growth retardation, preeclampsia and others. 33 cases in 23 infants had associated anomalies such as urogenital anomalies, cardiac anomalies. Of these 67 infants (97 kidneys), 49.5% was mild, 30.1% moderate, 20.4% severe hydronephrosis. Infants with moderate hydronephrosis had more specific prenatal history and associated anomaly than the mild hydronephrosis did (68.2% vs 31.8%, P<0.001 73.7% vs 26.3%, P<0.001). CONCLUSION: Particular attention should be paid for cases with congenital hydronephrosis with a specific prenatal history to find out any associated congenital anomalies (such as urogenital or cardiac anomalies). This will enable clinicians to establish a more appropriate treatment and postnatal care.

The use of implants could improve the support, retention, and stability of removable prosthetic restoration for fully edentulous patients with severe alveolar bone resorption. When the prosthesis is manufactured without accurate diagnosis and evaluation, this may lead to unfavorable treatment result. The patient in this case had the treatment of implant overdentures at a private dental clinic, but visited the hospital for retreatment due to soft tissue pain and decreasing retention of existing dentures. The vertical dimension was raised compared to the existing dentures, and overdentures were manufactured using milled bars and additional attachments. The clinical results were satisfactory in the aspect of improved oral hygiene maintenance, function and esthetics.

International Journal of Oral Biology 2016;41(4):231-236
Inhibition of Rho-associated coiled coil-containing kinase (ROCK) has been reported to promote differentiation of neuronal cells. Here, we examined the effect of Y-27632, a ROCK inhibitor, on the outgrowth of neurites in PC12 cells. Y-27632 caused a rapid induction of neurite outgrowth in PC12 cells in a time-dependent manner. The neurite outgrowth, triggered by Y-27632, was accompanied by Rac1 activation, and was attenuated by Rac1 inhibitor NSC23766, in a concentration-dependent manner. Y-27632 also induced an increase in the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Pretreatment with N-acetylcysteine, an ROS scavenger, inhibited the ROS generation and neurite outgrowth in response to Y-27632. These results indicate that the activation of Rac1 and the generation of ROS contribute to the neurite outgrowth triggered by Y-27632 in PC12 cells.

Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 1995;33(3):395-398
Mucin-hypersecreting biliary neoplasm excretes excessive mucin that fills the biliary tree and results in marked dilatation of the bile ducts and obstructive jaundice. In these neoplasm, the mucin produced by the tumor rather than the tumor itself plays an important role in clinical course and radiologic patterns. The purpose of this paper is to report characteristic radiologic patterns of mucin-hypersecreting biliary neoplasms in two cases. These neoplasms were characterized by not only multilocular cystic hepatic mass or extra-hepatic bile duct mass resulting in marked biliary dilatation distal to the mass on US or CT, but also change of shape and extent of amorphous filling defects in the markedly dilated bile duct on serial cholangiograms.
