Promoting women's health lifestyles are important due to their connection to family health. The purpose of this study was to analyse women's health lifestyles(HLP) and their effects on women's life-cycle, so in order to develop a program in a women's health care center. The subjects included were 1080 women over 18 years old living in Wonju city, and were selected by stratified and purposive sampling. The data were collected through a questionnaire and interview. The Cronbach alpha, %, mean, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and regression in SPSS PC Win. package was used to analyze the data. The sample was sepernted into three groups premarital group 20.2%(premarital women between 18 and 40 years old), delivery and children rearing group 49.9%(marital women between 18 and 40 years old), over middle agedelderly group 29.9%(women over 41 years old). Significant difference were found in the HPL according to group. Also, relating variables, such as self-efficacy, family functions, health locus of control and gender role perception that were considered relating variables to HPL significantly differed among the tree groups. HLP significantly correlated with self-efficacy, family functions, HLOC and gender role perception in all participants and at all groups. The regression analysis of HPL was interpreted 40.6% with relating variables, self-efficacy, health attention, family functions, and internal locus of control, health perception, power other locus of control and chance locus of control in all participant. Self-efficacy, family functions, health attention were considered important variables in premarital group, self-efficacy, family functions, internal locus of control, health attention, health perception and power of control were important in delivery-rearing group. Self-efficacy, health attention, internal locus of control, family functions and health perception were important in middle aged-elderly group. As a result, we found the differences HPL scores and relating variables according to life-cycle groups. Therefore, we should prepare health promoting education programs for women according to women's life cycles. Also we suggest that women's health care centers based on communities was needed for proper management of women's health.

Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 1994;31(1):91-98
PURPOSE:To evaluate the role of unenhanced CT in diagnosing the acute appendicitis. METHOD AND MATERIALS: We retrospectively analyzed conventional contrast-enhanced abdominal CT scans of 197 normal patients and barium enemas of 26 out of the 197 patients. Additional unenhanced CT scans of right lower abdomen were performed on 30 patients who were suspected of having acute appendicitis;barium enema was performed in 26 patients. RESULTS: in the analysis of the conventional CT scans, we could detect 132(67%) normal appendicies. On barium enema of 26 out of 197 patients, abruptly narrowed appendix was visualized in 5 cases and luminal irregularity in 4 cases but all 26 cases showed normal appendix on CT. In the 30 cases of unenhanced CT, all appendicies were visualized. Among 12 Cases which were proved as acute appendicitis, barium enenma was done in 10 case;abruptly narrowed appendix was shown in 3 and luminal irregularity in 1. Among 18 cases which were diagnosed as normal appendix, nonvisualization of appendix' was in 1 case, abruptly narrowed lumen in 3, and luminal irregularity in 9. CONCLUSION:Unenhanced CT in the area of the cecum may be an effective and safe diagnostic tool for acute appendicitis.

Asian Oncology Nursing 2015;15(3):123-131
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to identify trends in nursing research on children and adolescents with cancer in Korea and suggest the direction for future research. METHODS: A COSI model was used to guide the search process between the years 1988 and 2014, using the keywords 'cancer', 'malignancy', 'leukemia', 'HSCT', 'BMT', 'children', 'adolescent' and 'nursing'. RESULTS: Of 104 papers, 10 were doctoral dissertations, 34 were master's theses and 60 were from academic journals. Quantitative research accounted for 91.3% while qualitative research accounted for 7.7%. The most frequently used research designs were quasi-experimental (84.6%) for experimental research and surveys (75.6%) for non-experimental research. As survival rates improved, the focus shifted to descriptive studies examining the adjustment of childhood cancer survivors. CONCLUSION: The overall findings of this study suggest that future research should include more well-designed experimental studies and repeated studies to confirm the effect of previous study findings. Longitudinal studies are recommended to determine long-term child adjustment. Supporting systems and funding are required to help activate research of clinical nurses.

Yeong-Mi SEO ; Won-Hee CHOI ; So Young CHOI
Journal of the Korean Society of Maternal and Child Health 2023;27(4):238-246
Purpose:
The objective of this study was to develop a structural model to assess and forecast the quality of life in climacteric women, focusing the concept of salutogenesis.
Methods:
Participants were sourced from two urban locations through convenience sampling. Data collection involved questionnaires, analyzed using SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 20.0. Assessment instruments comprised the Menopause Rating Scale, New General Self-Efficacy Scale, Sense of Coherence Scale, and the Korean version of the WHOQOL-BREF.
Results:
The fit indices of the proposed model met recommended standards. The sense of coherence, menopausal symptoms, and self-efficacy accounted for 58% of the quality of life variance, with sense of coherence emerging as the most significant predictor. Menopausal symptoms directly and negatively affected quality of life (β=-0.30, p<0.001), and had an indirect influence through self-efficacy and integration (β=-0.30, p<0.001). Self-efficacy positively influenced quality of life directly (β=0.27, p<0.001) and indirectly through integration (β=0.14, p=0.001). Integration positively affected quality of life directly (β=0.36, p<0.001).
Conclusion
Interventions to bolster sense of coherence are crucial for enhancing the quality of life among climacteric women.

Korean Journal of Clinical Pathology 1998;18(3):414-419
BACKGROUND: Various molecular methods such as polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and DNA hybridization have been introduced to diagnose the hepatitis B more accurately. Recently, Hybrid Capture Assay (HCA) was developed, which uses the signal amplification solution hybridization capture assay with chemiluminescent detector. So we evaluated the sensitivity and clinical utility of the HCA and PCRs for the detection of hepatitis B virus DNA (HBV DNA) and compared these results with serologic markers. METHODS: We analysed the 50 samples from the hepatitis B patients using enzyme immunoassay, HCA and nested PCRs with two different primer sets. The primers of PCR I and PCR II were targeted to pol and core region respectively. RESULTS: In 18 cases, HBV DNA were detected by HCA in which the positive rates by PCR I and PCR II were 55.6%, and 88.9%, respectively. And in 32 cases in which HBV DNA by HCA was negative, the positive rates by PCR I and PCR II were 6.2% and 31.3%, respectively. In 44 cases which were positive for HBsAg, the positive rates for HBV DNA were 38.6% by HCA, 27.3% by PCR I, and 56.8% by PCR II. In cases positive for HBeAg, the positive rates were 93.3% by HCA, 60.0% by PCR I and 80.0% by PCR II. In cases positive for anti-HBe and negative for HBeAg, the positive rates were 10.3% by HCA, 10.3% by PCR I, and 44.8% by PCR II. CONCLUSIONS: Both HCA and PCR compensated each other yet as to the accurate investigation of the viral replication in patients with hepatitis B and the sensitivity was better in HBV PCR with primers to core region than to pol region.

Journal of Korean Academy of Adult Nursing 2007;19(4):517-526
PURPOSE: This study examined the correlations among family support, morale, and quality of life in the elderly. METHODS: Descriptive correlational study design was used. The subjects were 131 elderly people 65 and older who have lived in Seoul and other three cities. The data were analyzed with mean, SD, t-test, ANOVA, and pearson's correlation by using the SPSS 11.0 program. RESULTS: First, the mean of family support was 3.71, morale 3.25, and quality of life 3.02 respectively. Second, the correlation between quality of life and family support was statistically significant(r=.264, p=.00), the correlation between quality of life and morale was also statistically significant(r=.484, p=.00), and the correlation between family support and morale was also statistically significant(r=.430, p=.00). CONCLUSION: Family support for the elderly in the study was confirmed as the primary important concept which can positively maintain and promote the quality of their life. Also, the correlation between morale and family support was verified as significant. Further study is needed to develop a nursing intervention program for morale improvement with a network of family support with their children, ultimately for quality of life among the elderly.

7.The Fasting Serum Glucose, Insulin and C-peptide Levels in Children with Obesity.
So Hoon BYUN ; Won Hee SEO ; Byung Min CHOI ; Kee Hyoung LEE
Journal of Korean Society of Pediatric Endocrinology 2003;8(1):73-80
PURPOSE:The prevalence of childhood obesity has been increased rapidly, associated with high morbidity of dyslipidemia, cardiovascular risk factors and insulin resistance/hyperinsulinemia. Hyperinsulinemia in obese children may depend on either increased insulin secretion or decreased insulin clearance. We investigate whether insulin secretion and clearance are different between obese and normal weight children. METHODS:The body mass index(BMI), fasting serum glucose, insulin and C-peptide levels were measured in 101 children(52 obese children and 49 non-obese controls) in Ansan area, from 6 to 14 years old. Fasting serum C-peptide/insulin ratio, insulin/glucose ratio, homeostasis model assessment(HOMA) were calculated and compared between obese and control group. RESULTS:The fasting serum insulin and C-peptide levels were significantly higher in obese group than in controls. The C-peptide/insulin ratio was significantly lower and insulin/glucose ratio was significantly higher in obese group than in controls. There were positive correlations between BMI and fasting serum insulin level, fasting insulin/glucose ratio and HOMA. The prevalence of hyperinsulinemia is higher in obese adolescents than in controls. CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest that increased insulin secretion and decreased insulin clearance may contribute to hyperinsulinemia in obese children.

8.Sodium Bicarbonate Solution versus Chlorhexidine Mouthwash in Oral Care of Acute Leukemia Patients Undergoing Induction Chemotherapy: A Randomized Controlled Trial.
Asian Nursing Research 2012;6(2):60-66
PURPOSE: The objective of this study was to compare the effectiveness of sodium bicarbonate (SB) solution with chlorhexidine (CHX) mouthwash in oral care of acute leukemia patients under induction chemotherapy. METHODS: Forty-eight patients were randomly selected and assigned to an SB solution group or CHX-based product group according to acute myelogenous leukemia or acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Patients were asked to rinse their mouth four times a day from the day before chemotherapy started until discharge. The World Health Organization mucositis grade, patient-reported Oral Mucositis Daily Questionnaire, and clinical signs associated with infection were assessed on a daily basis. The oral microbial count was assessed on a weekly basis from the 1st day of chemotherapy started to the 28th day or to the day of discharge from the hospital. RESULTS: Of all the patients in the SB group, 25.0% developed ulcerative oral mucositis, whereas 62.5% in the CHX group did. The onset of oral mucositis was later in the SB group than the CHX group. The oral bacterial colonization in the SB group was significantly higher than that in the CHX group, but clinical signs associated with infection did not differ in both groups. CONCLUSION: As a result of this study, it was found that oral care by SB solution for acute leukemia patients undergoing chemotherapy was an effective intervention to improve oral health.

9.A Case of Elastofibroma.
Dai Ho KIM ; So Hee JEONG ; Sung Woo CHOI ; Chung Won KIM ; Seok Jin KANG
Korean Journal of Dermatology 1999;37(3):417-419
Elastofibroma is a rare disease which presents as a slowly-growing, solid, ill-defined fibroelastic mass occuring almost exclusively in elderly women and arising mainly from the connective tissue between the lower part of the scapula and chest wall. Of the 270 cases of elastofibroma which have been reported, 170 cases had developed in Japanese patients. Despite the fact that there have been only two case reports in Korea, there might be a higher prevalence of elastofibroma in Korea than expected because of geographical similarity. We experienced a case of elastofibroma occurring in a 56-year-old man. To our knowledge, this is the first case report of elastofibroma in Korean dermatologic of literature.

10.A Meta-Analysis of Effects of Relaxation Therapy on Anxiety and Blood Pressure.
Hee Seung KIM ; Hae Hiang SONG ; So Eun CHOI
Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing 2000;30(2):282-292
A meta-analysis of 14 quasi-experimental studies was conducted to compare the effect of size on various relaxation therapies applied to patients and health volunteer students. These studies were selected from theses, dissertations and papers that have been done between 1982 to 1993. Also They have a randomized or nonequivalent control group in a pre test-post test design. The studies were evaluated in different ways; 1) types of relaxation therapy, 2) total amount of time of relaxation therapy, and 3) types of outcome variables. For a group of homogenious studies, the weighted mean effect size and standard error were estimated. Some findings are summarized as follows : 1. Jacobson relaxation therapy had a larger effect on systolic and diastolic blood pressures than on state anxiety. 2. For the total time of relaxation therapy, (longer than 60 minutes) had a much larger effect in decreasing systolic and diastolic blood pressures than in the case of a time period shorter than 60 minutes. 3. Relaxation therapy applied to surgery patients also had a larger effect in decreasing state anxiety than when applied to other patients.
