4.Survey on the smoking habit of students at Ha Noi College of Medicine years 2000-2001

1592 students from 1st class to 6th class in the school years 2000-2001 were enrolled into the study. Among student, general percentage of smoking were 14.10% (22.56% of male) and this percentage increased with the school grade, 1st class: 4.88%, 2nd class: 11.43%, 3rd class: 21.18%, with moderate smoker the mean consumption was 1.25 pack/year. The withdrawal percentage was 19.6%, among them 6.38% attempted to smoke again. In 95.9%, there was an awareness on the harm of smoking on health. 63% noted that teachers did not pay attention to tobacco control.

6.The relation between smoke and catarrhal otitis media

The influence of smoke on otitis media was investigated on 1168 children from 1 to 15 years old of age in Trung Tu and Kim Lien Quarters (Ha Noi) from July 2000 to 2001. The interview was performed on their parents with a questionary of 19 issues concerning the risk factor of otitis media, the examination of ENT and the measuring of ear volume were exerted by two times in all subjects during the period of 1 year. Results showed a prevalence of 8,9% of otitis media in Ha Noi children, the rate of boys is higher than that of girls. Smoke and environment pollution is one of the risk factors of high pulmonary tract infection and of catarrhal otitis media

7.Relationship between age, sex, occupation of smokers and their interest to warnings in pack of cigarettes in 2004

Study on 1227 adults smokers living in Ha Noi city, Da Nang city, Ho Chi Minh city and Ha Nam province in 2004 showed that: the interest to warnings in pack of cigarettes related to occupation. Dealers, unemployments had less care to the warnings than freelancers. People had smoked over 15 years had much interest than ones smoked from 10 to 15 years. People smoke 1-2 cigarettes per day and 3-4 cigarettes per day had less care to the warnings than those smoke 10-20 cigarettes per day. There was no relationship between age, condition of health and the interest to warnings in pack of cigarettes
