OBJECTIVE: To analyze the impact of extraction and nonextraction in soft tissue profile repair. METHODS: Databases of CNKI, Wanfang, VIP Chinese Periodical Database, CBM, Medline (ovid) and Science direct had been searched for studies of soft tissue profile after orthodontic treatment with and without extractions published in recent decade, with orthodontics, corrective, tooth extraction, soft tissue profile as key words. Hand searching was also done to obtain any further information about the studies. Meta analysis was used to comprehensively quantitatively analyze the upper (lower) lip with esthetic plane and soft tissue plane before and after extraction and nonextraction treatment. According to homogeneity test, fixed effect model and random effect model were adopted to calculate weighted mean difference (WMD) and 95% confidence interval (95% Cl).Revman 5.0 was used for data management. RESULTS: Five studies with 356 patients were included. Homogeneity test showed that lower lip-esthetic line and lower lip-soft tissue line Ⅰ~2 < 50%, without heterogeneity, so fixed effect model was adopted. Upper lip-esthetic line and upper lip-soft tissue line were more than 50%, indicating heterogeneity, so random effect model was adopted. Result of meta-analysis showed that, the WMD value and 95% Cl of lower lip-esthetic line, lower lip-soft tissue line, and upper lip-soft tissue line has statistically significance. CONCLUSION: The extraction treatment significantly decreased the distance of lower lip-esthetic line, lower lip-soft tissue line, and upper lip-soft tissue line.

Effect of-berberine on reperfusion arrhythmias was studied using a 10 rain left anterior descending coronary artery occlusion followed by reperfusion in the isolated rat heart. Berberine, when given 10min before coronary ligation, reduced the incidence of reperfusion arrhythmias in a dose-riependent manner. With 10-5, 3. 16?10-5 and 10-4 mol/L of berberine, ventricular fibrillation was reduced from its control incidence of 100% to 90%, 70% and 40% (P

The association between serum fetuin A and diabetic nephropathy (DN) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM) was investigated.Serum levels of fetuin-A and adiponectin were measured by ELISA and the clinical data were collected in 101 T2DM patients with normal albuminuria (NA group),87 patients with microalbuminuria (MA group),44 patients with overt albuminuria (OA group),and 130 normal control subjects (NC group).Fetuin-A levels increased progressively from NC,NA,MA,to OA groups, and there were significant differences among groups(P<0.05 or P<0.01).Fetuin-A level in patients was positively associated with duration of illness, urinary albumin to creatinine ratio (ACR),fasting blood glucose,2-hour postprandial blood glucose, and C-reactive protein(CRP,P<0.05 or P<0.01),but was negatively associated with age and adiponectin (all P< 0.01).Multiple stepwise regression analysis indicated that duration of diabetes,fetuin-A,CRP,and adiponectin were independent determinants for ACR (all P < 0.01).Fetuin-A may be involved in the development and pathogenesis of DN by proinflammatory effects and repressing adiponectin production.

Objective To investigate the effects of interferon alpha?2b(IFNα?2b)on serum Hepcidin in hepatitis C patients and its mechanism. Methods Hepatitis C patients were divided evenly into treatment group and control group according to whether they had received treatment with IFNα?2b in the past 3 months. The serum hepci?din was compared between the two groups. HepG2 cells and LO2 cells were treated for 24 hours at varied levels of IFNα?2b(0,50,100,200,400μL)and real?time PCR was used to detect the hepcidin,interleukin?6(IL?6)and signal transduction and transcription activator 3(STAT3)mRNA expression of cells. The protein levels of STAT3 and phosphorylated STAT3(pSTAT3)were measured by Western blot. The changes of these indexes were observed with the gradual increase of IFNα?2b levels. Results Serum Hepcidin level in the treatment group was significantly lower than the control(P<0.05). IFNα?2b inhibited the Hepcidin mRNA in HepG2 cells and LO2 cells. pSTAT3 was significantly decreased with the increased levels of IFNα?2b(P<0.05),and the expression of IL?6 and STAT3 had no significant changes with the increase of IFNα?2b. Conclusion The serum Hepcidin levels can be decreased because IFNα?2b suppresses the expression of Hepcidin, and its mechanism may be related with inhibited STAT3 pathway activation.

Objective To investigate the influence of miR-106b on Wnt/β-catenin pathway in HCC cells. Methods QGY-7703 and HepG2 cells were transfected with miRNA mimics or inhibitors. TOP/FOP luciferase ratio assay was used to test the Wnt/β-catenin pathway activity. The expression of downstream targeted genes of Wnt/β-catenin pathway were examined by Real-time PCR. The accumulation of β-catenin in nuclears were measured by Western blotting. Results Ectopic expression of miR-106b dramatically increased the average TOP/FOP ratio and the mRNA expression of downstream targeted genes in QGY-7703 and HepG2 cells. Compared with that in control cells , miR-106b over-expression promoted the nuclear β-catenin accumulation in QGY-7703 cells. Clonclusion MiR-106b activated Wnt/β-catenin pathway in HCC cells.

Objective To assess the effects of limited hepatectomy on liver regeneration and function recovery of cirrhotic animal model. Methods Cirrhotic rat models were first prepared by intraperitoneal injection of CCL4.After that, the cirrhotic animal models underwent 20% hepatectomy (n =30).The cirrhotic animals that underwent sham operation (n =30) and normal animals that underwent 20% hepatectomy (n =30) were used as control groups. From the time when cirrhotic models were prepared to 3 months after 20% hepatectomy, the hepatic function, coagulation function were tested regularly.Western blotting and real-time PCR were carried out to test the protein and gene expression of TGF-β,HGF and PCNA.Results Hepatic fibrosis and cirrhosis were observed during the preparation of cirrhotic rat models by intraperitoneal injection of CCL4.The hepatic function and coagulation function of cirrhotic models were partly recovered 3 month after 20% hepatectomy. The gene and protein expression levels of TGF-β in the liver of animal model get higher during the preparation of cirrhotic rat models. However, the gene and protein expression levels of TGF-β get lower in cirrhotic model undergoing 20% hepatectomy, when compared with that in cirrhotic animals (sham operation) and normal animals (20% hepatectomy).Furthermore, the gene and protein expression levels of HGF and PCNA get higher in cirrhotic model undergoing 20% hepatectomy, when compared with that in cirrhotic animals (sham operation) and normal animals (20% hepatectomy). Conclusions Experimental limited hepatectomy facilitates the liver regeneration and function recovery of cirrhotic animal model, which may provide a novel method for the prevention and treatment of cirrhosis using limited hepatectomy technique.

Isolated perfused rat hearts were subjected to regional ischemia followed by reperfusion and then tested for responsiveness to acetylcholine (Ach) and nitroglycerin (NTG). The effects of L-Arginine (L-Arg) and NG-monomethyl-L-Arg (L-NMMA) on the endothelium-dependent (ED) and independent (EI) vasodilator were also observed. It was found that both 15 and 30min ischemia followed reperfusion resulted in a decrease in ED vasodilation of Ach. ED vasodilation gradually renewed after 90min reperfusion in the 15min ischemic group, not in the 30min ischemic group. No significant decrease in EI vasodilation of NTG in all groups. L-Arg accelerated the renewing of ED vasodilation of Ach in the 15 min ischemia-reperfusion group, not in the 30min ischemia-reperfusion group. L-NMMA was an inverse action. The results indicate that brief ischemia followed by reperfusion can induce coronary endothelium dysfunction which may be related to the decrease of endothelium derived relaxing factor.

Objective:To evaluate any effect of transcranial pulsed current stimulation (tPCS) on the motor functioning of rats modelling stroke using the Catwalk gait analysis system. Methods:A stroke model was induced in 24 rats using middle cerebral artery embolization. They were then randomly divided into a sham operation group, a model group and a tPCS group, each of 8. Neurological deficit scores were assigned 1 day after the modeling. Beginning two days after the modeling the tPCS group was given 20 minutes of tPCS daily with an intensity of 0.2mA at 10Hz for 7 days. Gait data were collected using the Catwalk gait system 1 day before, as well as 1 and 9 days after the modeling. Results:Nine days after the modeling the average Bederson neuroethology score of the tPCS group was significantly lower than one day after the modelling and significantly lower than the model group′s average. One day after the modelling significant differences were observed in the model and tPCS groups in the average contact area of the affected limb′s paw prints, limb swing speed, stride length, limb speed, swing time, average running speed and standing time compared with before the operation. After nine days the average standing time on the affected fore and hind limbs, as well as the paw contact areas were significantly better in the tPCS group than in the model group. Conclusion:tPCS can promote improvements in gait after ischemia and reperfusion, at least in rats.
