The interaction between Gliotoxin and bovine serum albumin (BSA) was studied by the fluo-rescence, Circular Dichroism (CD) and ultraviolet visible (UV-Vis) techniques. The fluorescent experiment showed that the intrinsic fluorescence of BSA was quenched by the binding of gliotoxin in a static quenching procedure, with an association constant of 7.2?103 L/mol and in hydropobic forces. And the CD spectrum revealed that gliotoxin effected the conformation of BSA by increased the mass of ?-helix.

Objective To investigate the clinical usefulness and safety of soluble dietary fiber (SDF) combined with probiotics in treating elderly patients with antibiotic associated diarrhea(AAD).Methods A total of 88 hospitalized elderly patients (≥65 years old) treated with antibiotics during August 2014 to August 2016 were included in this study. Patients were divided into control group(26 cases),probiotics group(30 cases)and combined group(32 cases). The control group was given maltodextrin as placebo intervention, the probiotics group was given the same dose of probiotics only, and the combined group was given SDF and probiotics treatment. The treatment was observed for 14 d. The incidence and the recurrence rate of ADD, the results of fecal culture and the incidence of adverse reactions were monitored in the three groups. Results The incidence of ADD was obviously lower in the combined group and the probiotics group than that of control group(6.25% vs.26.92%,6.67% vs.26.92%,P<0.05).The disease duration of diarrhea was shorter in the combined group than that of probiotic group[(3.53 ± 0.62)d vs.(4.39 ± 1.01)d,P<0.05],but no difference was found when compared with that of control group [(3.55 ± 0.65) d]. After 7-day intervention, Enterococcus counts was significantly deceased in probiotic group(P<0.05).There were no significant changes in Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium counts in probiotic group after 14-day intervention. In the combined group, after 7-day intervention, Enterococcus counts decreased (P<0.05), and then started increasing until the 14-day(P<0.05).Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium counts increased with the time passed (P<0.05).The incidence rates of total adverse reactions were 6.25%,10.00% and 23.07% for combined group, probiotics group and control group, and with no significant differences between them. Conclusion The probiotics combined with SDF has a good clinical effect on preventing the occurrence of antibiotic associated diarrhea and shortening the course of diarrhea in the elderly. It has high safety and it can regulate the intestinal flore with high safety.

OBJECTIVETo explore whether fractional anisotropy (FA) value could be taken as a quantitative indicator for tracing and reexamining amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and to analyze the correlation between FA value and integrative medical treatment.
METHODSTotally 18 ALS patients were recruited in this study. All patients received diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) using 3. OT (Propeller HD) MRI twice. Six regions of interest (ROI) were selected to measure FA values. Survival analyses were performed in 11 cases of end point events.
RESULTS(1) Three ROI (cerebral peduncle, posterior limb of internal capsule, and corona radiata) all indicated that FA value was the highest in patients with mild health status scale of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS/HSS). (2) There was statistical difference in the means of FA values in cerebral peduncle, posterior limb of internal capsule, and corona radiata of 18 cases between initial examination and reexamination (P < 0.01). (3) Kaplan-Meier survival curve showed the survival rate of ALS patients decreased as time went by, with the median survival time of 48 months.
CONCLUSIONSFA value was inversely proportional to the severity of ALS, the more severe, the lower FA values. FA value was an objective indicator for assessing the severity of ALS. ALS is an incurable disease till now. Integrative medical treatment might become one direction for ALS patients.

Aim To evaluate the effects of salvianolic acid B ( Sal B ) on bone metabolism and its potential mechanism in high fat diet ( HFD) mice. Methods Thirty C57BL/6J male mice were divided into three groups with 10 mice each, namely normal , HFD and HFD+Sal B.HFD and HFD+Sal B mice were treated with HFD, and HFD+Sal B group mice were also with Sal B (125 mg· kg -1· d-1).After 12 weeks' treat-ment, femurs were harvested .The effects of Sal B on biomechanical strength were evaluated by biomechani-cal tests, and the effects of Sal B on bone microstruc-ture were evaluated by Safranin O/fast green staining and hematoxylin and eosin staining .The expression of nuclear factor-kappa B ( NF-κB)-p65 and NADPH ox-idase 4 ( Nox4 ) and cathepsin K in femurs was deter-mined by immunohistochemical staining . Results Maximum load and elastic load significantly decreased ,and the trabeculae became thinner and irregular in the femurs of HFD mice , while Sal B treatment could re-verse the descending biomechanical strength and the disorganized femurs bone micro-structures in HFD mice.In addition, the expressions of Nox4, NF-κB-p65 and cathepsin Kmarkedly increased in HFD mice , and Sal B possessed the ability to down-regulate the ex-pression of Nox4, NF-κB-p65, and cathepsin K in the femurs triggered by HFD .Conclusions Sal B treat-ment improves bone metabolism via regulating Nox 4/NF-κB/cathepsin K signaling pathway in HFD mice . The findings contribute to the understanding and exten-sion of the applications of Salvia miltiorrhiza and its constituents on osteoporosis .

OBJECTIVETo review the long-term clinical effect of composite transplantation of allogeneic acellular dermal matrix (ADM) and split thickness skin autograft (STSG).
METHODSNineteen patients with 34 wounds transplanted with allogeneic ADM combined with STSG who were hospitalized from March 2001 to October 2008 were enrolled as composite transplantation group (CT). Another 9 patients with 11 wounds transplanted with STSG admitted within the same time frame were enrolled as control group (C). All patients were followed up for longer than 2 years. Color, evenness, texture, contracture, sensation, and complications of transplanted skin were assessed using a modified Manchester Scar Scale (1-4 scores, the higher the score, the poorer the situation). The scar formation on skin donor sites was assessed by the Vancouver Scar Scale. Patients' degree of satisfaction and health status during the transplantation period were investigated in the form of questionnaire. The skin tissue structure of 4 patients was observed with histological method. The joint range of motion was assessed by the neutral position before and after operation and at follow-up. Data were processed with nonparametric test, chi-square test or t test.
RESULTS(1) The evenness, contracture, and texture of transplanted skin in CT group scored (1.6 ± 0.5), (1.8 ± 0.8), and (1.5 ± 0.8), respectively, which were significantly lower than those in C group [(2.0 ± 0.7), (2.2 ± 0.9), and (2.3 ± 0.7), with Z value respectively -2.058, -2.220, -2.323, P values all below 0.05]. Scores of color, sensation, and complications of transplanted skin in two groups were close to each other (with Z value respectively -0.628, -0.428, -2.520, P values all above 0.05). (2) Mild scar formation was observed in one of the skin donor sites in CT group. (3) Information as obtained from questionnaire showed no statistical difference between two groups in pinching, itching, and satisfaction degree (with χ(2) value respectively 0.187, 0.019, 2.628, P values all above 0.05). (4) Nerve fibers were seen in hand tissue 2 years after operation. ADM did not induce severe inflammatory responses in the site of grafting. (5) Eleven joints in CT group recovered or improved in function; while the other two joints required secondary surgery. Obvious contracture was observed in the two joints in C group.
CONCLUSIONSAllogeneic ADM combined with STSG transplantation prevents scar contracture and has obvious effect in improving function and appearance. There is no problem in regard to safety for its existence in either adult or children.

Journal of Southern Medical University 2010;30(4):763-766
OBJECTIVETo evaluate the effect of different preparation methods on the encapsulation efficiency (EE) and drug loading (DL) of paclitaxel-loaded polybutylcyanoacrylate nanoparticles (PTX-PBCA-NPs) and optimize the preparation of PTX-PBCA-NPs.
METHODSWith DL and EE as the major indexes, the qualities of PTX-PBCA-NPs produced by the interfacial polymerization and emulsion polymerization method were compared. The optimized prescription was obtained by orthogonal design.
RESULTSThe ranges of EE of PTX-PBCA-NPs with the two methods were both 94.39%-99.23%. The highest DL with interfacial polymerization was (1.07-/+0.03)%, as compared to (0.86-/+0.01)% with emulsion polymerization. The optimized preparation conditions resulted in the mean size of PTX-PBCA-NPs of 235.6 nm, DL of 0.80%, and EE of 95.71%.
CONCLUSIONThe EE of PTX-PBCA-NPs prepared by the above two methods is consistent with the requirement of the Pharmacopoeia of China, and PTX-PBCA-NPs containing higher DL can be obtained via interfacial polymerization.

Objective To analyze the incidence and death of malignant tumors in Haishu District during 2011 to 2016, and to provide reference for the formulation and adjustment of prevention and control strategies and measures. Methods From the chronic disease monitoring system of Zhejiang Province, the data of the death report of residents in Haishu district and the monitoring report of chronic disease were obtained for 2011 to 2016 years. The mortality of malignant tumor, incidence of malignant tumor, and survival rate of malignant tumor in residents were statistically analyzed. Results The mortality of malignant tumor in Haishu district from 2011 to 2016 was 182.00/100, 000 to 215.43/100, 000, however the malignant tumor mortality rate of males were significantly higher than females (P<0.01) . Malignant tumor was the first death cause of residents in Haishu district, and the death rate of malignant tumor accounted for over 30% of all deaths. The average life expectancy loss of residents was 4.36 years due to cancer. The incidence of malignant tumor increased with age (P<0.01), and males were significantly higher than females in 2011 and 2012 (P<0.05), however there was no significantly difference between male and female after 2012 (P>0.05) . The top five deaths of malignant tumors were lung cancer, gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, liver cancer and pancreatic cancer, and the incidence of these five malignant tumors from high to low was lung cancer, colorectal cancer, gastric cancer, liver cancer and pancreatic cancer. The five year survival rate from high to low was colorectal cancer, gastric cancer, lung cancer, liver cancer and pancreatic cancer, respectively. Conclusion Malignant tumor has become the main cause of threat to the life and health of residents in Haishu district. It is suggested to strengthen the screening of early diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
