Objective To study the present situation of legionella pneumophila(Lp) infection of low respiratory tract infection in children less than 5 years old.Methods Three hundred hospitalized patients with the diagnosis of low respiratory tract infection were enrolled in the study,191 males,109 females,aged 27 d to 5 years old,course from 1 d to 6 months.Serum antibody(IgM,IgG) of Lp serogroup 1-7 was detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).Results In the patients,17 cases were positive,and the positive rate was 5.67%.Of the 17 children,the males(n=11) and females(n=6) did not significantly influence the positive rate(5.76% vs 5.50%).Four of them were between 27 days and 1 year old;7 were 1 to 3 years old,6 were 3 to 5 years old.The positive rates were significantly different among the 3 groups(2.53% vs 7.37% vs 12.77%) and tendentially increased following the increase of age(?2=7.8164 P

Objective To investigate the prognostic value of AKT3 expression in gastric cancer. Methods AKT3 expression data in The Cancer Genome Atlas(TCGA)datasets and its clinical information were downloaded. Statistically assessed was performed for relationship with clinicopatho?logical factors and prognosis. Gene set enrichment analysis(GSEA)was used to predict the gene sets modulated by AKT3. Results The expres?sion of AKT3 was associated with T stage(P=0.001),TNM stage(P=0.049)and differentiation(P<0.001).High level of AKT3 expression indi?cates poor prognosis(P=0.001). AKT3 could regulate gene sets involving cell adhesion molecule,cytoskeleton regulation,focal adhesion and TGF?βsignaling pathway. Conclusion AKT3 could be used as a potential prognostic marker and a therapeutic target in gastric cancer.

In the current study, a total of nineteen triterpenoids (1-19) from 60% EtOH extracts of Stauntonia obovatifoliola Hayata subsp. intermedia stems were separated and purified by solvent extraction and chromatographic methods including silica gel, ODS as well as preparative HPLC. In the past few decades, our understanding of platelets has made great progress. Platelets play an unexpected central role in cancer and greatly affect the behavior of cancer cells. At the same time, the physiology and phenotype of platelets are also affected by cancer cells. Therefore, platelet-based tumor targeted therapy strategies have attracted the attention of researchers, but the limitations of their application require more attention. In this paper, the strategies of platelet-based tumor targeted therapy are summarized, and the strategies of platelet mimicking nanocarrier delivery, platelet hitch riding, platelet membrane coating biomimetic and engineered platelet targeting are mainly introduced. The easy activation, hard storage and unknown functional and phenotypic changes of platelets were discussed. At the same time, the strategy of platelet-based targeted tumor therapy is reviewed from theoretical basis and practical application. The development potential of platelets in the field of tumor diagnosis and treatment is discussed, which will provide some theoretical reference for the study of platelet-related tumor diagnosis and targeted therapy.

Toxicological pathology is a morphological elucidatet ion of tissue damage caused by drug toxicity,including damage type,location,severity grade and prognosis.It provides objective and accurate data to support preclinical drug safety evaluation.Therefore,toxicological pathology plays an important role in drug safety evaluation,and the pathologic data or conclusion often determines the termination or continuation in many drug development projects.In this paper,the characteristic of toxicological pathology,standardized management,the development of new techniques including in situ hybridization,laser scanning cytometry and laser capture microdissection,and related problems in pathology are discussed briefly.

The effects of Zn2 + on GABAA-receptor mediated responses in acutely isolated rat sacral dorsal commissural nucleus (SDCN) were studied using nystatin-perforated whole cell recording techniques.The results demonstrated that ( 1 ) GABA induced inward currents through activation of GABAA-receptor at a holding potential of -40 mV; (2) GABAA-receptor mediated responses were suppressed by Zn2 + in a reversible and voltage-independent manner; and (3) in the presence of Zn2 + , the concentration-response curve of GABA-induced responses was shifted to the right in a parallel manner. The results suggest that Zn2 +allosterically depresses GABAA-receptor mediated currents.

OBJECTIVESTo investigate the carious dissolution mechanism of enamel apatite nano-crystals at lattice fringe level and the possible correlation between the carious dissolution and the appearance of central dark line (CDL) in enamel crystals.

METHODSThe body of the lesion in incipient enamel caries was observed by high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM, JOEL-2010 operating at 200 kv), combined with selected-area argon-ion-beam thinning technique.

RESULTSIn the body of the lesion, the preferential core dissolution was found in most of enamel nano-crystals, whereas the peripheral dissolution of individual crystal could be occasionally observed. The initial carious dissolution of individual enamel apatite crystal occurred as a number of small electron-lucent spots along the central dark line with blurry, bent or disconnected lattice fringes. These small electron-lucent spots fused with each other to form large electron-lucent areas. Finally the central perforation was frequently seen in the crystals. The CDL always appeared in the same place with central perforation in carious crystals, which could be seen to extend along the CDL.

CONCLUSIONSThe initial carious dissolution is directly related to the lattice defects in the enamel nano-crystals. The preferential core dissolution can be partly ascribed to the CDL, which is presumed to be particularly susceptible area to caries.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the value of the invasive front grading (IFG), the proliferative activity of cells at the invasive tumor front (ITF) of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of tongue.

METHODSAll the tumors were graded using IFG grading. The expression of PCNA, Ki67 and staining and measurement of AgNOR number were evaluated at the ITF and the other parts of the same tumor.

RESULTSThe expression of PCNA (P < 0.001), Ki67 (P < 0.001), AgNOR number (P < 0.001) at the ITF were higher than those of other parts. The IFG score was significantly correlated with the expression of PCNA (P < 0.05), AgNOR number (P < 0.01) at the ITF. The complete IFG score (P < 0.01) was significant in both univariate and multivariate cox analysis; the AgNOR number at the ITF (P < 0.05) was only significant in univariate analysis (P < 0.05).

CONCLUSIONSThe ITF of SCCs of tongue differentiate poorer than the other parts and is active in proliferation. The complete IFG score and the AgNOR number at the ITF could be a valuable indication to predict the prognosis of SCCs of tongue.

OBJECTIVESTo analyze the reliability and clinical value of intraoperative ultrasound combined with neuronavigation for resection of intracranial cavernous malformations.

METHODSFrom January 2007 to December 2009, 40 cases of intracranial cavernous malformations were operated under the application of intraoperative ultrasound combined with neuronavigation. There were 18 male and 22 female, aged 18 to 58 years, with a mean age of 34.5 years. Neuronavigation was used for all patients before operation to display the three-dimensional model of nervous system and lesions, so to design the operative approach and determine the scope of the incision. Lesions were allocated by real-time neuronavigation in order to continuously verify the accuracy of operative approach during the operation, supplemented by real-time monitoring of intraoperative ultrasound to guide the process of surgery and determine the extent of resection of lesions.

RESULTSThe registration error of neuronavigation was 1.3 - 3.2 mm, with an average of 2.0 mm. All the patients' three-dimensional model of nervous system and lesions were satisfactorily displayed, and the area of lesions were all accurately located. Structural brain-shifts occurred in 4 cases in the remove process of the lesion, with shift degree 5.0 - 10.0 mm, and were corrected by intraoperative ultrasound. All lesions were well displayed by intraoperative ultrasound. Gross total resection was achieved in all patients, with no patient infected or dead. Neurological deterioration was seen in 2 patients, the morbidity was 5.0%.

CONCLUSIONSThe combination of neuronavigation and intraoperative ultrasound for resection of intracranial cavernous malformations can provide valuable intraoperative informations of the location and resection level of the lesion, thereby maximize the accuracy of lesion localization and the extent of resection, with less complications and enhanced efficacy of the surgery.

OBJECTIVETo investigate clinicopathological and immunohistochemical features of 31 cases of oral teratoid cyst.

METHODSThirty-one cases of oral teratoid cyst according with Meyer's diagnosis criteria were retrospectively studied and their histochemistry and immunohistochemistry were performed from the files of Department of Pathology, School of Stomatology, Wuhan University between 1963 and 2003.

RESULTSTwenty-seven cases (87.10%) were children, and twenty-four cases were congenital. The ratio of male-to-female was 1:0.55, and the affected sites were floor of mouth (22 cases) and tongue (8 cases). Clinical findings were nonspecific, and prognosis was good following complete excision. Histology indicated that squamous, respiratory and/or gastrointestinal epithelium consistiuted basic structure of teratoid cyst in addition to simple cuboidal epithelium in 8 cases. Antibody against AE1/AE3 was strongly expressed and CK16 was weak in four types of epithelial lining of oral teratoid cyst. Expression of AE1, CK7, 8/18, 19 varied in superficial, suprabasal and basal cells of squamous epithelium but were strong in respiratory, gastrointestinal and simple columnar epithelium; only gastrointestinal epithelium expressed CK20 heterogeneously.

CONCLUSIONSOral teratoid cyst showed the highest incidence in children, and floor of mouth and tongue were mostly affected sites. Features of histology were complex, and immunohistochemistry indicated that epithelium of oral teratoid cyst shared similar patterns of cytokeratin with counterpart of normal tissues, showing different origin and differentiation of epithelial lining of the present cyst.
