2.Patents analysis-based scientific innovation ability in colleges and universities of traditional Chinese medicine

Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medi-cine, Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine served as the study object in this study.Their published patent data were recorded and analyzed in terms of the number and types of patent applications, the number of validated patents, and the distribution of patent technologies using the patent information service platform on China Intellectual Property Right Net in order to understand their scientific research level, innovative ability, and scientific research trends.Certain suggestions were put forward for the solu-tion of existing problems and for working out strategies for the protection of intellectual property right.
4.Study on effect of jiangya tongmai recipe on vascular activating substances in patients of hypertension with left ventricular hypertrophy.

OBJECTIVETo study the effect of Jiangya Tongmai Recipe (JYTMR), a Chinese herbal medicine preparation for activating blood circulation to remove stasis, on vascular activating substances in treating patients of hypertension with left ventricular hypertrophy.
METHODSThe 37 patients with hypertension were randomly divided into two groups, the treated group (n = 21) and the control group (n = 16). They were treated with JYTMR and captopril respectively for 8 weeks. Left ventricular mass weight (LVMI), peak flow velocity of early diastole (Emax), peak flow velocity of atrial contraction (Amax), Emax/Amax, ejection fraction (EF), as well as levels of plasma endothelin (ET), calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) and angiotensin II (Ang II) were measured before and after treatment and compared.
RESULTSJYTMR could enhance the left ventricular dilation and contractile functions, lower the levels of plasma ET and Ang II and increase the level of plasma CGRP.
CONCLUSIONJYTMR shows good effect in improving left ventricular function and regulating vascular activating substances, it could prevent and treat hypertension and its complications for prolonged treatment via multiple paths and links.

5.Preparation of Bone Marrow Dendritic Cells with TNF-? and The Immune Response Against Malignant Pancreatic Cell by Dendritic Cell Vaccine

Objective To study the method of obtaining a large number of dendritic cells (DC). To study the specific cytotoxicity T lymphocyte (CTL) effect against tumor cells initiated by DC pulsed with peptide of cancer cell. Methods Development of cells with cytologic features of DC in bone marrow cultures supplemented with granulocyte macrophage-colony stimulus factor (GM-CSF) and IL-4. Determining the DC phenotype and the specific structure by electronic microscopy. The CTL effect against pancreatic carcinoma leading by the DC pulsed with tumor cells lysate in vitro was observed. Results A large number of typical DC was proliferated by supplementing with GM-CSF and IL-4 cytokines. DC had specific cell appearance and structure, and highly expressed various cell surface molecules. 7.Extracorporeal shock wave therapy for treating disorders of the temopromandibular joint

Objective To study the therapeutic effects of extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) on temporomandibular joint disorders (TMDs).Methods Sixty patients with a temporomandibular joint disorder were randomly divided into an ESWT group and a control group,each of 30.Both groups were given routine rehabilitation training,but the treatment group additionally received ESWT for 2 weeks.Fricton's index was used to evaluate temporomandibular joint function.The subjects used a visual analogue scale (VAS) to evaluate their pain levels.The SF-36 scale was applied to assess their life quality.Results After two weeks of treatment,the average assessment score and VAS score had decreased significantly in both groups.After treatment the average scores for mandibular movement,muscle palpation,joint noise and joint palpation,and the palpation,dysfunction and craniomandibular indexes were all significantly lower in the ESWT group than in the control group.Significant differences were also found in the average VAS scores and on the social functioning domain of the SF-36 between the ESWT group and the control group.Conclusion ESWT combined with rehabilitation training can significantly relieve the symptoms and pain of TMDs.
8.Effects of Motor Imaginary Therapy Combined with Occupational Therapy on Function of Upper Limbs and Hands for Stroke Patients with Hemiplegia

Objective To explore the effects of motor imaginary therapy combined with occupational therapy on the function of upperlimbs hands and activities of daily living for stroke patients with hemiplegia. Methods 62 stroke patients with hemiplegia were divided intoobservation group (n=31) and control group (n=31). Both groups were treated with basic medication and occupational therapy while the observationgroup was treated additionally with motor imaginary therapy. The function of upper limbs and hands was assessed by Fugl-MeyerAssessment (FMA), and activities of daily living was assessed by Functional Independence Measurement (FIM) before and 2 months aftertreatment. Results There were significant difference between the two groups in the scores of FMA in the function of upper limbs and hands,and FIM 2 months after the treatment (P<0.01). Conclusion Motor imaginary therapy combined with occupational therapy can effectivelyimprove the functional outcomes of upper limbs and hands for stroke patients with hemiplegic, and can even effectively improve the functionalactivities of daily living.
9.Two kinds of synthesized bone morphogenetic protein active polypeptides: evaluation of osteoinductive activity

BACKGROUND:According to the core functional zone of amino acid sequence of the osteoinduction in bone morphogenetic proteins, our research group synthesized bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) active polypeptides Ⅰ and Ⅱ by artificial solid-state synthesis method. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the osteoinductive ability of BMP active polypeptides Ⅰ and Ⅱ in animals. METHODS:Forty-two Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into seven groups, and respectively implanted with hydroxyapatite/polylactic acid carrying 0.2, 0.4, 0.8 g/L BMP active polypeptides I, hydroxyapatite/polylactic acid carrying 0.2, 0.4, 0.8 g/L BMP active polypeptides Ⅱ, and hydroxyapatite/polylactic acid alone. At 3 and 5 weeks postoperatively, X-ray, CT and histological detection were conducted to evaluate osteoinductive conditions in the seven groups. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:At 3 and 5 weeks postoperatively, there were better local osteoinductive effects in the groups hydroxyapatite/polylactic acid carrying BMP active polypeptides Ⅰ and Ⅱ than the group of hydroxyapatite/polylactic acid, indicating both two kinds of BMP active polypeptides possessed a certain osteoinductive ability. Moreover, this osteoinductive ability became stronger with time. At 5 weeks postoperatively, the osteoinductive effect in the 0.4 and 0.8 g/L BMP active polypeptides I groups was better than that in the 0.2 g/L BMP active polypeptides I group and the 0.2, 0.4 and 0.8 BMP active polypeptides Ⅱ groups (P < 0.05). In addition, there was no difference in the osteoinductive effect of 0.4 and 0.8 g/L BMP active polypeptides I groups. These results indicate that BMP active polypeptides I has a stronger osteoinductive ability than BMP active polypeptides Ⅱ.
10.Changes of Cardiotrophin-1 and Brain Natriuretic Peptide after Off-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass

Objective: To investigate the changes of peripheral cardiotrophin-1 (CT-1) and brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) concentrations in patients undergoing off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting (OPCABC), and the clinical significance of peripheral CT-1 and BNP in cardiac surgery thereof. Methods:Fifty elective OPCABG patients were included in the study. The concentrations of CT-l and BNP were measured before surgery, and at 6 hours, 72 hours, 1 week and 10 months after the operation respectively. The clinical data of the heart function were also collected in patients . Results:(1 )The peripheral CT-1 levels were significantly higher at 10 months after OPCABC than those before operation. (2 )The concentration of peripheral BNP increased at 6 hours after operation. The peak level was found at 72 hours, and remained higher level until the 1 week after operation. The BNP concentration was returned to the normal level at 10 months after OPCABG. (3 )The baseline levels of CT-1 and BNP were both positively correlated with NYHA rank and the diameter of the left ventricular end-diastolic dimension (LVEED), but negatively correlated with left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). However, no correlations were found between CT-1 and BNP and NYHA rank, LVEF or LVEED at 10 months after OPCAB. Conclusion:The perioperative blood BNP levels were increased significantly by OPCABG, while perioperative level of CT-1 increased slowly compared with that of BNP. In cardiac surgery,perioperative concentrations of CT-1 and BNP may reflect the cardiac function in patients before OPCABG. The further studies are warranted to assess the prognosis.
