Chinese Journal of Laboratory Medicine 2003;0(09):-
Since haemoplasmodium is not detected for screening in blood donor, morbidity of transfusion-associated malaria increased rapidly in China recently and became an important problem of public health. It is necessary to emphasize donor screening for malaria.Hematology analyzer with MAPSS is recommended to screen malaria.Flow cytometry and immunochromatography test(ICT)can also screen malaria effectively. For the suspicious samples with haemoplasmodium,it is necessary to be reexamined by standard microscopic examination or polymerase chain reaction(PCR).

Objective To study the time the liver injuries appeared, the different level of liver injury induced by injecting Cisplatin and Carboplatin in mice and the possible mechanisms of the liver injury. Methods Mice were intravenously given,Cisplatin(17 mg/kg),Carboplatin(67 mg/kg) respectively. In the 3th,7th,11 th and 14th day after injecting the medicines, the serum biochemistry parameters, oxidation and antioxidation parameters of liver and histopathologic change in hepatic tissue were observed. Results HE stain showed that fatty degeneration of hepatocyte in the two experiment groups in the 3th day after injecting medicines, and hepatocellular spotty necrosis, and infiltration of inflammatory cells arroud the necrotic liver were found in,Cisplatin group. The level of aspartate aminotransferase and alkaline phosphatase in the two experiment groups increased significantly compared with those in the control (group P<0.01),and alanine aminotransferase in Cisplatin group increased significantly(P<0.01),compared with that in the control group and Carboplatin group. Conclusion Hepatic injury was observed in the 3th day after injecting medicines, the level of liver injury in Cisplatin group was heavier than that in Carboplatin group.

Objective:To assess the surgical outcome of patients with mesenchymal chondrosarcoma (MCS) treated in our insti-tute. This study was also designed to describe the clinical characteristics, treatment, and outcome of MCS to provide a better understand-ing of its clinical management. Methods:A total of 27 patients with MCS were treated in Peking University People's Hospital, Beijing, China from October 1997 to March 2011. Demographic information and follow-up data were obtained and statistically analyzed. Re-sults:Among the 27 patients, 9 were males and 18 were females with a mean age of 30.4 years (ranging from 14 years to 51 years). The median follow-up time was 42.6 months (ranging from 6 months to 104 months). Among the total number of tumor cases, 22 and 5 were detected in bone tissues and extra-skeletal sites, respectively. A total of 25 patients underwent surgery, but only 17 achieved the standard surgical margin of wide excision. Among these patients, 16 and 13 were subjected to chemotherapy and irradiation. The three-and five-year survival rates were 65%and 49.5%, respectively. Conclusion:MCS is a rare tumor resulting in morbidity with local recur-rences and long-term metastases. In this study, standard multimodal regimens were proposed to treat MCS. The results recommended wide resection with suitable surgical margins as the preferred treatment. However, further studies should be conducted because the infor-mation about the benefits of chemotherapy and radiotherapy for the control of local or systemic symptoms of MCS remains insufficient.

Whether or not an abormal expression of IL-6 mRNA in PBMNCs from IDDM patientswas examined using a hihgly sensitive, specific and semiquantitative protocal,i.e.reverse tran-scription and polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR).The relative levels of IL-6mRNA in PBM-NCs from 12 early IDDMpatients (8.20?3.85yr),29 newly diagnosed NIDDM patients(54.85?9.12yr)23 normal childrens (8.20?3.26yr) and 12 normal adults (31.92?11.22yr)weredetermined.Significantly high expresion levels of IL-6 mRNA were found in PBMNCs from pa-tients with IDDM (P

The zinc-regulated transporters (ZRT), iron-regulated transporter (IRT)-like protein (ZIP) plays an important role in the growth and development of plant. In this study, a full length cDNA of ZIP encoding gene, designed as DoZIP1 (GenBank accession KJ946203), was identified from Dendrobium officinale using RT-PCR and RACE. Bioinformatics analysis showed that DoZIP1 consisted of a 1,056 bp open reading frame (ORF) encoded a 351-aa protein with a molecular weight of 37.57 kDa and an isoelectric point (pI) of 6.09. The deduced DoZIP1 protein contained the conserved ZIP domain, and its secondary structure was composed of 50.71% alpha helix, 11.11% extended strand, 36.18% random coil, and beta turn 1.99%. DoZIP1 protein exhibited a signal peptide and eight transmembrane domains, presumably locating in cell membrane. The amino acid sequence had high homology with ZIP proteins from Arabidopsis, alfalfa and rice. A phylogenetic tree analysis demonstrated that DoZIP1 was closely related to AtZIP10 and OsZIP3, and they were clustered into one clade. Real time quantitative PCR analysis demonstrated that the transcription level of DoZIP1 in D. officinale roots was the highest (4.19 fold higher than that of stems), followed by that of leaves (1.12 fold). Molecular characters of DoZIP1 will be useful for further functional determination of the gene involving in the growth and development of D. officinale.

Microbiology 1992;0(02):-
Organophosphate chemicals are widely used as agricultural pesticides and war reagents, their biodegradation is emphasized on the theoretical and practical aspects. Organophosphate hydrolases play important roles in the biodegradation of organophosphate chemicals. Great advancement was achieved recently in the determination of crystal structure and catalytic mechanisms of the hydrolase. This paper reviewed the research progresses in the enzymology, protein structure, catalytic mechanisms and application of the organophosphate hydrolase, and predicted the future research in this field.

Objective: To study the effects of the melt casting and the sintering methods on the machinability and other characteristics of K_2O-MgO-MgF_2-SiO_2 glass-ceramics. Methods: X-ray diffraction(XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM)were used to examine the main crystal and the microstructure of the glass ceramics of the same composition which were made by melt casting and sintering methods, respectively. The transmissivity, flexural strength and brittleness index were observed respectively. Results: The glass ceramics made by two different methods have the same crystal, KMg_(2.5)Si_4O_(10)F_2, while the specimen prepared by the sintering method had lower transmissivity, better machinability and mechanical properties due to the higher mica volume percent. Conclusion; For production of fluoro-mica glass ceramics, sintering method has superiority compared to melt-casting method.
