1.Analysis of preventive measures on controlling of schistosomiasis spreading in Jurong city Jiangsu province

ObjectiveTo investigate the effect of measures on controlling of schistosomiasis in Jurong city Jiangsu province and provide a scientific basis for doing a better job in prevention and control of schistosomiasis.MethodsMonitoring data from 2005 to 2010 was analyzed,including the effect of spraying drugs,changing environment,coupled with health education measures in eradicating oncomelania.Oncomelania areas,positive detection rate of schistosomiasis,and the awareness rates of prevention knowledge of schistosome were observed longitudinally.Correlation of coverage rate of snail controlling and resident positive rate of schistosomiasis was studied.ResultsThere were no infected snails from 2005 to 2010.The densities of living snails and areas with snails decreased year by year.Residents' positive detection rate of schistosomiasis decreased from 0.34%(36/10 551 ) to 0.00%(0/12 372) from 2005 to 2010.The rates of students,and citizens' knowledge of schistosome on prevention of the disease increased from 88.28%(128/145) and 86.44%(204/236) to 96.58%(141/146) and 92.83%(246/265) from 2005 to 2010,respectively.There was a negative correlation between oncomelania areas and drug coverage areas(r =- 0.910,P < 0.05 ); there was no correlation between oncomelania areas and coverage rate of snail control by environmental modification (r =- 0.404,P > 0.05 ); there was no correlation between positive rate of schistosomiasis in resident and coverage rate of snail control with molluscisides,and coverage rate of snail control by environmental modification (r =0.107,- 0.496,all P > 0.05).ConclusionsSnails areas in Jurong city is decreased year by year.Residents' positive detection rate of schistosomiasis infection is maintained at a low level.The effects of oncomelania-controlling,health education,and chemotherapy are remarkable.
2.Clinical Characteristics of Alien Hand Syndrome:Eight Cases Report

Objective To report the clinical characteristics of alien hand syndrome(AHS). Methods Eight AHS inpatients from July,2015 to July,2017 were reviewed from the etiology,clinical manifestations, imaging characteristics and outcome. Results The etiology of the patients was cerebrovascular disease. The clinical features included alien hand (8 cases), movement disorder(8 cases),cognitive disorder(5 cases),speech disorder(4 cases)and affective disorder(3 cas-es).Imaging indicated the lesions involved callosum(8 cases),frontal lobe(2 cases),parietal lobe(3 cases),tem-poral lobe(2 cases)and basal ganglial region(1 case).There were four cases healing,two improving,two of re-mission after medicine and rehabilitation. Conclusion ASH is mainly resulted from cerebrovascular disease, in which callosum and frontal lobe are mostly in-volved,features in different forms,and prognoses well.
3.Effect of Reproducibility of Nano-liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry on Analysis of Urinary Peptidomics

As an extension of proteomics, peptidomics has been widely used in medical and biological researches. However, the effect of reproducibility of identification method on peptidomics is not yet clear. In this work, the urine sample of a healthy people was analyzed for seven times in parallel by nano-liquid chromatography-high-resolution tandem mass spectrometry. To illustrate the variability and stability among these experiments, the number of spectra, the utilization of total spectra, the number of identified peptides, the number of proteins, and the ionic strength and retention time of peptides were counted and compared. The average number of peptides was 208 and the standard deviation was 38. 7. After all of data were combined, 426 peptides belonging to 114 proteins were obtained, while only 109 peptides coming from 35 proteins were identified in each experiment, indicating that there were both an randomness and a relative stability for LC-MS analysis. Increasing the number of parallel experiments would expand the data set of peptidomics, but the rate of increase would decrease over 3 or more measurements. Compared with peptides, the results of peptidomics were more stable at protein level, indicating that proteins were more robustly peptidomics biomarker than the peptides.
4.Prevalence of chronic headache in Shanghai children and adolescents: a questionnaire-based study.

OBJECTIVETo explore the prevalence and characteristics of chronic headache in children and adolescents in Shanghai and to collect messages concerning the impact and compliance of medication for migraine.
METHODSA population-based questionnaire study was conducted among subjects 6 - 15 years of age sampled from primary and junior high schools in Shanghai and the subjects were followed up.
RESULTS(1) The prevalence: 8701 (88.6%) out of 9857 pupils responded to the questionnaire; 17% of the respondents had headache and in 86.4% of them the reason of headache was unknown. The prevalence of chronic headache in Shanghai children and adolescents was 7.8%, there was no significant difference between both genders (chi(2) = 0.010, P > 0.05). (2) The prevalence of chronic headache increased with age, the incidence was higher in boys before 12 years of age, while higher in girls after 12 years of age. (3) Characteristics of chronic headache: the proportion of unilateral, bilateral and headache of unknown site was similar; in most of the cases headache was localized in the temple (35.2%) and forehead region (25.6%), the duration of headache was short, always accompanied by gastrointestinal symptoms. Half of the patients reported that the headache had affected their study and daily life. (4) The status of using health care facilities: 24% of the students sought medical assistance during their headache episodes and among them only 30.9% took medicine. (5) Over-fatigue (51.4%), followed by insufficient sleep (40.4%), emotional changes (38.5%) were the main aggravating factors. The headache was also associated with positive family history and stress in studying.
CONCLUSIONSHeadache is a common complaints of children, affecting the patients' study and daily life. But many patients with headache were not treated properly, therefore, the medical and educational sectors and the society should pay more attention to this problem.

5.Effects of androgen on microstructure and mechanics nature of bone in orchiechtomied male rats.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of androgen on microstructure and mechanics nature of bone in orchiechtomied (ORX) male rats and reveal its mechanism by using the Micro CT analysis, bone biomechanics test, bone histomorphometric parameter test, and total body bone mineral density (BMD) measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiomery (DXA).
METHODSThirty 12-month-old male Wister rats were randomly divided into three groups including ORX, sham-operated (Sham) and androgen (AD) group, ten rats in every group. Total body BMD was measured by DXA. Femurs and vertebrae were then harvested at the 12 th week after ORX for micro-computed tomography (Micro CT), histology and biomechanical were tested.
RESULTSThe administration of testosterone may reverse the decreasing BMD of total body and may prevent the decreasing weight. The biomechanical values of Maximum load, Enery, Maximum stress, Elastic Modulus of AD group significantly enhanced compared with ORX group (P < 0.05). The results of histomorphometric parameters showed that cancellous bone volume, osteoblast-osteoid interface, linear extent of bone formation, mineralizing surfaces, mineral apposition rate increased in the therapy group.
CONCLUSIONAndrogen can accelerate cancellous bone formation and bone turnover, improve bone microstructure and enhance bone intensity and BMD.

6.Microsurgical and neuro endoscopic anatomy for frontolateral keyhole approach

Objective To explore and compare the relevant regional anatomies as they relate the fron- tolateral keyhole approach under microscopy and neuroendoscopy for operations in anterior cranial base and sellar region.Methods Fifteen silieone-injected cadaveric heads were dissected to reveal and compare the extent of expesure through the transfrontolateral keyhole approach under neuroendoscopy and microscopy. Results Portions in the areas of olfactory groove,sellar region and sylvian tissure were blind under micro- scope.Endoscope could allow observation of areas considered blind under the microscope.It could increase light intensity during the approach to objects,extend viewing angles,clear depiction of details in close-up po- sitions and inspect hidden structures.But images of endoscope were two dimensional,lack of view depth.Mi- croscopy and neuroendoscopy could help each other to recuperate deficiency.Conclusion Endoscope-assis- ted neuromicrosurgery is helpful,safe and minimally invasive to treat deepseated lesions in anterior cranial base,sellar region by transfrontolateral keyhole approach.

8.Predictive role of cerebrospinal fluid hydrogen sulfide in central nervous system leukemia.

BACKGROUNDCentral nervous system leukemia (CNSL) is an important relapse in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). We investigated the possible role of endogenous hydrogen sulfide (H(2)S) of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in predicting CNSL.
METHODSFrom August 2008 to December 2010, 380 children were enrolled in this study at Shijitan Hospital, China. These children were from 2 to 16 years old, and the median age was 6.5 years. They were divided into a CNSL group (7 cases), a leukemia group (307 cases), a non-leukemia group (26 cases) and a healthy group (40 children). CSF specimens were obtained from conventional lumbar punctured, then centrifuged and supernatants preserved for H(2)S detection. Leukemic cells precipitates from CSF were found in three cases, the hCSE and hCBS mRNA expression was detected by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), and H(2)S levels in serum were also measured. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and area under curve (AUC) were used to assess the predictive diagnosis role of CSF H(2)S in children with ALL and CNSL.
RESULTSThe serum H(2)S contents of the CNSL and leukemia groups were (96.98 ± 15.77) µmol/L and (93.35 ± 17.16) µmol/L respectively, much higher than those of healthy, (44.29 ± 2.15) µmol/L, and non-leukemia, (46.32 ± 6.54) µmol/L, groups (P < 0.01). Compared with the leukemia group, CSF H(2)S content of the CNSL group was significantly high (P < 0.01). Meanwhile, in contrast to the non-leukemia group, CSF H(2)S contents of the CNSL and leukemia groups were both significantly increased (P < 0.01). In addition, leukemic cells from CSF precipitations could express CBS and CSE mRNA. Furthermore, the ROC analysis showed the UAC was 0.929 (95%CI: 0.857 - 1.000), and the optimum cut-off value of CSF H(2)S was 12.08 µ mol/L, and the sensitivity and specificity were 83.3% and 97.2% respectively.
CONCLUSIONSCSF H(2)S contents were significantly increased in children with CNSL. After treatment, H(2)S contents were decreased subsequently. Therefore, we speculated that H(2)S levels of CSF would predict CNSL in ALL children.

9.Diagnosis and treatment of arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy in children.

OBJECTIVETo summarize the experience in diagnosis and treatment of arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) in children.
METHODSA total of 14 children (7 females and 7 males) with ARVC were involved. The cases underwent electrocardiography, echocardiography, cardiac CT or MRI examinations. All cases were treated with sotalol or amiodarone in combination with propranolol. In 2 cases with drug-refractory ventricular extrasystoles, catheter ablation treatment was performed. In 6 cases with obvious impaired ventricular function, additional pharmacological therapy including vasodilators, diuretics, and digitalis were given.
RESULTSVentricular extrasystoles occurred in all 14 cases and ventricular tachycardia in 8 cases. Ten cases showed Epsilon wave on electrocardiography. All 14 cases had enlarged right ventricle and reduced right ventricular ejection fraction. CT or MRI examination showed right ventricular dilatation and a thinned wall of right ventricle in 10 cases. Ventricular extrasystoles or tachycardia disappeared in 7 cases and was reduced in 4 cases after treatment. The two children receiving catheter ablation treatment did not present ventricular extrasystoles or tachycardia in a 3-month follow-up. The heart function was improved in the 6 children with obvious impaired ventricular function after pharmacological therapy.
CONCLUSIONSThe clinical manifestations are diverse in children with ARVC. A definite diagnosis of ARVC should be based on a combination of electrocardiography and echocardiography examinations. Pharmacological therapy is effective partially. Catheter ablation treatment appears to be a promising option in patients with drug-refractory ventricular extrasystoles.

10.Extraction and two-dimensional liquid chromatographic fractionation of plasma membrane proteome of mouse liver cells.

OBJECTIVETo extract the plasma membrane proteins from mouse liver cells and investigate the approach for fractionating the protein mixtures by two-dimensional liquid chromatography.
METHODSThe plasma membrane of the liver cells from 10 mice was extracted by differential centrifugation and sucrose density-gradient centrifugation. The plasma membrane proteins were exchanged with the start buffer and separated by chromatofocusing in the first-dimensional fractionation. The final results were transformed into UV/pI maps using ProteoVue software.
RESULTSWe successfully extracted the plasma membrane proteins from mouse liver cells. Sixteen fractions between pH 8.5-4.0 were recovered in the first-dimensional chromatofocusing followed by 2D- chromatographic fractionation, and the results were displayed as UV/pI maps.
CONCLUSIONThis approach for fractionating the mouse liver cell plasma membrane protein study provides the foundation for further studies on the functions of plasma membrane proteins and differential proteome of diseases.
