OBJECTIVE: To explore the expression and significance of Eotaxin and RANTES in the rat model of allergic rhinitis (AR). METHOD: 20 female SD rats in 6-7 weeks were randomly divided into control group and AR group (n = 10, respectively). AR rat model was made with ovalbumin stimulation. To detect pathological changes in mucosa and chemokine Eotaxin, RANTES in their nasal and lung tissues after execution. RESULT: Compared with the control group, Lung EOS cell counted higher in AR group and the difference was significant (P < 0.01); the AR rats nasal mucosa and lung tissue of Eotaxin, RANTES expression was significantly increased (P < 0.01). CONCLUSION There exist high expression of Eotaxin, RANTES, infiltration of eosinophils in nasal and lung tissue of model rats with allergic rhinitis, inferring that the upper and lower respiratory tract inflammatory response has obvious consistency.

Objective To introduce a new technique for urethral coverage in Snodgrass hypospadias repair,and to evaluate its effectiveness and complications.Methods From April 2003 to February 2006, this new procedure was performed in 289 children with hypospadias aged 3 months to 12 years (mean age,2. 4 years).The native meatus of urethra was identified subcoronal in 78 cases,penile/shaft in 136,penoscrotal in 36 and scrotal in 16;and 23 cases had undergoneⅡstage operation and re-operation.The overlapping coverage with bilateral shaft based vascularized dartos pedicle was done in the new urethra by Snodgrass hy- pospadias repair in these children.Results All the cases were followed for 3 months to 2 years.Postoper- atively,urinary fistulas developed in 32 cases (11%).Of them,11 were cured spontaneously within 4 weeks. The incidence of actual urinary fistula was 7% (21/289).Of the 21 fistulas which were not cured,11 (5%) occurred in 214 cases of distal hypospadias;and 10 (13%) in 75 cases of proximal hypospadias,Ⅱstage and re-operation.No dehiscence and diverticulum was found.Combined with mucosal collar technique,the ventral skin of the penis was sewn on the midline.During the follow-up,excellent cosmetic results with normal-ap- pearing circumcised penis were achieved in most patients.Conclusions Bilateral shaft based vascularized dartos pedicle urethral coverage procedure is a reliable and effective method for preventing urethral cutaneous fistulas and dehiscence.This method can reconstruct a satisfactory cosmetic appearance of the penis.

OBJECTIVETo establish an porcine model of whole pancreaticoduodenal transplantation with portal venous drainage and enteric drainage for ensuring physiologically normal function without hyperinsulinemia and reducing postoperative complications.

METHODSTwenty sichuan native outbreding white pigs weighing 25-30 kg were divided equally into two groups to serve as the donors and recipients. Cooling of the grafts was accomplished with in situ flush with 4 degrees C UW preservation solution via an aortic cannula. A whole pancreatoduodenal graft with the segment of abdominal aorta and the portal vein was harvested from the donor pigs. Type I diabetes model was established by complete removal of the recipient pancreas. The whole pancreatoduodenal graft was preserved and shaped in UW solution, and the subphrenic abdominal aorta of the recipient was joined with the donor abdominal aorta via a side-to-end anastomosis, and venous reflux was reconstructed between the donor portal vein and the recipient superior mesenteric vein. Side-to-side intestinal anastomosis was performed between the donor duodenum and the recipient jejunum.

RESULTSTen pancreaticoduodenal transplantations (PVE+ED style) were done, and pancreatic graft thrombosis and embolism occurred only in 1 pig 6 days after transplantation.

CONCLUSIONThe model of whole pancreaticoduodenal transplantation with portal venous drainage and enteric drainage is stable and reliable.

Objective To explore the correlation of disease activity with the primary syndromes of deficiency and excess types of lupus nephritis(LN). Methods A retrospective study was carried out in 134 LN patients,and the LN patients were differentiated into deficiency syndrome(deficiency group)and excess syndrome(excess group). The disease activity related indicators of systemic lupus erythematosus disease activity index(SLEDAI)scores, complements, inflammation indexes, and urine indicators were compared between the two groups. Results Of the 134 LN patients,33 cases were differentiated into excess syndrome,and 101 cases were differentiated into deficiency syndrome. According to the SLEDAI scores, 9.09％ of the patients in excess group were inactive, 4.95％ of the patients in deficiency group were inactive, and most of the patients in the two groups were at severe active stage. There was no significant difference of SLEDAI scores between the two groups(P>0.05) . The differences of complement C3 and C4 , inflammation indexes of C-reactive protein(CRP)and erythrocyte sedimentation rate(ESR),urine protein,and urine occult blood were also insignificant between the two groups (P>0.05). Conclusion There is no correlation between deficiency-excess syndrome differentiation and disease activity of LN. Most of the LN patients with deficiency syndrome are at active stage,but not at remission stage.

Objective To evaluate the myocardial systolic function and ventricular remodeling in heart failure rat induced by myocardial infarction (MI) with S/SRI and MMP-9. Methods A total of 70 male SD rats were randomly assigned to 4 groups: 4 weeks and 8 weeks MI ( anterior descending branch of left coronary artery were ligated ) , sham operation (thoracotomy without ligation of coronary artery ) and nonoperated control group. The regional myocardial systolic function of rats was quantified with S/SRI. The myocardial MMP-9 expression was detected by Western blot Results In the 4 weeks MI group, all segment's Ssys, SRsys, the strain of end-systole were reduced while PSI was increased compared to sham and nomoperated group with the exception of the inferior wall. These changes were more significant in 8 weeks MI group compared to the 4 weeks MI group. In the 4 weeks MI group, the expression of MMP-9 was significantly upregulated than the sham operation group and this upregulation was more significant at 8 weeks post MI. Conclusions S/SRI can quantitative evaluate the regional systolic function of heart failure rat induced by myocardial infarction. Progressive upregulation of myocardial MMP-9 expression paralleled the deterioration of regional systolic function in this heart failure rat model.

OBJECTIVETo explore the morphotic characteristics of hypoechoic nodules in the outer gland of the prostate with benign

METHODSTwenty-two hyperplastic hypoechoic nodules in the prostatic outer gland were biopsied guided by prostatic hyperplasia. transrectal ultrasound. The hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining and immunohistochemistry combined with computer assisted quantitative image analyses were adopted to examine the mean percentages of the area densities of stroma, epithelium, glandular lumen and smooth muscle cells.

RESULTSThe area densities of stroma, epithelium, glandular lumen and smooth muscle cells were (72.52 +/- 13.14)%, (20.57 +/- 9.01)%, (6.85 +/- 4.51)% and (24.14 +/- 6.31)%, respectively.

CONCLUSIONHyperplastic hypoechoic nodules may develop in the outer gland as well as in the inner gland of the prostate, but the mean percentages of the components are different between the two kinds of nodules.

OBJECTIVETo explore the effect of the improved plastic and reconstruction of the anus in situ.

METHODSImproved plastic and reconstruction of anus in situ was performed in 38 cases of low rectal cancers operated while Miles radical operation. Improvement includes: (1) The internal sphincter was rebuilt with 4 layers of muscle layer of the endmost of colon. (2) The last of gracilis was divided into 2 parts to reconstruct the superficial part and deep part of external sphincter muscle. (3) The rectum cape improvement is to firmly stitch the levator ani outside the external sphincter muscle in front of the colon. (4) The rectum valve is improved into three artificial rectum valves.

RESULTSThe form and function and their long term survival rate were good, the rate of superior anus function was 94.73%.

CONCLUSIONIt mains the results of improved plastic and reconstruction of anus in situ is near that of normal persons.
