National Journal of Andrology 2003;9(5):389-390
Papillary cystadenoma of the epididymis is a rare benign tumor, accounting for only 4 per cent of all epididymal tumors. Histologically, it can be confused with metastatic renal cell carcinoma. This extremely rare lesion may occur sporadically or as a manifestation of von Hippel-Lindau(VHL) disease. The present paper reported a case of papillary cystadenoma accompanied by testicular atrophy with no signs of VHL syndrome or infertility. To date, no similar case was reported in the literature. The tumor measured 5.0 cm x 4.0 cm x 4.0 cm and was located in the right epididymis. Histopathologic examination of a surgically removed specimen indicated a primary papillary cystadenoma. Histomorphologically, these tumors are characterized by cysts with colloid-like contents and papillary formations of light epithelium. Since metastatic renal cell carcinoma may be histologically similar to papillary cystadenoma, the importance of long-term urologic follow-up for possible presentation of renal cell carcinoma is discussed.

OBJECTIVETo explore whether microwave radiation may cause injury of primary cultured Sertoli cells.
METHODSThe model of primary cultured Sertoli cells in vitro was established, which was radiated by microwave with average power density 0, 30 and 100 mW/cm(2) for five minutes. The changes of cell cycle, apoptosis and death, and intracellular Ca2+ concentration in the Sertoli cells were measured at sixth hours through Annexin V-PI double labeling and Fluo-3-AM labeling, flow cytometry combined with laser scanning confocal microscopy after microwave exposure.
RESULTSThe numbers of Sertoli cells were obviously reduced in G0-G1 and G2-M phase (62.57% +/- 3.22% and 8.25% +/- 1.75%) and increased in S phase (29.17% +/- 4.87%) compared with the control groups (79.18% +/- 0.24%, 11.17% +/- 0.50% and 9.64% +/- 0.62%) (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01), but the changes of rate of apoptosis and death and intracellular Ca2+ concentration showed no difference at 6 h after exposure to 30 mW/cm(2) microwave. There was a significant increase in the Sertoli cell counts of G0-G1 phase (87.69% +/- 1.32%), and decrease in the Sertoli cell counts of G2-M and S phase (7.41% +/- 0.60% and 4.87% +/- 0.91%) (P < 0.01). There was also a significant increase in intracellular Ca2+ concentration and rate of apoptosis and death (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01) at 6 h after exposure to 100 mW/cm(2) microwave.
CONCLUSION100 mW/cm(2) microwave radiation may cause growth inhibition and increase of apoptosis and death in the primary cultured Sertoli cells. The increase of intracellular Ca2+ concentration is one of the injury mechanisms.

OBJECTIVETo explore the injury effect and mechanism of hypothalamic neurons after high power microwave (HPM) exposure.
METHODSPrimarily cultured hypothalamic neurons were exposed to 10 and 30 mW/cm(2) HPM, and the inverted phase contrast microscope (IPCM) and flow cytometry (FCM) were employed to detect the injury of cells and change of mitochondrion membrane potential (MMP) and Ca(2+) in the cytoplasm of neurons.
RESULTSThe ratio of apoptosis was significantly higher than that of the sham exposure (P < 0.05) induced by 10 and 30 mW/cm(2) HPM and necrosis increased significantly (P < 0.05) in the group of 30 mW/cm(2) at 6 h after exposure. The content of Ca(2+) in the cytoplasm of neuron cells increased (P < 0.01) while MMP decreased significantly (P < 0.01) after radiation of 30 mW/cm(2) HPM at 6 h after exposure.
CONCLUSIONApoptosis is one of the major death ways of hypothalamic neurons. The overloading of Ca(2+) and the decline of MMP are involved in the process.

OBJECTIVE:
To explore the application value of serum total IgE, tryptase and chymase in the identification of death caused by drug anaphylactic shock.
METHODS:
The general information from 235 cases of non-drug anaphylactic shock and 32 cases of drug anaphylactic shock were analyzed. The serum IgE level had been detected in the cases. Ten cases caused by coronary disease and 10 cases caused by sudden manhood death syndrome were selected from non-drug anaphylactic shock cases for the control group. Expressions of tryptase and chymase in the lung and heart were detected using immunohistochemistry method. The number and IOD of positive mast cells were counted.
RESULTS:
In the drug anaphylactic shock group, the IgE value of 18 samples (56.25%) was significantly higher than the normal upper limit of 120 IU/mL. In the non-drug anaphylactic shock group, the IgE value of 67 samples (28.51%) was higher than 120 IU/mL. The expressions of tryptase and chymase were significantly increased in lung and myocardial tissue in drug anaphylactic shock group (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSION
Tryptase and chymase are more superior than that of the serum total IgE in the diagnosis of death caused by drug anaphylactic shock, and are more suitable in forensic practice.

The purpose of this study was to explore the clinical value of the platelet antibody screening and typing in platelets transfusion by using microcolumn gel immunoassay (MGIA). The platelets antigen-antibody reactions including the antibody screen and blood crossmatch were detected by MGIA. The results indicated that the detection of platelet antibody showed positive in 30 cases of aplastic anemia (AA), 11 cases of myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), 24 out of 25 cases of leukemia and 1 out of cases of other diseases, while detection of platelet antibody showed negative in 20 normal volunteer donors. The number of platelet antibody crossmatch coincidence in 112 specimens of AA, 42 specimens of MDS and 95 specimens of leukemia were 45, 20 and 40, the coincidence rates were 40.18%, 47.62% and 42.11%. The mean corrected count increment (CCI) in 20 patients received platelet transfusion many times was 18.2 after crossmatch and 4.7 before crossmatch. It is concluded that the positive rate of platelet antibody screening is very high in patients with hematologic malignancies, the coincidence rate of platelet antibody crossmatch in 249 blood samples is between 40% and 48%, and the efficiency of using crossmatched platelets in clinic is enhanced significantly.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of microwave radiation on synaptic structure, characteristic of synaptosome, the contents and release of neurotransmitters in hippocampus in Wistar rats.
METHODSWistar rats were exposed to microwave radiation with average power density of 30 mW/cm(2). Electron telescope was used to study the change of the synaptic structure at 6 h after radiation and to identify synaptosome. Flow cytometry and electron spin resonance were used to study the change of the concentration of Ca(2+) in synapse and the fluidity of membrane proteins of synaptosome. High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and spectrophotometer were used to study the changes of contents and release of amino acids and acetylcholine in hippocampus.
RESULTSMicrowave radiation of 30 mW/cm(2) caused deposits of synapse vesicle, elongation of active zone, the increase of thickness of postsynaptic density (PSD) and curvature, and perforation of synapse. The concentration of Ca(2+) in synapse (P<0.01) and tc of membrane proteins (P<0.01) of synaptosome increased contents of glutamic acid and glycine (P<0.01) and release of GABA increased the increase of contents and release of acetylcholine, and activity of acetyl cholinesterase (P<0.01) increased.
CONCLUSIONMicrowave radiation can induce the injure of synaptic structure and function of hippocampus, and then induce the disorder of the ability of learning and memory in rats.

Chinese Journal of Experimental Traditional Medical Formulae 2021;27(18):42-48
Objective:To explore the mechanism of Kangxian Yixin prescription in regulating mitochondrial permeability transition pore(mPTP)and inhibiting cardiomyocyte apoptosis. Method:H9c2 cardiomyocytes were cultured routinely. After 8 h of starvation, the cells were divided into the normal group, model group,Kangxian Yixin prescription(0.25 g·L-1) group, and cyclosporin A(CsA,10 μmol·L-1) group and treated with the corresponding drugs for 24 h for follow-up experiments. The H9c2 cardiomyocyte hypertrophy model was induced by norepinephrine(NE),whose optimal concentration was determined by real-time polymerase chain reaction (Real-time PCR). The degree of mPTP opening was detected by flow cytometry, followed by the measurement of mRNA and protein expression levels of apoptosis-related factors cyclophilin D(Cyp-D),cytochrome C(Cyt-C),and cysteine aspartate-specific protease-3(Caspase-3) after mPTP opening and the quantification of mitochondrial membrane potential. Result:When the concentration of NE was 200 μmol·L-1, the mRNA expression levels of atrial natriuretic peptide(ANP) and brain natriuretic peptide(BNP) were the highest, implying that it was the optimal concentration to induce H9c2 cell hypertrophy. Compared with the normal group, the model group exhibited excessive opening of mPTP,weakened relative fluorescence intensity in mitochondria, decreased mitochondrial membrane potential(
