1.MICROANATOMY OF THE VESSELS OF PINEAL BODY
Acta Anatomica Sinica 1955;0(03):-
Pineal arteries and veins of 46 adult human brains were observed and measured with stero-microscope and light microscope.According to the number of branches, the pineal arteries may be classified into four types: single branched, double branched, three branched and multiple branched types. Among them the single and double branched type occur most frequently. (in 54.55% and 34.09% respectively), the artery originates mainly from the postcromedial choroidal artery (in 69.72%), and the next more frequent origin is the the quadrigeminal artery (in 28.87%). Some pineal arteries have double origins from abovementioned arteries. Most of the starting points of pineal arteries situate in the recess between the superior colliculus and the pineal body, and less of them on the lateral side of the colliculus or beneath the splenium of the corpus callosum. The artery runs frequently forwards or medially towards the gland and enters it at the middle part of its side. Then it gives branches out of or in the capsule to the surface the gland. The branching patterns may be classified into four types and ten subtypes. The arteries vary in length from 0.2~38.4 mm. The mean external diameter of which is 0.30+0.08 mm, and the internal diameter,0.21?0.07mm.On the pineal body there are a pair of venous stems known as choroidal-pineal veins. They begin from the tela choroidea of the third ventricle. After accepting the dorsal and ventral pineal veins on the ventrolateral side of the pineal body, the two venous stems usually unite to form a single vein which converges into the great cerebral vein.

Objective To investigate the effect of acarbose on waist circumference (WC) in patients with IGR. Methods A total of 46 subjects with IGT (2 hPG>7.8 mmol/L) were selected in this study. All the subjects were given diet and exercise treatment for half a month and then treated with acarbose for 3 months in combination with life style modification. Self-paired method was adopted to compare islet βcell function and WC before and after the treatment. Results After acarbose treatment for 3 months ,islet βcell function were markedly improved. Insulin secretion of Fins and 2 hIns decreased ,early insulin secretion index (ΔI30/ΔG30 ) significantly increased ,and BMI and WC were reduced significantly (P<0.05) . Multiple regression analysis showed that there was correlation between WC and TG ,insulin resistance index (HOMA-IR) and islet β-cell function index (HOMA-β) (P< 0.05). Conclusion Acarbose in combination with life style modification can improve islet β-cell function in patients with IGR and reduce WC and abdominal fat accumulation as well.

Clinically, kidney?yang deficiency is one of the main TCM syndromes in patients with major depressive disorder. Warming yang and reinforcing kidney as a therapeutic measure for the treatment of depressive disorder has a?chieved good clinical curative effect. However, there are some problems on the study of kidney?yang deficiency depression. One of the reasons is that the establishment methods of depression animal model with kidney?yang deficiency are not uni?fied. In order to provide reference and further improve the replication method of depression animal models with kidney?yang deficiency, we systematically collected and analyzed the experiment results published in the past 15 years about the depres?sion animal model with kidney?yang deficiency induced by glucocorticoid hormone drugs and find out their similarities and differences.

BACKGROUND:In 1990s,overseas researchers use balloon occlusion method for establishing closed-chest animal models of myocardial infarction. But,ventricular fibrillation and thrombosis of intraoperative factors reduce the success rate of establishing the models. Currently, there are a few reports on establishing the large animal models. OBJECTIVE:We used balloon occlusion method for establishing closed-chest swine models of myocardial infarction, and explored ways to improve the success rate of modeling. DESIGN,TIME AND SETTING:The randomized controlled animal study of pathology observation was performed at the Department of Cardiology,First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical College and Research Room of Pathology,Kunming Medical College from July 2008 to May 2009. MATERIALS:Fifteen Diannan small-ear pigs weighing 19-25 kg,aged 8-11 months, were divided into three groups:sham operation group,ischemia-reperfusion group, and ischemic postconditioning group, with 5 pigs in each group.METHODS:After the coronary occlusion and reperfusion period, the prophylactic use of lidocaine (1.0-2.0 mg/kg) infusion to control arrhythmia, and use of heparin to prevent and treat the thrombosis. A balloon catheter was positioned in the distal end of the first diagonal branch of the left anterior descending (LAD) artery under fluoroscopic guidance. In the sham operation group, the balloon was only placed to the LAD,did not block coronary artery. In the ischemia-reperfusion group, inflatable balloon occlusion was done for 60 minutes in the LAD after the balloon removed. In ischemic postconditioning group, after the balloon was inflated and occluded the LAD for 60 minutes, ischemic postconditioning was elicited by eight cycles of 30-second reperfusion, followed by 30-second reocclusion.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:Coronary angiography, electrocardiogram (ECG) and cardiac enzymes test was conducted to evaluate models of myocardial infarction. After three days, cardiac 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC) staining and pathological examination was done to verily myocardial infarction.RESULTS:In the sham operation group, all pigs survived. In the ischemia-reperfusion group,4 pig models of myocardial infarction were successfully established, and one died of refractory ventricular fibrillation. In the ischemic postconditioning group, models of myocardial infarction after ischemia were successfully established. Following distal left anterior descending artery occlusion, the ECG leads V13 on the ST-segment elevation, the sick rational Q-wave formed;myocardial enzyme evolution of myocardial infarction in the human body was basically the same process. The site of myocardial infarction, basically the same parts, was located in apical, left ventricular anterior wall, and the former interval. TTC staining was normal myocardium brick red, myocardial infarct area appeared pale;pathological examination revealed a normal structure of myocardial infarct damage, cytoplasm condensed, dyeing deepening, transverse striations disappeared, nuclear enrichment, dissolution, fragmentation, many erythrocytes around the infarct area with abundant granulation tissue and a large infiltration of inflammatory cells.CONCLUSION:The described model presents a less invasion to the animals, and is the closest to the process of clinical practice.Intraoperative use of lidocaine and heparin for controlling arrhythmia and thrombosis of the models is successfully established as an effective manner. Ischemic postconditioning may be one of the factors for improving the modeling success rate.

Objective To investigated the relationship between plasma sclerostin(SOST)and knee osteoar-thritis(KOA). Methods A total of 95 patients with KOA and 95 healthy people were involved.Plasma sclerostin, CTX-II, AGG1 and AGG2 levels were measured by ELISA. The 95 patients were divided based on Kellgren-Law-rence classification. The correlation between plasma SOST level and KL classification, CTX-II, AGG1 and AGG2 were analyzed. Results Plasma SOST level in KOA was significantly lower than that in control group(P<0.001). SOST level was negatively correlated with KL grade (r =-0.828,P < 0.001),also with CTX-II (r =-0.917,P <0.001),AGG1 (r =-0.658,P < 0.001) and AGG2 (r =-0.583,P < 0.001). Conclusions SOST level in KOA patients is related to the degree of cartilage degeneration. Thus, it helps to monitor the progress and evaluate the severity of the KOA.
