Objective To summarize the clinical features and vascular lesions in patients who suffered from cerebellar infarction with vertebral artery hypoplasia(VAH). Methods Retrospective analysis was used in the research. The selected patients suffered from cerebellar infarction with VAH or stenosis (stenosis rate≥50%). Seventy-one patients with cerebellar infarction were enrolled. There were 34 patients in VAH group and 37 patients in vertebral artery stenosis group. The age, sex, risk factors, clinical manifestations and characteristics of vascular examination were compared. Results The age, sex, risk factors between two groups had no significant differences (P>0.05). The scores of National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) between two groups had no significant difference (P>0.05). The proportion of early neurological deterioration in VAH group (41.2%, 14/34) was higher than that in vertebral artery stenosis group (18.9%, 7/37), χ2=4.21, P<0.05. There were more patients with anterior circulation artery stenosis in the VAH group (35.3%, 12/34), compared with that in artery stenosis group (13.5%, 5/37),χ2=4.62, P<0.05. Except the ipsilateral vertebral artery, other arteries stenosis in VAH group (44.1%, 15/34) was significantly higher than that in vertebral artery stenosis group (13.5%, 5/37),χ2=8.20, P<0.05. Conclusions Cerebellar infarction with vertebral artery hypoplasia is more likely to have multiple cerebral arterial stenosis (stenosis rate ≥50%). The patients who suffered from cerebellar infarction with vertebral artery hypoplasia might be prone to early neurological deterioration.

Aim To assess the effect of HMG-CoA inhibitors simvastatin on collagen remodeling in rats after myocardial infarction. Methods Myocardial infarction models were induced by ligation of anterior descending coronary artery. 24 hours later the survivals were randomly divided into 3 groups: (1) MI group; (2) 20 mg Sim group(20 mg? kg-1? d-1); (3) 40 mg Sim group(40 mg? kg-1? d-1). Rats with sham ligation formed into Sham group. After 8 weeks, the ratios of LV and RV weight to body weight (RVWI, LVWI) were examined and the collagen content was detected. The type Ⅰ and type Ⅲ collagen volume fraction (CVF) and Ⅰ/Ⅲ ratio in infarcted and non-infarcted zones were examined with PSR dyeing; also the mRNA expressions of type Ⅰ and type Ⅲ collagen in non-infarcted zone (NIZ) were detected with RT-PCR.Results Comparing with Sham group, the RVWI and LVWI in MI group increased significantly. The type Ⅰ CVF and type Ⅲ CVF in NIZ and the Ⅰ/Ⅲ ratio were increased in MI group. The mRNA expressions of type Ⅰ and type Ⅲ collagen in NIZ in MI group were higher than those in Sham group. Comparing with MI group, the RVWI and LVWI in both Sim groups were decreased significantly. The type Ⅰ CVF and type Ⅲ CVF in NIZ and the Ⅰ/Ⅲ ratio were depressed in both Sim groups, and the mRNA expressions of collagens were also lower than those in MI group, but higher than those in Sham group. Conculusion Simvastatin could attenuate the development of myocardial interstitial fibrosis in non-infarction zone to improve myocardial interstitial remodeling in rats after MI.

Journal of Interventional Radiology 2014;(7):640-643
The performance of transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) has two key procedures: (1) portal vein branch puncturing, and (2) the correct judgment of the safety of the puncture site. The portal vein branch puncturing is the most important and difficult step for a successful TIPS procedure. Therefore, to find and to establish an proper access to the portal vein is critical. Nowadays, in clinical practice several imaging techniques have been used to localize the portal vein, such as magnetic resonance imaging, sonography, fluoroscopy, arteriography and computed tomography. This article aims to make a general review on these invasive and non - invasive localization techniques when a successful performance of TIPS is expected.

425 halophilic bacteria strains were isolated by using six different media from thirty salt-soil samples collected from Heijing ancient salt mine,Yunnan. By the growth on NaCl grandient concentration and other screening methods,79 strains of extremely halophilic microorganisms were chosen for further research. Based on colonies color, shape and size,15 stains were selected to be sequenced. The sequencing results revealed that 11 of them were haloarchaea. According to the phylogenetic analysis, they belong to four genera of the family Halobacteriaceae. The blast results showed that the similarities of six sequences were higher than 97 % with the validly described species of the following four genera: Halorubrum,Natronococcus,Natrialba,Halalkalicoccus. The similarities of other five sequences with any validly described species were less than 97 %,therefore, the taxonomic positions of the following five strains YIM-ARC 0032,YIM-ARC 0036,YIM-ARC 0037,and YIM-ARC 0050 could be determined according to further polyphasic taxonomy data. The results indicated that there was a considerable diversity of haloarcheaea in salt-mine environment of Heijing ancient salt mine,Yunnan and it was worth continuing to research on this area.

BACKGROUNDEndogenous hydrogen sulfide (H(2)S) plays an important role in hypertension. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of erythrocyte and serum H(2)S in patients with untreated essential hypertension.
METHODSWe recruited 62 patients (age 22 - 74 years) with untreated prehypertension or hypertension, and 64 normotensive subjects (age 18 - 64 years). We assessed the 3-mercaptopyruvate sulphurtransferase (MPST) protein expression in erythrocytes and measured the H(2)S production from erythrocytes and serum H(2)S levels, then analyzed the association of erythrocytic or serum H(2)S content and blood pressure or cardiovascular risk factors (e.g., age, body mass index (BMI) and dyslipidemia). A stepwise regression analysis was used to evaluate the possible relationship of erythrocytic H(2)S in hypertension.
RESULTSIn hypertensive patients, erythrocyte H(2)S production ((111.04 ± 29.20) nmol/min per 10(8) erythrocytes) was higher than that in controls ((78.85 ± 19.38) nmol/min per 10(8) erythrocytes), and serum H(2)S was also higher. The erythrocytic H(2)S production was associated with increased systolic blood pressure (sBP), diastolic blood pressure (dBP), age, BMI, level of C-reactive protein (CRP), as well as triglycerides (TG) and high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C). Serum H(2)S was not associated with age or CRP. Stepwise regression analysis showed that erythrocytic H(2)S production was correlated with sBP, TG, HDL-C, low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and serum H(2)S was correlated with dBP and TG. Results of receiver-operating characteristic curve analysis suggested that erythrocytic H(2)S production was a more sensitive predictor of hypertension development than serum H(2)S.
CONCLUSIONErythrocytic or serum H(2)S production is sensitive predictor of hypertension.
