The introduction of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) has greatly changed the pattern and natural history of ocular diseases of HIV-infected patients, resulting from the immune recovery and reduction of opportunistic infections. However, ophthalmic complica-tion continues to be concern in AIDS even in the HAART era, especially in developing areas, where absolute majority of HIV-positive patients live. Lack of test facilities and experience, poor conditions of hygiene, different microbiological environment, absence of effective treatment etc., characterize the ophthalmic manifestation of HIV-infected patients in developing countries from that in developed regions and thus pose a great challenge to the ophthalmic treatment in developing area. Not only varied from region to region, ocular complications are distinctive between adults and children. At the same time, the side effects due to the application of HAART pose their own risks of ocular complication and should, therefore, be given more research attention.

In order to improve the metabolism yield of cordycepin and adenosine,we studied nitrogen sources ,the levels of nitrogen sources and carbon sources, dynamic development in liquid culture ,as well as the total yield of cordycepin and adenosine in culture system through determining the contents of cordycepin and adenosine by HPLC .The results are as follows: not only animal protein but also some plant protein is very good nitrogen sources; in culture solution the suitable levels of nitrogen sources and carbon sources is respectively 3% and 4%; the content of adenosine in culture solution is very low, while it is quite high in mycelia; it is much higher that the total yield of cordycepin in culture solution than in mycelia; when the culture system is oscillated and cultured after 7~9 days, the total yield of cordycepin and adenosine are both high.

Objective To investigate the quality of life and its influencing factors of families primary caregivers of dementia patients .Methods The typically self made questionnaire ,WHO quality of life measurement profile (WHOQOL‐BREF) ,zarit bur‐den of care scale(ZBI) ,social support rating scale (SSRS) et al were adopted to investigate 64 caregivers of AD patients .Results (1) The overall quality of life of family caregivers of total subjective feelings were significantly lower than the general health status of subjective feeling score (t= -2 .217 ,P=0 .030) .The field of physiological and psychology points have no statistically significant difference in comparison with Chinese norm (t= -0 .252 ,-1 .994 ,P=0 .801 ,0 .050);the field of social and environment points have statistically significant difference compared with norm(t= -3 .830 ,3 .658 ,P=0 .000 ,0 .001) .(2) caregiver who have spouse , poor parent child relationship and patients with somatic diseases and mental behavior symptoms have lower quality of life(P<0 .05) .(3)Total score of Quality of life was negatively associated with total score of care burden (r= -0 .433 ,P=0 .000) ,while was significant positive associated with total score of the social support (r=0 .346 ,P=0 .005) .(4)Marital status ,parent‐child rela‐tionship ,physical illness and social support were the main factors affecting the quality of life(r2 =0 .409) .Conclusion Strengthen the social support and psychological intervention of dementia caregivers who has a spouse ,poor parent-child relationship and poor physical condition may help to improve the quality of life .

Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) has caused outbreaks of SARS-like disease with 35% case-fatality rate, mainly in the Middle East. A more severe outbreak of MERS occurred recently in the Republic of Korea, where 186 people contracted the infections, causing great concern worldwide. So far, there has been no clinically available drug for the treatment of MERS-CoV infection. The potential drugs against MERS-CoV mainly consist of monoclonal antibodies, peptides and small molecular agents. Small molecular agents have an advantage of easier synthesis, lower cost in production and relatively higher stability. There is better chance for those candidates to gain a quick development. This article reviews the progress of developing small molecular MERS-CoV agents.

In 2012, a new SARS-like coronavirus emerged in the Middle East, namely the Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV). It has caused outbreaks with high mortality. During infection of target cell, MERS-CoV S protein S1 subunit binds to the cellular receptor (DPP4), and its S2 subunit HR1 and HR2 regions intact with each other to form a stable six-helix bundle to mediate the fusion between virus and target cell membranes. Hence, blocking the process of six-helix bundle formation can effectively inhibit MERS-CoV entry into the target cells. This review focuses on the recent advance in the development of peptidic entry inhibitors targeting the MERS-CoV S2 subunit.

Objective To observe the effect of bandage contact lens on cornea epithelial healing after Epi-LASIK,and to evaluate the efficacy and safety. Methods Prospective case-control study. The 92 cases(181 eyes) performing Epi-LASIK were devided into observation group and control group. The 46 cases(91 eyes) of the control group were covered with routine nursing and the other 46 cases (90 eyes) of the observation group were served with bandage contact lens after Epi-LASIK.The symptoms and signs, time of corneal epithelial recovery, visual acuity and pain of postoperation of the two groups were examined within one week. Results After Epi-LASIK treatment, there was no significant difference in visual acuity between the two groups(P > 0.05).At the 1 st,3rd,and 7th day after Epi-LASIK treatment, the ache grading results of the observation group were (2.53 ± 0.62),(1.39 ± 0.71),(0.07-± 0.25);and the ache grading results of control group were (3.22 ± 0.79),(1.74 ± 0.49),(0.26 ± 0.49).Pain scores of observation group were significantly lighter than that of the control group (P < 0.05).After Epi-LASIK treatment, the average time of corneal wound healing in the observation group and control group were (2.80 ±0.86) days and (4.07 ±0.68) days respectively. The average time of postoperative corneal wound healing in the observation group was shorter than control group(P < 0.05).Conclusion The application of bandage contact lens on cornea epithelial healing after Epi-LASIK treatment can reduce the pain of patients and promote the recovery of cornea in myopia patients.
