In this case-control study, the effect of insulin sensitivity on the genesis of cholesterol gallstones was not affirmed. However, raised 2h insulin level during glucose tolerance test and systolic blood pressure were risk factors in gallstone formation. Besides, less physical activity, lower serum total cholesterol and lower HDL-C concentration were found in patients with cholesterol gallstone.

Objective:A fingerprint of raw material, extract ed and injections of radix notoginseng has been studied and provides the quality information.Method:Polaris C18-A column was used, with mixtu res of acetonitrile and water as mobile phase in a gradient mode. The wavelength of measurement was 203nm.Result:According to the selected chr omatographic conditions, a good fingerprint of radix notoginseng and its extract , preparation has been described. Conclusion:The method is simp le, accurate with good reproducibility. It may be practical value for the qualit y control of sample for radix notoginseng and its preparation.

AIM:To investigate the effects of 1.8mm coaxial micro incision phacoemulsification on corneal endothelial injury and postoperative visual acuity.METHODS: Totally 145 eyes in 120 patients underwent phacoemulsification from July 2013 to July 2015 were randomly divided into observation group 60 cases (73 eyes) and control group 60 cases (72 eyes). The observation group 60 cases were given 1.8mm coaxial micro incision cataract phacoemulsification operation, while the control group were given traditional 3.2mm coaxial micro incision cataract surgery. The uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA),best corrected visual acuity (BCVA),corneal thickness of incision area, incision width, incision length, macular retinal thickness, surgically induced astigmatism, corneal endothelial cell counts and complications of the two groups were compared.RESULTS: The UCVA and BCVA on 1wk after surgery of the observation group were significantly higher than the control group (t=3.604,7.109;P<0.05);the width of incision on 1wk and 1mo after surgery of the observation group were significantly less than the control group (t=205.3,225.2;P<0.05).The length of incision in observation group was significantly greater than the control group (t=3.926,5.009;P<0.05).Macular retinal thickness 1wk after surgery of the observation group was significantly less than the control group (t=2.817,P<0.05).The surgically induced astigmatism was significantly less than the control group (t=19.43,22.16;P<0.01);the difference of corneal edema between the two groups was not significant (8.22% vs 11.11%) (x2=0.348,P>0.05).CONCLUSION: The 1.8mm micro incision phacoemulsification is helpful to improve the visual acuity of patients with cataract phacoemulsification, which may be related to the reduction of corneal cell injury, enhancement of corneal closure and decrease post-operation corneal original astigmatism.

China Journal of Chinese Materia Medica 2003;28(7):625-626
OBJECTIVETo study the chemical constituents of Geranium eristemon.
METHODChromatography and spectral analysis were used to isolate the constituents and elucidate their structures.
RESULTFive compounds were isolated from acetone extract of the whole grass of G. eristemon, and identified as beta-sitosterol, protocatechuic acid, myricetin, kaempferol-7-O-alpha-L-arabifuranoside and kaempferol-3-O-alpha-L-arabifuranoside.
CONCLUSIONkaempferol-7-O-alpha-L-arabifuranoside and kaempferol-3-O-alpha-L-arabifuranoside were isolated from G. genus for the first time.

OBJECTIVETo investigate reason and the management of portal vein thrombosis in patients with portal hypertension postoperatively.
METHODS329 patients with portal hypertension in liver cirrhosis who had splenectomy was reviewed from 1992 to 2001. In whom 43 (13.1%) patients with portal vein thrombosis postoperative were analyzed.
RESULTSIn these patients, except 1 died for portal vein phlebitis, all patients were recovered. There are 138 patients who underwent splenectomy or splenectomy and devascularization, 26 (18.8%) of them had thrombosis. 191 patients underwent splenectomy and portacaval or portasplenic shut, 17 (8.9%) of them had thrombosis. The data of these two groups have significant difference (chi(2) = 8.44, P < 0.01).
CONCLUSIONSThrombocytosis postsplenectomy as well as the changes of portal hemodynamics is the main reason of portal vein thrombosis. Portal vein thrombosis is also in association with the operative ways. Operation standardization, dynamic examining platelet count, routine color ultrasonography examining and early anticoagulation therapy are the effective methods in preventing and managing portal thrombosis postoperation for portal hypertension.

Objective To observe the changes of glucocorticoi d receptor (GR) in hepatic cytoplasm in rats after scalding-induced pathologic al stress and its regulation. Methods The receptor binding capa city (R0) and the apparent dissociation constant (Kd) of GR in hepatic cytopla sm of normal, low-degree and heavy-degree scalded rats were measured with rad io-ligand binding assay, with [3H] dexamethasone as ligand. The changes of R0 and Kd of GR were regulated by injections of anti-rat TNFα, IL-1β a ntibodies, α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH), and KPV peptide( Ac- D-Lys-L-Pro-D-Val) respectively in vivo. Results The R 0 of GR in hepatic cytoplasm in rats 12 h after heavy-degree scalding [Mass action robust: (205.52±30.14) fmol/mg; Scatchard: (208.45±30.78) fmol/mg ]were significantly lower than that of control group [Mass action robust:(307 .86±24.22) fmol/mg;Scatchard:(306.71±27.96) fmol/mg](P<0.01), but no s ignificant difference was found in the R0 of GR between the control and the ra ts 12 h after low-degree scalding [Mass action robust: (285.19±16.62) fmol/ mg ; Scatchard: (296.64±16.06) fmol/mg]. The injection of anti-rat TNFα, IL-1β antibodies, α-MSH and KVP all prevented the decline of R0 of GR in h epatic cytoplasm in rats with severe scalding. Conclusion The injections of anti-rat TNFα, IL-1β antibodies, α-MSH or KPV can attenuate the reduction of GR in rat hepatic cytoplasm caused by severe scalding-induced pathological stress to some extent.
