2. Percutaneous thermal ablation for nodular thyroid diseases: An assessment of short-term effects
Academic Journal of Second Military Medical University 2011;32(12):1316-1320
Objective To investigate the short-term effects of ultrasound-guided percutaneous microwave ablation (MWA) and radiofrequency ablation (RFA) for treatment of thyroid nodules. Methods Totally 104 patients with 289 thyroid nodules underwent ultrasound-guided internal-cooled MWA and bipolar RFA in our department from July 2009 to January 2011. The outcomes of patients were closely assessed for a short-term of 6 months; the thermal ablation-related side-effects and complications were also discussed. Results Focal ultrasound images of the 289 thyroid nodules and the core-biopsy pathology findings of some nodules revealed complete coagulative degeneration of the ablated lesions. Follow-up for 3-6 months showed that sizes of all the nodules decreased to different extents. Only one nodule needed an extra ablation. No severe complications were observed. Conclusion The ultrasound-guided percutaneous MWA and RFA are effective, minimally invasive, easy to perform and can achieve rapid recovery. The methods can be used for out-patients with nodular thyroid diseases.

Objective·To isolate lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and capsular polysaccharide (CPS) from Porphyromonas gingivalis (Pg) and analyze their ability to induce THP-1 cells to secrete interleukin 8 (IL-8) in vitro. Methods·LPS and CPS were isolated from the polysaccharides by gel filtration chromatography, which had already been extracted from Pg ATCC33277 and SJD4. The isolated LPS and CPS from different strains were used to stimulate THP-1 cells in different doses and for different periods. The level of IL-8 in the cell culture suspension was measured by ELISA. Results·LPS and CPS were successfully separated from the polysaccharides in Pg ATCC33277 and SJD4. The relative molecular masses of LPS and CPS were 20000-50000 and 150000-500000, respectively. LPS and CPS could induce THP-1 cells to produce IL-8 in vitro in a time- and dose-dependent manner. The effect of LPS from ATCC33277 on secretion of IL-8 was greater than that of CPS with the dose of 0.1 μg/mL (P<0.05). However, the difference could only be found at 24 h in SJD4, and the effect of CPS was greater (P<0.05). Conclusion·As a component of polysaccharides extracted from Pg, CPS can induce THP-1 cells to secrete IL-8 in vitro in a time- and dose-dependent manner.

International Eye Science 2016;16(10):1840-1846
Cornea is the major refractive components of the eye. As a viscoelastic tissue, cornea exhibits complicated biomechanical properties: non - linear elasticity, anisotropy and viscoelasticity. The biomechanical properties play an important role in keeping the normal structureand function. Changes in biomechanical properties are always earlier than the clinical symptoms. So quantitative measurement of the biomechanical properties benefits the early diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Different methods to measure the biomechanical properties of cornea were reviewed in detail, including classic ex vivo destructive tests, commercially available in vivo measuring methods and other emerging methods with the potential for clinical application but not validated for in vivo measurement. The operating principles, advantages as well as limitations of these methods were also described.

The development trend of medical education is comprehensive, which is character-ized by breaking the boundaries among different disciplines, constructing a main line centering on or-gan and system, and implementing student-centered problem-based learning. This paper analyzed the main problems of basic medical education in Wuhan University of Science and Technology, such as insufficient teaching reform to promoting students' autonomous learning and failed to create excellent teaching and research group et al. Also, the paper proposed comprehensive reform measures such as integrating teaching units , establishing Teacher Education Development Center, implementingCourse director andTeam leader system, promoting teaching model ofstudent centered and in-tegrating curriculums of basic medicine to establish course model centering on the organ and system et al, with some success.

In Alzheimer's disease there is obvious evidence of insulin resistance in the brain. Thiazolidinediones,a kind of insulin sensitizer, not only improves insulin sensitivity, but also decreases inflammation, promotes release and clearance of?-amyloid protein, all are beneficial to the improvement of memory.

Journal of Shanghai Jiaotong University(Medical Science) 2017;37(3):368-372
Objective · To observe short and medium term survival of implants in patients with chronic periodontitis after implantation. Methods · 54 patients with chronic periodontitis (133 implants) were enrolled from August 2011 to August 2013. The survival of implants was observed and the periimplant diseases were compared and analyzed between patients with different degrees of chronic periodontitis. Results · The 3-year survival rate of implants was 97.74%. The differences between patients with different degrees of chronic periodontitis were not statistically significant (P=0.452). Periodontal pocket depth (PPD) and modified plaque index (mPLI) were significantly higher in patients with severe chronic periodontitis than in patients with mild and moderate chronic periodontitis. For patients not receiving supportive periodontal therapy (SPT), the peri-implantitis rate in patients with severe chronic periodontitis was significantly higher than that in patients with mild and moderate chronic periodontitis (P=0.009). For smokers, the periimplantitis rate in patients with severe chronic periodontitis was significantly higher than that in patients with mild and moderate chronic periodontitis (P=0.016). Conclusion · For patients with chronic periodontitis, the theraputic effect of implant treatment is good. Plaque control, SPT, and smoking cessation can reduce the incidence of peri-implantitis.

Journal of Applied Clinical Pediatrics 1986;0(02):-
Objective To study the changes and significance of Bid gene expression in hypoxic-ischemic brain damage (HIBD) in neonatal rats. Methods The animal models of HIBD were made. Total RNA from ipsilateral cerebral hemisph ere was extracted.RT-PCR was used to evaluate the levels of Bid gene expression at different time points after hypoxic-ischemic. Results The levels of Bid mRNA were higher in HIBD rats than those in normal rats. The ex pression of Bid mRNA in ipsilateral hemiphere following cerebral hypoxic-ischem ic began to increase at 6 h, increased to the highest level at 24 h, and then gr adually returned. Conclusion The upregulation of Bid mRNA can play a role in the induction of apoptosis fol lowing cerebral hypoxic-ischemic.
