1.Clinical analysis of lower respiratory tract fungal infection in patients with mechanical ventilation in emergency intensive care unit
Journal of Shanghai Jiaotong University(Medical Science) 2006;0(08):-
Objective To investigate the clinical characteristics, pathogen distribution and outcome of lower respiratory tract fungal infection in patients with mechanical ventilation in emergency intensive care unit(EICU). Methods The clinical data of patients with lower respiratory tract fungal infection treated with mechanical ventilation in EICU were retrospectively analysed. Results Eighty(64.5%) of the 124 patients with mechanical ventilation experienced lower respiratory tract infection, among whom 21(26.2%) were complicated with fungal infection. The predominant pathogen was Candida(Candida albicans,n=11;Candida tropicalis,n=5;Candida smooth,n=3;Candida parapsilosis,n=2).Compared with patients with non-fungal infection(n=59),those with fungal infection(n=21) had higher APACHE II score, longer mechanical ventilation time and longer ICU stay duration(P

The antifungal mechanism of the TS67(Penicillum sp.) producing bioactive metabolites was investigated in this paper. The test indicated that mycelia growth, spores forming and spores germination of Bipolaris maydis and Fusarium oxysporum can be inhibitied by metabolites, after 50% fermentation broth acting 120 hours, the inhibition rate of hyphal growth can reach about 77.78%, 70.30%, the inhibition rate of spores forming also arrived at 58.8%, 73.5%; under 50% fermentation broth acting 12 hours, the inhibition rate of spores germination were up to 78.3%, 62.0%, the mycelia under activity metabolites conditoins also showed surface nodulation and growing point expanding irregularly, protoplasmic condesing, etc. Based on all these results, we may draw a conclusion that activity metabolites maybe target at fungal cell wall.

Objective To explore the application of question-based lectures made by students in teaching chapter of nuclear chemical and biological weapon damage among field military nursing. Methods The participants were junior students of four-year undergraduate program.Questions on emergency treatment and care of chemical and biological weapon damage were proposed after a lecture by teacher.Students were divided into three groups after class and each group was assigned to a lecture on emergency treatment and care of one kind of weapon damage.Students had to collect information and prepare PPT for the next lecture. After lectures given by students at next class, discussion on the lectures was organized and comments were given by teachers. Results All students approved this kind of teaching activities,97.44% believed that it can arouse their interest in study,94.87% participated in the collection of data,89.74% took part in the discussion, and 87.18% obtained the sense of achievements. Conclusion Question-based lectures made by students are helpful in stimulating their interest in learning, cultivating their abilities of acquiring and applying knowledge. The teaching activities achieve the preferable results through proper application and meticulous organization.

Objective:To investiate biological properties of Mesenchymal stem cell(BMSC) from rat bone marrow in vitro, and their effects in inducing immune tolerance. Methods:BMSCs were obtained from rat bone marrow by density gradient centrifugation and selected by cell attachment. The morphology of BMSCs was observed by electron microscope. The expression of surface molecules of CD34 and CD44 was analyzed by flow cytometry. The cells were injected ex vivo intravenously after in vitro culture and then CD4+ CD25+ Treg ratio were determined. The proliferation of thymic cells was estimated by 3H-TdR incorporation method. Results:BMSCs were fibroblast-like cells. The expression ratio of CD44 in BMSCs was 98%,but expression of CD34 was negative. After administration of BMSCs,the ratio of CD4+CD25+Treg(2.5%?0.69%) from peripheral blood of rats was higher than in normal group(0.8%?0.14%) and PBS control group(1.0%?0.23%),P

AIM: To examine the change of serum tumor necrosis factor-? (TNF-?), nitric oxide (NO) in patient with congestive heart failure (CHF) and the effect of angiotensin Ⅱ (AngⅡ), valsartan on TNF-? and NO production in culture peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC), to assess the relationship between the renin-angiotensin system and cytokines. METHODS: Venous blood of both healthy volunteers (n=12) and patients with CHF (n=16) were collected. Serum TNF-? and NO were examined. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) were obtained from both the control and the patients groups and cultured with AngⅡ at concentrations of 0, 0.01, 0.1, 1 ?mol/L, respectively. AngⅡ at concentration of 0.1 ?mol/L combined with 0.1 ?mol/L of valsartan was also used. After 24 h incubation, the contents of TNF-? and NO in the culture supernatants were measured. RESULTS: Serum TNF-? and NO production in CHF group were significantly higher than that in control group (P0.05) were observed. AngⅡ stimulated TNF-? and NO release from PBMC of patients with CHF and normal person, which was inhibited by valsartan. CONCLUSIONS: AngⅡ obviously increases TNF-? and NO production from PBMC, which indicates there is relationship between the renin-angiotensin system and TNF-?, NO. The fact that valsartan inhibits TNF-? production may be one of the mechanisms in treating CHF.

Journal of Applied Clinical Pediatrics 2006;0(20):-
Objective To explore the effect of brain derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF) on the birth weight and the brain weight of newborn rats with intrauterine growth retardation(IUGR).Methods Female and male Sprague-Dawley rats were mated together and the vaginal plug formation after mating was for pregnancy diagnosis. The day when the plug was observed was considered day 1 of gestation. Then, the pregnant rats were divided into IUGR group and sham surgery group. On day 17 of gestation, the uterine arteries of pregnant rats in IUGR group were clamped for 30 min by blood vessel forceps after abdominal cavity with clamping blood uessels was opened. The pegnant rats in sham surgery group only had abdominal cavity opened without clamping blood vessels. Then the pegnant rats in IUGR group received 9 g/L saline(IUGR group) or BDNF 1 ?g injected in the rat through caudal veins for 5 days after surgery(BDNF intervention group). After vaginal birth, the weight of newborn rats and their brain weigh were measured and analyzed. Results Compared with the sham surgery group, the birth weight and brain weight of IUGR group group rats decreased by 24.9% and 17.3%,respectively,the results were significant(Pa

Retinal vein occlusion ( RVO ) is a common vascular disease of the retina and is one of the main reasons for blindness. ln recent years, there have been some new understanding about the diagnosis and treatment of the disease, especially some new researches about treatment, for example ,in the therapy of the intravitreal injection of triamcinolone acetonide and anti-VEGFs as well as dexamethasone implant ( Ozurdex ) . This article will make a brief summarization of the progress about the diagnosis and treatment of RVO.
