Objective To discuss the clinical significance of nephroscopic surgery for simple renal cysts. Methods A 2~4 cm incision was made below the 12th costal interspace. Through the incision the nephroscopic decortication was performed in 26 patients with simple renal cyst. Results The operation time was 20~80 min (mean, 30 min) and the postoperative hospital stay, 3~)6 days (mean, 4 days). No blood transfusion was required and no severe complications were noted. Follow-up observations for 3~)12 months (mean, 8 months) in the 26 patients found no recurrence. Conclusions Mini-incision nephroscopic decortication for renal cysts is feasible and mini-invasive, with advantages of simplicity of performance and quick postoperative recovery.

This is the first report of the sensitizing effect of cation surfactant on the enhanced resonance light scattering (RLS) resulted from the interaction of organic dyes with Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA). On the conditions of pH 10.4 ~11.8 and ionic strength being less than 0.050, the interaction of brilliant green (BG) with DNA results in enhanced RLS signals at 398.0 and 467.2 nm overloaded some shoulder peaks in the enhanced region. It was found that the interaction was sensitized by the presence of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTMAB). If 2.0~3.2×10-5 mol/L CMAB was used in the interacting medium, DNA in the range of 0~1.2 (mg/L could be detected with the limit of detection being less than 5 μg/L. Four synthetic samples were analyed with reproducibility

BACKGROUND: Coffee is commonly consumed among young people in China. However, consumers are rarely aware of physicaly adverse effects as a result of excessive consumption of caffeine. DATA SOURCES: A literature search using multiple databases was performed for articles published with concentration on meta-analyses, systematic reviews, and randomized controlled trials. RESULTS: Excess coffee consumption is also a risk of primary cardiac arrest especially in young people. Treatment modalities include activated charcoals, beta-blockers, vasopressin and hemodialysis when necessary. CONCLUSION: Coffee consumers should be advised not to routinely take more than moderate coffee.

Objective To investigate the inhibitant effects of parecoxib, a cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor, in acute fentanyl induced hyperalgesia in rats. Methods (1) Thirty SD rats (n=6 for each group) were subcutaneously injected with fentanyl (40 μg/kg × 4 times with a 15 min-interval) or saline to establish acute fentanyl induced hyperalgesia model, andparecoxib (5, 10 mg/kg) was administrated intraperitoneally in parecoxib group. Mechanical nociceptive thresholds were measured by the tail pressure test every hour during 1~4 hours and once a day during 1~5 days. (2) 24 SD rats (n = 6 foreach group) were subcutaneously injected with fentanyl as above described and randomly administrated intraperitoneally with parecoxib in 10 mg/kg in 15 min before and at the 4th hour and the 1st day after fentanyl injection except rats in the control group, mechanical nociceptive thresholds were measured by the tail pressure test at time points as above described. Results (1)Acute high dose fentanyl injection induced mechanical hyperalgesia and parecoxib (at 5 or 10 mg/kg)inhibited fentanyl induced hyperalgesia in rats. (2)Parecoxib inhibited fentanyl induced hyperalgesia at 15 min before and at the 4th hour after, but not on the 1st day after fentanyl injection. Conclusions This study provides the first evidence that subanalgesia doses of parecoxib had inhibitory effects on acute fentanyl induced hyperalgesia in time-dependent manners in rats.

Objective To explore whether an individual' s intention to gamble varied across different types of gambling. Methods A total of 373 Macau students completed a questionnaire survey on intention to gamble dealing with thirteen types of gambling, and exploratory factor analyses were conducted. Results The analyses showed two factors that had eigenvalues greater than one and explained a total of 59. 455 percent of the variance, with the largest factor explaining 32.59 percent. Participants' intentions to gamble were relatively lower in gambles of low counterparty with mean scores varying from ( 1.62 ± 1.13 ) to ( 2.20 ± 1.35 ), while the intentions were higher in gambles of high counterparty with mean scores varying from ( 2.34 ± 1. 39 ) to ( 3.02 ± 1.55 ). Conclusion Respondents' degree of intention to gamble was highly domain-specific, varying with the type of gambling. An individual' s intention to gamble is not consistent across all content domains, which implied that a potential gambler is not necessarily intended to gamble in all types of gambling.

Clinical Medicine of China 2009;25(5):523-525
Objective To explore the therapeutic efficacy of posterior internal fixation and anterior debride-ment with autogenous bone grafts at one stage on tuberculosis of thoracic or lumbar spine . Methods 16 cases of thoracic or lumbar spinal tuberculosis patients were treated with combined anterior (radical debridement and bone autograft) and posterior (instrumentation) surgeries in one stage between September 2003 and September 2007. The degree of the kyphosis (Cobb angle) was measured and the interbody fusion was observed preoperatively and postop-eratively. The ASIA grading system was used to assess the neurological status. Results All patients were followed up for 10 months to 36 months,on average of 12 months. All patients showed sucessful interbedy fusion, but Cobb angle was not progressed. No recurrence or wound infection was found. 6 cases all got nerve function recovery. Conclusion Thoracic or lumbar tuberculosis treated with this surgical technique can achieve stable internal fixation and a high satisfactory rate with restoring the spinal stability, arresting the disease early, providing early fusion, correcting the ky-pbosis particularly.

AIM:To investigate the clinical effect of panretinal photocoagulation (PRP) combined with calcium dobesilate in treatment of diabetic retinopathy (DR).METHODS:Selected 120 cases (240 eyes) of DR diagnosed in our hospital from January 2011 to January 2016 were retrospectively analyzed.According to whether calcium dobesilate was used, the treatment group was divided into two groups.Sixty cases were treated with PRP combined with calcium dobesilate, and 60 cases in the control group were treated with PRP only. The BCVA, CMT and clinical efficacy of the two groups were compared.RESULTS:Before treatment, there was no significant difference on BCVA between combined group and control group (P>0.05).After treatment, BCVA of combined group was higher than that of the control group (P<0.01).Before the treatment, no statistically significant difference between combined group and control group on CMT, neovascularization and fluorescein leakage area were found (P>0.05);after treatment, the combination group on CMT, neovascularization and fluorescein leakage area value were less than the control group (P<0.01).After treatment, combined group was appearance effect in 65.0%, effective in 30.0%, invalid in 5.0%, the control group was 50.8%, effective 36.7%, invalid 12.5%, all statistically significant differences between the two groups (P<0.05).CONCLUSION:PRP combined with calcium dobesilate in treatment of DR has a more significant clinical effect than PRP alone.
