Objective To evaluate the imaging feature of microcarcinoma of thyroid with CT.Methods CT findings of 50 lesions in 47 patients with microcarcinoma of thyroid ( dimeter,0.5 to 1.0 cm) were retrospectively analyzed.All of the patients had pathological diagnosis.Results Of the 50 lesions,38 lesions showed homogeneous low density on non-enhanced CT and various degree of enhancement on postcontrast CT. Thirty-three lesions showed discontinuous edge of the thyroids on non-enhanced CT. The boundary of 30 lesions became unclear on post-contrast CT relative to non-enhanced CT and the extension of low density of lesions decreased. Theshape of 31 lesions were irregular. Fifteen lesions showed calcifications,with granular calcifications in 13 lesions.Ten lesions were complicated with thyroiditis.Conclusions Irregular shape,discontinuous edge of the thyroids,the shrinkage of low density of lesions on post-contrast CT relative to non-enhanced CT,granular calcifications and multiple small lymph node around lesions indicate the diagnosis of microcarcinoma of the thyroid.It should be noted that thyroiditis can cover up microcarcinoma of thyroid.

Objective To evaluate the effect of propofol on proliferation of human liver cancer cell line HepG2.Methods HepG2 cells were seeded in 96-well plates (100μl/hole) with a density of 1 × 105/ml and randomly divided into 5 groups (n =33 each)∶ control group (group C),group intralipid (group Ⅰ),and propofol 30,60 and 120μg/ml groups (groups P1-3).In groups P1-3,propofol 30,60 and 120 μg/ml were added to the culture medium and then the cells were cultured for 72 h.In group Ⅰ,10％ intralipid was added to the culture medium and then the cells were cultured for 72 h.The morphology of cells was observed with the light microscope after 24 h of incubation with propofol.The proliferation of the cells was determined at 0,24,48 and 72 h of incubation with propofol.The expression of Fas was determined at 48 h of incubation with propofol.Results The number of the cells was gradually smaller in groups P1-3.The proliferation of the cells was significantly higher in group Ⅰ,while lower in groups P1-3 than in group C (P ＜ 0.05).There was no significant difference in the expression of Fas between group Ⅰ and group C (P ＞ 0.05).The expression of Fas was significantly higher in groups P1-3 than in group C (P ＜ 0.05).The proliferation of the cells was significantly lower,and the expression of Fas was significantly higher in group P3 than in group P1 or group P2 (P ＜ 0.05).Conclusion Propofol can inhibit the proliferation of human liver cancer cell line HepG2 in a concentration-dependent manner and up-regulation of the expression of Fas is involved in the mechanism.

OBJECTIVETo observe the antiulcer effects of pomegranate tannins in animal models.

METHODGastric ulcer models were established by pylorus ligation, intragastric absolute ethanol, and water-immersion stress, respectively. The ulcer index, the contents of nitric oxide (NO) and malondialdehyde (MDA), the activities of glutathione peroxidase (GSH-PX) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) from gastric mucosa of rats, the gastric juice volume, free acidity, total acidity,total acid output, the pepsin activity, the amount of adherent mucus and free mucus were measured, respectively.

RESULTPomegranate tannins (500, 150, 50 mg x kg(-1)) significantly inhibited ulcerative formation induced by both water immersion stress and pylorus ligation, obviously decreased the gastric mucosa damages induced by intragastric absolute ethanol, in dose-dependent manner. Pomegranate tannins significantly inhibited absolute alcohol-induced elevation of MDA as well as decreasing of NO level, and activities of both SOD and GHS-PX from gastric mucosa. Pomegranate tannins significantly increased the secretion of adherent mucus and free mucus, but did not affect elevation of the free acidity, total acidity, and total acid output, gastric juice volume, gastric pepsin activity induced by pylorus ligation.

CONCLUSIONPomegranate tannins play a protective role against gastric ulcer. Its antiulcer effect is related to increasing secretion of adherent mucus and free mucus from the stomach wall, which may inhibit generation of oxygen-derived free radicals, and decrease the consumption of GSH-PX and SOD, and maintain content of NO at normal level.

OBJECTIVETo study the clinical characteristics and outcomes of the hereditary medullary thyroid carcinoma (HMTC) and the sporadic medullary thyroid carcinoma (SMTC).

METHODSThe clinical data of 78 patients with medullary thyroid carcinoma who underwent surgery in our hospital between July 1980 and May 2011 were retrospectively analyzed.

RESULTSOf these 78 patients, there were 23 HMTC cases and 55 SMTC cases. The HMTC group was significantly younger age of onset [(36.4±13.5) years vs. (46.6±11.2) years, P<0.01] and a lower pre/post-operative serum calcitonin levels [(850.4±110.20) ng/L vs. (1450.4±118.3) ng/L, P<0.01 and (410.8±133.2) ng/L vs. (1585.4±129.5) ng/L, P<0.01] than the SMTC group. In addition, the mean tumor diameter was also significantly smaller in the HMTC group (14.3 mm vs. 21.0 mm in SMTC group, P<0.05). Tumor multifocality was seen in a significantly higher proportion of HMTC cases compared with the SMTC cases (56.6% vs. 29.1%, P<0.05). The overall 10-year survival was 100% in HMTC group and 80.2% in SMTC group (P<0.05).

CONCLUSIONHMTC has a better prognosis than SMTC.

In order to change the situation that there is few information in plenty of data and to obtain useful knowledge which has high information content, it is necessary to clean data and ensure data's accuracy and without noise off when database is established initially. High-quality data comes from high-quality data source. But incomplete and incorrect and irregular data exist widely in the data source of Chinese materia medica. The phenomenon of synonyms and homonym is quite serious, and there is no unified description for the name and origin of Chinese materia medica among different data sources. So data processing including data analysis and research is very important in the establishment of Chinese materia medica database. In order to get the most accurate and standard data, this paper analyzed the items of Medical Plants in Xiandai Bencao Gangmu, including classification analysis of medical plants: distribution analysis of different classes and analysis of medical part; analysis of synonyms and homonym; analysis of incorrect data and analysis of advantage and disadvantage of data sources.

OBJECTIVETo study the relationship between spiral CT findings and histological differentiation and expressions of p53 and Ki67 in gastric carcinoma.

METHODSTriphasic spiral CT was performed in 158 patients. CT findings included maximal diameter and thickness of tumor in three dimensional CT images, degree of enhancement, mucous situation, lymph nodes, and visceral metastasis were recorded. The expressions of p53 and Ki67 were detected with immunohistochemistry and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction.

RESULTSThe thickness of tumor (chi2 = 5.554, P = 0.018), degree of enhancement (chi2 = 4.978, P = 0.026), and lymph nodes metastasis (chi2 = 6.061, P = 0.014) in the three dimensional CT images were significantly correlated with tumor histological differentiation. Lymph nodes metastasis was significantly correlated with the expression of p53 (chi2 = 5.028, P = 0.025). The expression of Ki67 was significantly correlated with the thickness of tumor (chi2 = 5.674, P = 0.017) and lymph nodes metastasis (chi2 = 5.028, P = 0.025).

CONCLUSIONMulti-slice CT is a simple and noninvasive technique, and can be used for assessing the histological differentiation of gastric cancer as well as the expressions of p53 and Ki67 before the operation.

Objective: To explore the correlation between pull-up ability and upper body composition of male college students in a college in Guangxi, and to provide scientific guidance for college students’ exercise. Methods: A total of 685 male college students were randomly selected from a college in Guangxi.Pull up tests were implemented according to the national physical health test standards. Measurements of muscle mass, fat mass, fat percentage, etc. of the upper limbs were conducted by using the Ogilvy Body Composition Meter (TANITA MC-180). Data entry and analysis were performed by using SPSS 23.0. Results: The pass rate of male college students in the region was 21.7%; There was a statistically significant difference in the fat mass and percentage of body fat between males with different pull-up ability (F=11.30，14.18，12.91，15.22，P<0.01).After controlling age, height, weight and BMI, partial correlation analysis showed that there was a negative correlation between the pull-up ability of male college students and the fat mass and limb fat rate of both upper limbs(r=-0.22, -0.33, -0.31, -0.38, P<0.01). Conclusion The ability of male students in Guangxi to pull up is needed to be improved. Pull-up exercises can reduce fat mass and fat percentage in the upper limbs and improve body composition.

Objective To evaluate the effect of health education in controlling the iodine deficiency diserders(IDD) in order to provide reference data for the further prevention and control. Methods Each village of 3 towns in Congjiang County was selected in 2007, where the health education lasting for 10 months had been implemented in the school students of 3-6 grade and the villagers. The school students of 3-6 grade and 30 housewives in the villagers were investigated for their IDD control knowledge, the salt consuming conditions as well as the sales of both rough and fine salt at a salt retail site in each village before and after the health education was implemented. Results The awareness rate of the knowledge of IDD control in the students and housewives was 91.4% (581/636) and 78.3% (282/360), respectively after intervention, which significantly increased (χ2= 532.044, 326.117, both P < 0.01) compared with the rate of 28.2% (184/652) and 11.4% (41/360) before intervention. The proportion of consuming fine salt was 91.8%(146/159) and 95.6%(86/90), significantly inereased(χ2= 236.623, 135.350, both P < 0.01) compared with 6.1%(10/163) and 7.8% (7/90) found before intervention. The selling proportion of fine salt at the salt retail site in the village was 60.0%(900/1500), significantly increased(χ2= 824.176, P < 0.01) compared with 10.0%(150/1500) before intervention. Conclusions Health education and promotion is solid foundation for effectively controlling IDD, through which the students and villagers are actively and voluntarily involved in the program and hence have formed good living and hygiene habits, thus expected effect has been obtained.

Objective To explore the application of erlotinib based targeting fluorescent probe in the detection of lung cancer.Methods The erlotinib based targeting fluorescent probe was prepared.The lung cancer cells of A-549 were selected as experimental group,and cervical cancer cells of CaSki,SiHa and C33-A were selected as control group.The A-549,CaSki,SiHa and C33-A cells were identified by 0.1 × 10-6,1 × 10-6,10 × 10-6 mol · L-1 fluorescent probe;the identification ability of erlotinib based targeting fluorescent probe on cells in the two groups was observed under the inverted fluorescence microscope.Results When the concentration of fluorescent probe was 10 × 10-6 mol · L-1,the strong fluorescence signal was observed in A-549 and CaSki cells,but the fluorescence signal was not observed almost in SiHa and C33-A cells.When the concentration of fluorescent probe was 1 × 10-6 mol · L-1,the strong fluorescence signal was observed in A-549 cells;the weak fluorescence signal was observed in C33A cells;the fluorescence signal was not observed almost in SiHa and C33-A cells.When the concentration of fluorescent probe was 0.1 × 10-6 mol · L-1,the strong fluorescence signal was observed in A-549 cells;the fluorescence signal was not observed almost in CaSki,SiHa and C33-A cells.Conclusion Erlotinib based targeting fluorescent probe can specifically recognize lung cancer A-549 cells.
