Objective To investigate the occurrence of new cretinism cases and the prevalence of endemic goiter, and the reason of lower coverage rate of iodized salt in the iodine deficiency disorders(IDD) high-risk areas of China, so as to put forward target prevention measures for these areas. Methods A hundred and one counties from 11 provinces(autonomous regions, municipality), such as Tibet, Qinghai, Xinjiang, Gansu, Ningxia, Sichuan, Hainan, Chongqing, Yunnan, Guangxi, Inner Mongolia, were chosen into the survey by simple random sampling. In the counties of high risk, typical sampling principle was used. In the selected townships, searching for new cretinism cases were carried out in the children under 10 years old, the thyroid volume of children aged 8-10 years old were determined by B-ultrasonography methods and their urinary iodine (UI) were determined by As3-Ce<'4+> catalytic spectrophotometry, the intelligence quotient(IQ) values of children aged 8-10 years old were measured by the combined Raven Test in China. In the household survey, the housewives were asked to fill in the questionnaire, the iodized salt coverage rates and the UI levels of child-bearing age women were investigated, the salt iodine content was determined using self-quantitative kit. Epi Info software was used to analyze the determination results. Results In the 101 high-risk counties, 249 were diagnosed as new cretinism cases from 4122 suspected cases searched. The goiter rate of children aged 8-10 years old by B-ultrasound was 8.28% (4434/53 541), 44 counties had goiter rates in the range of 5%-20%, 5 counties had goiter rates in the range of 20%-30%, and 3 counties had goiter rates of 30%. The mean IQ of children was 85.44, and the percentage of IQ value less than 70 was 16.52%(8713/52 745). The median urinary iodine(MUI) of children was 154.69 μg/L, the percentage of UI less than 50 μg/L was 17.26% (9069/52 558). Twenty-five counties had a MUI of children less than 100 μg/L. The MUI of housewives was 107.14 μg/L, the percentage of UI less than 50 μg/L was 27.50% (3722/13 534). MUI of housewives in 46 counties were less than 100.0 μg/L. The coverage rate of iodized salt at household level was 77.85%(13 150/16 891). The coverage rate of iodized salt was 52.80%(1585/3002), 44.72% (631/1411) and 72.82% (1850/2506) in Tibet, Hainan and Qinghai, respectively. More than 10% residents of Tibet, Sichuan, Hainan, Gansu and Qinghai complained that iodized salt was not convenient to buy. There were 71.39%(7652/10 719) of observed people ate crude salt. The average price of crude salt price(0.30-1.20 Yuan/kg) was lower than iodized salt(1.20-3.00 Yuan/kg). Conclusions In these IDD high-risk areas, the risk of endemic goiter and cretinism prevalence is threatening. The IDD monitoring should be carried out successively in these high-risk areas. The prevention measures, increasing iodized salt coverage rate and establishing the sustainable mechanism for eliminating IDD should be strengthened. Emergent iodine fortification measure for high risk region people should be implemented as soon as possible, a long term effective mechanism of eliminating IDD should be established.

Chinese Medical Journal 2012;125(20):3719-3724
BACKGROUNDOur previous papers indicate that flurbiprofen axetil (FA), a cyclooxygenase inhibitor, is a promising therapeutic strategy for cerebral ischemia in rats. This study aimed to investigate whether FA could promote a neuroprotective effect by activation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ (PPAR-γ) after focal cerebral ischemia in rats.
METHODSTotally 48 male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly assigned into six groups (n = 8 in each group): animals in group ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) only received 120-minute transient middle cerebral artery occlusion (tMCAO); animals in group I/R + FA were administered FA (10 mg/kg) by caudal vein just after 120-minute tMCAO; animals in group I/R + FA + GW9662 were administered GW9662 (a PPAR-γ inhibitor, 1 mg/kg) intraperitoneally 30 minutes before cerebral ischemia onset and FA (10 mg/kg) by caudal vein just after 120-minute tMCAO; animals in group I/R + GW9662 were administered GW9662 (1 mg/kg) intraperitoneally 30 minutes before cerebral ischemia onset; animals in group I/R + DMSO were administered 3% DMSO (vehicle of GW9662, 1 ml/kg) intraperitoneally 30 minutes before cerebral ischemia onset; animals in sham group experienced the identical surgery apart from the insertion of the nylon filament. The neurologic deficit score (NDS) were performed at 72 hours after reperfusion, and then mean brain infarct volume percentage (MBIVP) was determined with 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC) 10 g/L staining.
RESULTSNDS was significantly increased in group I/R + FA (12.0 (10.0 - 15.0)), group I/R + FA + GW9662 (10.0 (8.0 - 12.0)), and in group I/R + FA + DMSO (12.0 (9.0 - 14.0)) at 72 hours after reperfusion compared with those in group I/R (7.5 (6.0 - 10.0)). NDS was conspicuously different between group I/R + FA (12.0 (10.0 - 15.0)) and group I/R + FA + GW9662 (10.0 (8.0 - 12.0)). MBIVP in group I/R ((45.82 - 8.83)%) was significantly greater than that in group I/R + FA ((23.52 - 9.90)%), group I/R + FA + GW9662 ((33.17 - 7.15)%); MBIVP in group I/R + FA ((23.52 - 9.90)%) was significantly smaller than that in group I/R + FA + GW9662 ((33.17 - 7.15)%).
CONCLUSIONSFA confers the neuroprotective effect on tMCAO in rats and the selective PPAR-γ antagonist GW9662 attenuates the effect of FA. FA could promote a neuroprotective effect by, or in part, activation of PPAR-γ after focal cerebral ischemia in rats.

OBJECTIVETo study the effect of the fixation on skull and thorough mobilization of the brow area on the results of the endoscopically assisted subperiosteal forehead lift.
METHODSThe operation procedure included adequate subperiosteal dissection, especially at the frontotemporal transition area; complete mobilization of the brow area and fixation of the incised scalp to the skull through a cortical tunnel without tension. 19 patients received the operation.
RESULTSLong-term follow-up showed that all the 19 patients were satisfied with the surgical results. A transient frontal branch paresis happened in one case, which resolved in 3 months spontaneously without sequelae.
CONCLUSIONSCortical tunnel fixation well keeps the brows at a lifted position and achieves persistent rejuvenation of the forehead.

OBJECTIVETo study the mutation patterns of epithelial growth factor receptor (EGFR) exon 18, 19 and 21 in Chinese non-small-cell lung cancers (NSCLC).
METHODSSomatic mutation in samples of 32 cases without Iressa-treatment were compared with that in 10 volunteers blood control. The mutations were identified for the forward and reverse sequence chains for the tyrosine kinase domain of the EGFR gene, followed by DNA template abstraction and Touchdown PCR.
RESULTSNine types of mutation were found in sequences of 7 cases among the 32 non-small cell lung carcinoma tissues, namely, five reported mutation within exon 19, and two new heterozygous mutations, L833V and H835L within exon 21, and two intron polymorphism. These results showed a mutation rate of 9/32 (28.1%) in Chinese with NSCLC, and of 31.6% in lung adenocarcinomas.
CONCLUSIONEGFR mutation rate in Chinese with NSCLC is consistent with those of Asian women reported in the literature but new mutation points in Chinese were presented as L833V and H835L. The mutation rate is in concordance with release rate of NSCLC obtained by Gefitinib treatment in Chinese.

The therapeutic potential of curcumin (Cur) is hampered by its poor aqueous solubility and low bioavailability. The aim of this study was to determine whether Cur nanoemulsions enhance the efficacy of Cur against prostate cancer cells and increase the oral absorption of Cur.Cur nanoemulsions were developed using the self-microemulsifying method and characterized by their morphology, droplet size and zeta potential. The results showed that the cytotoxicity and cell uptake were considerably increased with Cur nanoemulsions compared to free Cur.Cur nanoemulsions exhibited a significantly prolonged biological activity and demonstrated better therapeutic efficacy than free Cur,as assessed by apoptosis and cell cycle studies. In siru single-pass perfusion studies demonstrated higher effective permeability coefficient and absorption rate constant for Cur nanoemulsions than for free Cur.Our study suggested that Cur nanoemulsions can be used as an effective drug delivery system to enhance the anticancer effect and oral bioavailability of Cur.

Journal of Central South University(Medical Sciences) 2008;33(2):169-173
OBJECTIVE:
To determine the expression of lectin-like oxidized low-density lipoprotein receptor-1 (LOX-1) of peripheral blood monocytes in patients with acute coronary syndromes (ACS),and to further explore the effect of anti-inflammatory factor interleukin-10 (IL-10) on the expression of LOX-1.
METHODS:
Twenty-eight healthy controls and 28 ACS patients were enrolled in the study. The levels of IL-10 and tumor necrosis factor (TNF-alpha) were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbnent assay(ELISA). The monocytes of peripheral blood in patients and controls were isolated and incubated with exogenous IL-10 (20 microg/L). The expression of LOX-1 protein and mRNA in the monocytes was examined by Western blot and reverse transcriptase PCR (RT-PCR).
RESULTS:
Compared with the healthy controls, the levels of serum IL-10 and TNF-alpha were significantly elevated in ACS patients (P<0.01). The expression of LOX-1 protein and mRNA was markedly upregulated in the isolated monocytes from ACS patients, which could be downregulated by IL-10 (20 microg/L, 3 h) (P<0.01).
CONCLUSION
The effect of anti-inflammatory factor IL-10 on the atherosclerosis may be a new mechanism resulting in plaque stabilization via the decreased LOX-1 expression of peripheral monocytes in ACS patients.

Journal of Regional Anatomy and Operative Surgery 2024;33(2):166-169
Objective To analyze the clinical efficacy of non-inflatable transaxillary approach and transthoracic approach surgery for thyroid cancer, and analyze the occurrence of postoperative complications in patients. Methods The clinical data of 88 patients with thyroid cancer who underwent surgical treatment in our hospital from October 2019 to November 2022 were analyzed. They were divided into group A and B according to the surgical method.Forty-five patients in group A received complete endoscopic thyroidectomy through the non-inflatable axillary approach, while 43 patients in group B received endoscopic thyroidectomy through the thoracic approach. The perioperative indicators, satisfaction with surgical incision, postoperative pain, and incidence of complications of patients in the two groups were compared. And the main influence factors for the occurrence of complications were analyzed. Results The total satisfaction rate for surgical incision of patients in group A was significantly higher than that in group B(P<0.05);while the intraoperative bleeding volume and postoperative drainage volume of patients in group A were significantly lower than those in group B(P<0.05).The VAS score 3 and 5 days after surgery were significantly lower than that 1 day after surgery(P<0.05),and the VAS score 5 days after surgery was lower than that 3 days after surgery(P<0.05).The incidence of postoperative complications in group A was significantly lower than that in group B(P<0.05).Logistic regression results showed that intraoperative bleeding volume was the independent influencing factor for postoperative complications(P<0.05).Conclusion Both non-inflatable transaxillary approach and transthoracic approach surgery are effective for thyroid cancer, but the non-inflatable transaxillary approach surgery has the advantages of concealed incision, higher postoperative aesthetics, and less intraoperative bleeding volume, postoperative drainage volume and postoperative complications.Excessive intraoperative bleeding is the main factor leading to postoperative complications.
