Cornea is the major refractive components of the eye. As a viscoelastic tissue, cornea exhibits complicated biomechanical properties: non - linear elasticity, anisotropy and viscoelasticity. The biomechanical properties play an important role in keeping the normal structureand function. Changes in biomechanical properties are always earlier than the clinical symptoms. So quantitative measurement of the biomechanical properties benefits the early diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Different methods to measure the biomechanical properties of cornea were reviewed in detail, including classic ex vivo destructive tests, commercially available in vivo measuring methods and other emerging methods with the potential for clinical application but not validated for in vivo measurement. The operating principles, advantages as well as limitations of these methods were also described.

Objective · To observe short and medium term survival of implants in patients with chronic periodontitis after implantation. Methods · 54 patients with chronic periodontitis (133 implants) were enrolled from August 2011 to August 2013. The survival of implants was observed and the periimplant diseases were compared and analyzed between patients with different degrees of chronic periodontitis. Results · The 3-year survival rate of implants was 97.74%. The differences between patients with different degrees of chronic periodontitis were not statistically significant (P=0.452). Periodontal pocket depth (PPD) and modified plaque index (mPLI) were significantly higher in patients with severe chronic periodontitis than in patients with mild and moderate chronic periodontitis. For patients not receiving supportive periodontal therapy (SPT), the peri-implantitis rate in patients with severe chronic periodontitis was significantly higher than that in patients with mild and moderate chronic periodontitis (P=0.009). For smokers, the periimplantitis rate in patients with severe chronic periodontitis was significantly higher than that in patients with mild and moderate chronic periodontitis (P=0.016). Conclusion · For patients with chronic periodontitis, the theraputic effect of implant treatment is good. Plaque control, SPT, and smoking cessation can reduce the incidence of peri-implantitis.

Objective In order to research the effect of tyrosine kinase inhibitor in combination with radiotherapy on the inhibi‐tion of breast cancer cells and breast cancer bearing nude mice .Methods Methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium (MTT) assay was used to e‐valuate the inhibition of different concentrations of TKI on breast cancer cells ,the breast cancer cells was divided into three groups :the TKI treatment group ,the cells in the control group (no the TKI processing) and the control group (non‐TKI and X‐ray irradia‐tion group) .The sensitivity of the cells in each group to X‐ray was compared by colony formation assay .MCF7 cells were xenograf‐ted in athymic nude mice to establish the animal model ,which was used to evaluate the effect of anti‐cancer .Results Colony form‐ing test showed that the separated use of any concentrations of the TKI inhibitor could inhibit the breast cells ,and the cell viability was significantly reduced;TKI combined with X‐ray irradiation could significantly increase the sensitivity of breast cancer cells to radiation ,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0 .05) .Compared to TKI inhibitor or X‐ray irradiation alone ,the combi‐nation of TKI inhibitor with X‐ray irradiation could inhibit the growth of tumor effectively .Conclusion The TKI inhibitor in com‐bination with radiotherapy can effectively inhibit the growth of breast cancer cells ,which provides a new theoretical basis for the im‐plementation of the clinical breast cancer radio sensitization .

In response to viral infection, RIG-I-like RNA helicases detect viral RNA and signal through the mitochondrial adapter protein VISA. VISA activation leads to rapid activation of transcription factors IRF3 and NF-κB, which collaborate to induce transcription of type I interferon (IFN) genes and cellular antiviral response. It has been demonstrated that VISA is activated by forming prion-like aggregates. However, how this process is regulated remains unknown. Here we show that overexpression of HSC71 resulted in potent inhibition of virus-triggered transcription of IFNB1 gene and cellular antiviral response. Consistently, knockdown of HSC71 had opposite effects. HSC71 interacted with VISA, and negatively regulated virus-triggered VISA aggregation. These findings suggest that HSC71 functions as a check against VISA-mediated antiviral response.

Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2005;9(39):155-157
BACKGROUND: In the past, the incidence rates of infectious diseases, natural epidemic diseases and endemic diseases in three gorges areas were always high. Because the flooded areas of Kaixian was enormous, the population of Kaixian was intensive density, the pollution may harm to the population health after the dam has been established.OBJECTIVE: To predict the influence of the Three-gorges dam on population health in Kaixian County of Chongqing and put forward to scientific evidence of preventive measures through analyzing the main health indicators and influence factors in Kaixian.DESIGN: Cross-sectional study.SETTING: Public Health College of Chongqing Medical University and Disease Controlled Center in Kaixian County of Chongqing.PARTICIPANTS: The survey was conducted in Kai County of Chongqing, from February to May 2004. All disease surveillance data of people in this county was investigated and other people lived in three-gorges area or around area were selected as the controls.METHODS: Collect and sort relevant indicators of social development, population health and public health system of Kaixian and related area to go deep into the representative townships to do some filed investigation, collect water samples of local drainage areas to carry out laboratory quantitative analysis; carry out comparative analysis based on the relevant materials; carry out comprehensive predicting and evaluation to the potential impact on population health of the three gorges engineering by combining the quantitative and qualitative analysis methods.general people in Kai county, Chongqing city and all over the nations durKai county, Chongqing city and all over the nations during 1999 and 2003;ty, Chongqing city and all over the nations during 1999 and 2001: Mortality rates of infants and under-five children were also higher than that average levels of whole country and Chongqing respectively; Multi-indicators showed that the general population health status of Kaixian was great bad, which stood a distinct gap among average levels of the whole country and Chongqing maintained about 250/100 000 or so, which was higher than the national level (190/10 000), however, the incidence rate of infectious diseases of Kaixian was rising year after year, even that of the recent two years has been reached up to more than 1.5 times higher than that of the whole of the water-based infectious diseases, especially the virus hepatitis, was severe. Another potential impact on population health of three-gorge dam is the emergence of natural epidemic diseases and insect-based infectious diseases. Malignant tumor such as hepatocarcinoma.CONCLUSION: We should strengthen current public health system, and cognition to the possible threat on disease epidemic and public health. With the construction of three-gorge dam, it is necessary to speed up establishment of effective measures to reduce predictable influence on population health.

A 29-year-old woman was admitted to the Department of Rheumatology,Peking Union Medical College Hospital due to intermittent rashes, fever and headache.Palpable purpura were symmetrically distributed on the extremities and trunk.Other manifestations included headache with nausea and vomiting.Elevated white blood cell (WBC) count, platelet (PLT) count, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and C-reactive protein were the main laboratory findings.Antinuclear antibodies and antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies were negative.Examination of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) revealed high intracranial pressure, while routine cytology and biochemical tests of CSF were normal.Head MRI scan and PET-CT did not detect remarkable findings.A diagnosis of systemic vasculitis was confirmed by the biopsy of skin lesion which showed inflammatory infiltration of the muscular vessel wall.Combination therapy of corticosteroids and cyclophosphamide lead to a rapid improvement in clinical symptoms and laboratory parameters. The patient was in stable remission till 6 month follow-up.
