Virologica Sinica 2001;16(1):11-14
Sucking mice, 2~3 day after birth, were intraperiton eally inoculated with 0.05mL F1M10 of Chen Strain Hantaan virus. At diff erent t ime point after inoculation, the brains were taken, routinely fixed and embedded in paraffin for preparing 5 μm serial sections. Traditional and confocal immun ochemical detection of viral antigens and heat shock protein 70 were performed t o exp lore the cerebral stress response after viral infection. The results showed that HSP70 immunoreactivities could be stably detected in the viral antigen positive neurons, but not in the viral antigen negative or uninfected control tissues. B y confocal microscopic examination, the HSP70 and viral antigens were colocolize d in the neuronal cytoplasm. Our result, comparable to our previous findings in human tissues and culture cells, indicated that Hantavirus infection can induce the expression of HSP70 in the infected cells, and HSP70 expression might be n ecessary but not sufficient to keep the cell survival.

Objective To study the clinical therapeutic effectiveness and the mechanism of Shouti Oral Liquid on simple obesity children with hyperinsulinism. Methods Fourty - three patients were divided randomly into the treatment group (TG) and the control group (CG). TG took Shouti Oral Liquid and CG took metformin. The course of therapy lasted 6 months. The plasma lipid, body fats, insulin resistance index (IR) and some hormones related to obesity before and after therapy were measured and the changes were analyzed. Results The weight, F% , body mass index (BMI), leptin(LP), tumor necrosing factor (TNF - ?), FINS, IR all declined markedly than pre - therapy in both groups. The significant effect, normal effect and total efficiency were 22.7 % , 59.1 %, 81.8 % respectively in TG and9.5%,52.4%,61.9% in CG. The effect in TG was better than that in CG. A short course with Shouti Oral Liquid therapy did not have obvious side effect Conclusions There are lipid metabolism disorder, insulin resistance and high lever LP and TNF - ? obesity children with hyperinsulinism. The total effect with Shouti Oral Liquid is better than that with medicine in the control group and the mechanism was regulating lipid metabolism, decreasing LP and TNF-? and ameliorating insulin resistance.

piRNA(Piwi-interacting RNA) is a novel class of small single strand RNA that were recently isolated from testes of the mammals, associate with PIWI proteins, and are organized into distinct genomic clusters. These RNAs are typically 30 nt long, strikingly different from microRNAs in their length, expression pattern, and genomic organization. piRNA has a role in RNA silencing via the formation of an RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC) with Piwi proteins, these piRNA complexes (piRCs) have been linked to transcriptional gene silencing of retrotransposons and other genetic elements in germ line cells, particularly those in spermatogenesis.Recent researches and progresses of piRNAs are reviewed.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the root canal curvature of permanent anterior teeth from Chuang population.
METHODS245 anterior teeth from Chuang population were collected and examined by X-ray radiography both from labiolingual and mesiodistal directions. For 218 type I anterior teeth, degree of root canal curvature, radius of curvature and length of the curved part of root canal were measured by a special electronic vernier caliper according to Schneider's and Schäfer's method and the data obtained were analyzed.
RESULTSRoot canals of anterior teeth from Chuang population were mainly of type I. The number of type II, III, IV were about 13 in mandibular central and 12 in mandibular lateral incisors. The incidence of curvature in maxillary central incisors, lateral incisors, canines and mandibular central incisors, lateral incisors, canines were 40%, 80%, 77%, 65%, 66%, 73% in mesiodistal directions, 62%, 69%, 70%, 62%, 41%, 61% in labiolingual directions respectively. The most curvature was moderate and happened in apical third. The heaviest curvature occurred in maxillary canines in mesiodistal direction and mandibular canines in labiolingual direction. The shortest radius and length of curvature occurred in maxillary lateral incisors.
CONCLUSIONRoot canal curvature of anterior tooth in Guangxi Chuang population is complex. The incidence of type II, III, IV is high in mandibular incisors.

OBJECTIVEFor heart functional parameters, we commonly used normal range. The reference values and predict formulas of heart functional parameters and their relationships with individual characteristics are still lack.
METHODSLeft ventricular (LV) volumes (end-diastolic volume and end-systolic volume), stroke volume (SV), ejection fraction (EF) and cardiac output (CO) were measured by cardiac CT angiography (CAT) in 1 200 healthy Caucasian volunteers, men 807 and women 393, and age 20-90yr. The results are analyzed by high-accuracy three-dimensional imaging technology, and then measured the dynamic changes of the volumes of each atriam and ventricule during their contractions and relaxations. The gender, age, height and weight were analyzed by multiple linear regression to predict LV functional parameters.
RESULTSExcept the LVEF was lower in man than in women (P < 0.001), all other LV functional parameters of EDV, ESV, SV, FE and CO were higher in man (P < 0.001). Multiple linear regression indicated that age, gender, height and weight are all independent factors of EDV, ESV and SV (P < 0.001). CO could be significantly predicted by age, gender and weight (P < 0.001), but not height (P > 0.05). The predict equation for CO (L x min(-1)) = 6.963+0.446 (Male) -0.037 x age (yr) +0.013 x weight (kg).
CONCLUSIONAge, gender, height and weight are predictors of heart functions. The reference values and predict equations are important for noninvasive and accurate evaluation of cardiovascular disease and individualized treatment.

BACKGROUNDDamage to the gut barrier often occurs during critical illnesses. In such cases, it is very important to alleviate impairment of the intestinal barrier and protect intestinal barrier function. This study investigated the protective effect of growth hormone on intestinal barrier function in rats under stress.
METHODSThis study consisted of prospective, randomized, and controlled animal experiments. Twenty-five Sprague-Dawley rats served as total parenteral nutrition (TPN) models and were divided into three groups: TPN group, sepsis (Sep) group, and growth hormone (GH) group. Another 8 rats served as normal controls. Each group received different stress stimuli. Rats were fed for 7 days, and samples were taken for examination 24 hours after gavaging with dual saccharides.
RESULTSThe architecture of the small intestinal mucosa in the Sep group showed the most severe damage among all groups. Nitric oxide levels in blood plasma and immunoglobulin A levels in the intestinal mucosa of the GH group were significantly lower than in the Sep group (P < 0.02). There were no significant changes in CD3 counts and in the CD4/CD8 ratio between the four groups. Dual sugar tests and bacteriological examinations revealed that intestinal permeability and rate of bacterial translocation in the GH group were lower than in the Sep group (P < 0.01, respectively).
CONCLUSIONProphylactic treatment with growth hormone can alleviate damage to intestinal barrier function caused by trauma and endotoxemia in rats under stress.
