1.Clinicopathologic study of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma of the salivary gland

Objective To study the histopathologic features and pathogenesis of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma (MALT-oma) of salivary glands. Methods Clinical data, paraffin-embedded sections, immunohistochemical slides (SP method) and electron microscopic features of surgical specimens of 32 cases of salivary gland MALT-oma were studied. Results The patients were 27 males and 5 females, with a mean age of 54.76 years. The lesions were located in the parotid area in 17 cases, and in the submandibular gland in the remaining 15 cases. Much of the MALT-oma was replaced by infiltration of a great amount of centrocyte-like cells (CCL) as background and occasional large cells (centroblast- or immunoblast-like). In MALT-omas “lymphoepithelial lesions" were present. Immunohistochemically, CD20 expression was found to be positive and CD45RO expression was negative in all MALT-omas. Conclusion Most of the MALT-omas are low grade malignant tumors and have a “homing back" phenomenon. The cases were managed by surgery and chemotherapy. In a few MALT- omas which turned into high grade malignant tumors, the prognosis was poor. Acquired MALT may develop as a reaction to autoimmune disease and infection. Hyper-immune reaction and MALT hyperplasia under stimulation may result in myoepithelial sialadenitis and lead to MALT-oma of the salivary gland.
2.A comparative study on alkaline ashing method and chloric acid digestion method for determination of human milk iodine

Objective Take alkaline ashing method as golden standard to explore the accuracy of chloric acid digestion method in determination of human milk iodine. Methods Sixty one breast milk samples collected in Hexi district of Tianjin was measured by the method for determination of iodine in foodstuff by As3+-Ce4+ catalytic spectrophotometry (referred to as the alkaline ashing method) published in 2008 and the method for determination of iodine in urine by As3+-Ce4+ catalytic spectrophotometry(referred to as acid digestion) published in 1999, respectively. were highly correlated(r = 0.960, t = 26.3, P < 0.01), and the regression equation was (Y) = - 28.1 + 0.808X, in which X was independent variable, that is the results of alkaline ashing method; (Y) was dependent variable, that is the estimated data of chloric acid digestion method. The average difference of the results measured by the two methods was 68.3 μg/L, and the results from chloric acid digestion was 38.9% which lower than that of alkaline samples were diluted by 3,4 and 5-fold and then digested by chloric acid, the liquid clarification rates were 80.3% ashing and chloric acid digestion method were, respectively, 165.4, 110.0 μg/L. Conclusions Compared with alkaline ashing method, the results determined by chloric acid digestion method are significantly lower. It is suggested that there are systemic errors in chloric acid digestion method, which means that alkaline ashing method can not be replaced by the chloric acid digestion method.
3.Spectral analysis of blood pressure signal in conscious rats released from simulated microgravity.

The aim of the present study was to examine whether there are changes in systolic and diastolic blood pressure (SBP and DBP) and heart rate (HR) and their spectral indices in conscious free-moving rats after tail-suspension for 28 d. The tail-suspended hindlimb-unloaded (HU) rat model was used to simulate the cardiovascular effect of microgravity and the post-spaceflight cardiovascular dysfunction. The auto- and cross-spectral analysis of SBP variability (SBPV) and HR variability (HRV) were performed by the method based on the autoregressive model (AR), and the auto-spectral results was compared with the results from the classical periodogram method. The baroreceptor-heart rate reflex sensitivity (BRS) was estimated using transfer function analysis from SBP to HR. The results indicated that auto-spectral results based on the two methods were comparable, while smoother power spectral curves with distinguished peaks were trained by the AR method. The means of SBP, DBP, and HR, the main spectral indices of SBPV and HRV, and the mean average gain of transfer functions computed at low- and high-frequency ranges (0.25-0.8 Hz and 0.8-2.4 Hz) did not show significant changes before and after release from suspension. Furthermore, the main spectral indices of SBPV and HRV at different time points did not show significant differences between the control and suspension groups. However, the means of SBP, DBP, and HR at different time points were significantly higher in simulated weightless rats than those in the control rats. The findings of the present study suggest that a mid-term simulated microgravity might induce hypertension and tachycardia upon removal from the suspension which reflects a general sympathetic hyperactivity. We speculated that the sympathetic hyperactivity might be a compensatory mechanism activated in the intact animal to counteract HU-induced hypo-responsiveness of resistance vessels. In addition, lack of clear and distinct changes in HRV and BRS have also been reported in some recent space and ground-based human studies.

4.Mechanism of apoptosis induced by specific COX-2 inhibitor SC236 in gastric cancer cells.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the underlying mechanism of apoptosis-inducing effect of a specific COX-2 inhibitor SC236 in gastric cancer cells.
METHODSWestern blot analysis was used to measure apoptosis-related proteins, cytochrome c, and caspase-3. The catalytic activity of the caspases was measured using a colorimetric assay.
RESULTSTreatment of AGS gastric cancer cells with SC236 caused a significant elevation of the pro-apoptotic protein Bak, release of cytochrome c to the cytosol, and activation of caspase-3. A specific caspase-3 inhibitor, z-DEVD-fmk, blocked SC236-induced apoptosis.
CONCLUSIONSC236 inhibits cell growth and induces apoptosis in gastric cancer cells at least partly through the up-regulation of Bak, stimulation of cytochrome c release, and activation of caspase-3.

5.Experiment study of tongfu huoxue decoction in the treatment of intracelebral hemorrhage.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effects of Tongfu Huoxue decoction on experimental intracelebral hemorrhage and the associated machenisms.
METHODThe cerebral hemorrhage model in rats was induced by local injection of type VII collagenase and they were randomly divided into four groups. The treated groups were treated with Naoxuekang and Tongfu Huoxue decoction. The control groups were only treated with water. The changes of neurological defect were observed. The content of brain water, MDA, NO and the activity of SOD were measured.
RESULTThe cerebral hemorrhage rats showed hemiplegia, and the hemorrhage brains showed celebral edema, higher quotient of brain and content of brain water, suggesting the hemorrhage model was established successfully. After the treatment of Tongfu Huoxue decoction, the hemorrhage rats showed smaller hemorrhage volume, the brain tissue from the hemorrhage rats had lower MDA content and the quotient of brain, and also had higher activity of SOD and content of NO.
CONCLUSIONTongfu Huoxue decoction has treatment effects on cerebral hemorrhage.

6.A new method of NOTES:experimental study of totally transtracheal endoscopic thyroidectomy on animals

Objective:To investigate the feasibility and safety of a new method of natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery(NOTES) -totally transtracheal endoscopic thyroidectomy(TTET) .Methods:Three miniature swines and 6 beagle dogs were underwent TTET.Under general anesthesia,special designed endotracheal tube with 2-channel was used and endoscope and instruments were inserted through the respective channel.Incision of tracheal anterior wall was accomplished and partial or subtotal thyroidectomy was performed.Finally,the defects in the trachea were sutured with ENDO STITCH instrument.Results:Partial thyroidectomy was successfully accomplished on 3 pigs and subtotal thyroidectomy was done on 6 dogs.No serious complications such as anoxia,asphyxia,airway obstruction and death occurred during the operation.Animals were sacrificed 2h after the procedure and incision of trachea was found to be closely sutured.There were no subcutaneous emphysema and haematoma formation.Conclusion:Preliminary experimental results showed the feasibility and safety of TTET.Transtracheal access maintains the integrity of cervical tissues and achieves an optimal cosmetic outcome.TTET may open up a new field of NOTES on thyroid surgery.
7.Treatment of advanced neuroendocrine tumors with ~(90)Y-DOTATATE

Objective To evaluate the effcacy and side effects of [~(90)Y-1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane-N,N',N",N'"-tetraacetic acid (DOTA)~0,Tyr3]octreotate (~(90)Y-DOTATATE) combined with lysine as a renal protective agent.Methods Twenty-five patients with advanced neuroendocrine tumors were confirmed as somatostatin receptor subtype-2 (SSTR2)-positive by somatostatin receptor scintigraphy (SRS).Each patient received 1-5 cycles of treatment and the interval between two cycles of treatment was 6-9 weeks.~(90)Y-DOTATATE was administered intravenously within 30 min.Lysine was injected before and after the administration of ~(90)Y-DOTATATE.After each treatment cycle.the side effects were assessed according to National Cancer Institute Grading Criteria(NCIGC).The etticacy was evaluated by the WHO criteria 8 weeks after the last treatment.Results Pattial remission was found in 1 patient (4%).minor response in 3 patients(12%),stable disease in 16 patients (64%)and tumor progression in 5 patients (20%).Two patients suffered from renal functional injuries and 3 patients developed leukocytopenia.Three patients showed nausea while another 3 patients presented vomiting.Conclusions ~(90)Y-DOTATATE in association with lysine may be a promising treatment method for the patients with metastatic and inoperable neuroendocrine tumors.More research work may be directed to reduce renal injury.
8.Analysis of Inflammatory Factors and Related Factors in Population With Overweight Combining Abdominal Obesity and High-normal Blood Pressure

Objective: To explore the changes of inflammatory factors and related factors in the population with overweight combining abdominal obesity and high-normal blood pressure (BP). Method: Our research included in 2 groups: Group A: n=189 subjects with high-normal BP, overweight and abdominal obesity, their BMI ≥ 24 kg/m2, waist circumference (WC) ≥ 90 cm in male, WC ≥ 85 cm in female, SBP(120-139) mmHg or DBP (80-89) mmHg; Group B, n=87 healthy subjects with matched age, BMI < 24 kg/m2, BP < 120/80 mmHg as normal control. Blood lipids and other biochemical parameters were examined; serum levels of intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICMA1), monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP1), chemokines-1 (CXCL-1), CXCL-2 and oxidized low density lipoprotein (oxLDL) were measured by ELISA. Results: Compared with Group B, Group A had increased TG, fasting blood glucose and non-HDL-C, all P<0.05; elevated serum levels of ICMA1 and MCP1, both P<0.05. Correlation analysis indicated that in Group A, ICMA1 was positively related to BMI, SBP, LDL-C and negatively related to age, which had gender difference; MCP1 was positively related to WC, SBP, LDL-C, non-HDL-C and negatively related to HDL-C, which also had gender difference; oxLDL was positively related to SBP, LDL-C; no evidence showed that CXCL-1 and CXCL-2 were related to obesity, BP and metabolic parameters; in Group B, no evidence showed that inflammatory factors were related to the other parameters. Linear regression analysis for inflammatory parameters found that after excluding other factors, in Group A, ICMA1 was positively related to BMI (t=2.901, P=0.005); in male gender, MCP1 was positively related to SBP (t=5.076, P=0.000), negatively related to DBP (t=-3.369, P=0.001). oxLDL was positively related to age (t=2.168, P=0.032) and LDL-C (t=2.146, P=0.034); CXCL-1 was negatively related to HDL-C (t=-2.013, P=0.047). Conclusion: The subjects with overweight abdominal obesity and high-normal BP were usually having abnormal metabolism of glucose and lipids, elevated serum levels of inflammatory parameters, blood levels of inflammatory factors were increasing with elevated BMI and SBP accordingly which implied the association with critical range of BP.
9.Effects of left ventricular reconstruction on magnetic resonance imaging derived left ventricular wall stress and contractive function in patients with postinfarction ventricular aneurysm

Objective To evaluate the effects of left ventricular reconstruction on left ventricular wall stress and function in patients with postinfarction left ventricular aneurysm.Methods During January 2005 to June 2006,16 patients[15 male,(56.6±8.8)years]with postinfarction ventricular aneurysm received left ventricular reconstruction operation on CPB(5 linear repair,6 endoventricular purse-string suture,5 endoventricular patch repair)and CABG was also performed in 15 patients.MRI examination was made before and 3 months post operation by Siemens Magnetom Avanto 1.5T MR with routine cine-MRI in combination with late-delayed enhancement sequence.Left ventricular geometric parameters and segmental thickening were obtained with accessory image analysis software.Non-invasive blood pressure was acquired in order to compute ventricular wall stress.The revascularized and unrevascularized segments were defined by comparing the post operation revascularization of the blood-supply coronary artery with preoperative results.Results A total of 192 segments including 74 unrevascularized segments were analyze & Segmental thickening were significantly increased while wall stress were significantly reduced in both unrevascularized and revascularized segments 3 months post operation compared to preoperative values(all P<0.05).The increase of wall thickening was positively correlated with the reduction of wall stress in these segments.Condusion Left ventricular reconstruction plus CABG is associated with reduced Ieft ventricular wall stress and increased myocardial contractive function in patients with postinfarction left ventricular aneurysm
10.Changes of Hormone Levels and Ovary Size in Ovarian Aging

Objective To investigate the changes of serum sex hormone levels and ovary size in ovarian aging in women living in a Beijing community .Methods A total of 418 healthy women aged 30 to 68 years who could be staged by STRAW +10 staging system were recruited from a Beijing community and prospectively fol -lowed-up for 5 years.Menstrual diary was recorded by every woman during the research .Serum estradiol ( E2 ) and follicle stimulating hormone ( FSH) levels were tested at baseline and 5 years later .Pelvic ultrasonography was performed for measurement of ovary size .Results According to STRAW+10 stage, E2 began to decrease in early postmenopausal stage , which further decreased in late postmenopausal stage .FSH increased significantly from the beginning of late menopausal transition stage , remaining at a high level after menopause .The length , width , and area of the ovary all reduced after menopause .Hormone levels and ovary size changed with some rules in the 5-year follow-up even when the STRAW+10 stage did not change .In women with staging progressed after 5 years of follow-up, E2 and FSH levels, and length, width, and area of the ovary were significantly different ( all P<0.01 ) when progressing from early or late menopausal transition stage to early postmenopausal stage . Ovarian no-echo cyst (diameter ≥1.4 cm and <2.5 cm) was the most common in late menopausal transition stage both at baseline and after 5 years, with an incidence of 6.5% and 12.1%, respectively.Conclusions When the STRAW+10 stage changes from menopausal transition to early postmenopausal stage , E2 decreases and FSH increases significantly with obvious ovarian atrophy .Reproductive aging has more influence on hormone lev-els and ovary size than aging does .STRAW+10 staging system could be applied for women in Beijing .
