OBJECTIVETo assess the clinical effectiveness of volar and radial column approach by plate fixation for the treat- ment of unstable fracture of distal radius.
METHODSAccording to Cochrane Systematic Review, Medline, Embase, Cochrane Li- brary, CNKI and CBM, randomised controlled trials (RCTs) of volar and radial column approach by plate fixation for the treat- ment of unstable fracture of distal radius were searched for from 1966 to 2014. Data analysis was performed with the Cochrane Collaboration's RevMan 5.0 software.
RESULTSTotally 391 patients of 6 RCTs and 2 retrospective cohort studys were included and divided into volar plate group (187 cases) and radial column plate group (204 cases). Meta-analysis result showed: compared with radial column plate group, volar plate group had significant difference in recovery of wrist function [SMD = 0.74, 95% CI (0.47, 1.01), P < 0.00001], Gartland-Werley scores [SMD = -1.39, 95% CI (-2.24, -0.53), P = 0.001], postoperative neural in- jury [OR = 3.67, 95% CI (1.37, 9.84), P = 0.01 1 and postoperative wrist pain [OR = 0.32, 95% CI (0.13, 0.74), P = 0.008]. But no significant difference was identified in DASH scores [SMD = -0.36, 95% CI (-0.97, 0.26), P = 0.25], radiographic result assess- ment [SMD = -0.18, 95% CI (-0.53, 0.16), P = 0.3], postoperative grip strength [SMD = 0.71, 95% CI (-0.12, 1.54),P = 0.09], postoperative tendinous damage [OR = 0.31, 95% CI (0.10, 0.98), P = 0.05] and carpal tunnel syndrome [OR = 0.96, 95% CI (0.63, 1.48), P = 0.87].
CONCLUSIONCompared with radial column plate internal fixation, volar approach plate fixation for treat- ment of distal radius intra-articular fracture has advantage of recovery of joint functionand. However, the volar approach plate fix- ation was associated with a higher risk of long-term complications than the radial column approach plate fixation.

Microbiology 2008;0(09):-
Quorum sensing systems of pathogens are central regulators for the expression of virulence factors. Increasing evidence implies that targeting the quorum sensing system of many pathogenic bacteria is a promising therapeutic approach to control infections. In this work,we isolated 47 strains of actinomycetes from the mud sample of Jiaozhou Bay. Quorum sensing inhibitory activity was monitored by Chromobacterium violaceum CV026. As a result, the culture broth extract of actinomycetes WA-7 was found to have significant quorum sensing inhibitory activity. This strain was assigned to the genus Streptomyces based on its 16S rDNA sequence. Further investigation revealed that the extract could inhibit the quorum sensing-controlled violacein and proteases production of C. violaceum in a concentration-dependent manner.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effects and mechanisms of sodium ferutate (SF) in treating diabetic nephropathy (DN).
METHODSEighty patients of diabetes mellitus type 2 with DN were randomly divided into two groups, 40 cases in each group. The routine group treated with conventional treatment including dietary therapy and hypodermic injection of insulin, and the SF group treated with intravenous dripping of SF 300 mg/d additionally besides the conventional therapy, the therapeutic course for both groups was 4 weeks. And 40 healthy volunteers were allocated in a group for normal control. Before and after therapy, levels of fasting blood glucose (FBG), hemoglobin A1c(HbA1c), triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), high-density lipoprotein (HDL-C), serum creatinine (SCr), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), mean arterial pressure (MAP), urinary albumin excretion rate (UAER), serum collagen type IV (CIV) and endothelin (ET) were detected.
RESULTSAfter 4 weeks of treatment, FBG and HbA1c reduced obviously in both groups with insignificant difference in comparison of them (P > 0.05). Before treatment, TG, TC, MAP, SCr, BUN, UAER, CIV and ET were markedly higher in DN patients than those in the health control (P < 0.05), these criteria decreased significantly in the SF group (P < 0.05) but insignificantly in the routine group (P > 0.05) after treatment, showing difference between the two groups (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONSodium ferulate could ameliorate lipid metabolic disorder, reduce blood pressure, lower UAER and CIV level, and improve renal function in DN patients, the mechanism might be through decreasing ET production and inhibiting the combining of ET with its receptor.

Severe tricuspid regurgitation with permanent pacemaker wire passing through the orifice of bioprosthetic tricuspid valve is extremely rare. We present a case of such kind of patient and redid bioprosthetic tricuspid valve replacement. A hawk mouth forceps for bone surgery was used to cut off the mental ring of ruined bioprosthetic tricuspid valve and the ruined valve was removed. A new bioprosthetic tricuspid valve was implanted and the wire of permanent pacemaker was left outside the ring of bioprosthetic tricuspid valve. This method may be helpful for such kind of patient.

Chinese Journal of Medical Genetics 2004;21(2):184-186
OBJECTIVETo know the genotype and allele frequency distribution of D1S549, D3S1754 and D12S375 in Chinese Han population in the Qingdao area and to study the three short tandem repeat(STR) loci for genetic application.
METHODSACD-blood specimens were collected from the unrelated individuals in Qingdao. The DNA samples were extracted with the use of Chelex method and were amplified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique. The PCR products were analyzed by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and were visualized by silver staining.
RESULTSEight alleles were found at D1S549 locus, eight alleles at D3S1754 locus and five alleles at D12S375 locus, and 22, 19 and 14 genotypes were identified respectively. No deviation from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium was observed in the three loci. The heterozygosities expected of them were 0.7988, 0.7087 and 0.75 respectively. The exclusion probability was calculated as 0.6592 for D1S549, and 0.5605 for D3S1754, and 0.5864 for D12S375. The discriminating power of the three loci were 0.9143, 0.8382 and 0.8861. Comparison of the allelic frequencies in Qingdao area with those in Hans of Chengdu area by chi-square test showed a difference statistically significant at D1S549 locus but no difference at D3S1754 and D12S375 loci.
CONCLUSIONThis study reveals the structure of the three loci and the obtained data are beneficial to understanding the population genetics in Chinese Han population. All of the three loci have higher chance of exclusion and higher discriminating power, and they will be useful markers for individual identification, paternity test and genetics purposes.

Chinese Journal of Medical Instrumentation 2002;26(5):339-341
The complex field cure instrument is a new medical instrument with which an experiment was carried out. Rats were continuously irradiated by the complex field for 90 days, with a day's total dose of 285.9 M.T.G. while other rats weren't irradiated for control group. The animals were respectively killed at 7d, 14d, 30d, 60d and 90d, and their blood samples were taken for cell and humoral immune analysis. The results show that values of lymphocyte transform rate, soluble receptor (SIL-2R), total hemolytic complement levels (CH50) and immunoglobulin (A.G.) after irradiation are more than those of the control group having proved that the instrument may improve immune function of rats.

Chinese Journal of Pediatrics 2003;41(2):107-109
OBJECTIVEFamilial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is an autosomal dominant disease with an estimated worldwide prevalence of 0.2%. It is caused by a multitude of low density lipoprotein receptor gene mutations. It is characterized with high levels of total cholesterol (TC), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and a high incidence of coronary artery disease in young adults. Cord blood cholesterol concentration is used for mass screening of FH. The purpose of this study was to detect the lipid levels of cord blood in newborn infants from China and to determine the cut-off point after 1 to 2 years follow-up.
METHODSTC, triglycerides (TG), LDL-C and high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) were determined in 242 healthy full-term newborn infants.
RESULTSThe mean values of TC, TG, LDL-C and HDL-C in cord blood were (1.69 +/- 0.40) mmol/L, (0.23 +/- 0.12) mmol/L, (0.81 +/- 0.21) mmol/L and (0.58 +/- 0.16) mmol/L (mean +/- standard deviation), respectively. The HDL-C concentration in male neonates was lower than that in female neonates (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONAfter the follow-up of 1 to 2 years for FH, the recommended screening cut-off points were TC > or = 2.47 mmol/L and LDL-C > or = 0.89 mmol/L.
