Virologica Sinica 2001;16(1):11-14
Sucking mice, 2~3 day after birth, were intraperiton eally inoculated with 0.05mL F1M10 of Chen Strain Hantaan virus. At diff erent t ime point after inoculation, the brains were taken, routinely fixed and embedded in paraffin for preparing 5 μm serial sections. Traditional and confocal immun ochemical detection of viral antigens and heat shock protein 70 were performed t o exp lore the cerebral stress response after viral infection. The results showed that HSP70 immunoreactivities could be stably detected in the viral antigen positive neurons, but not in the viral antigen negative or uninfected control tissues. B y confocal microscopic examination, the HSP70 and viral antigens were colocolize d in the neuronal cytoplasm. Our result, comparable to our previous findings in human tissues and culture cells, indicated that Hantavirus infection can induce the expression of HSP70 in the infected cells, and HSP70 expression might be n ecessary but not sufficient to keep the cell survival.

Objective To explore the characteristics of food preferences in children with autism spectrum disorder,in order to provide some reference for treating the odd diet habits. Methods Comparing food selection styles through a self-made parents questionnaire including 113 kinds of common food in six categories in China in 162 cases of neurotypical children (NC) and 162 cases of children with autism (AC) to investigate the food preference characteristics of autistic children. Results Compared with NC,AC had narrow food repertoire in grain (NC refuse 0.0(1.0),AC refuse 1.0(2.0),P<0.001),beans(NC refuse 0.0(1.0),AC refuse 1.0(2.0),P< 0.05),meat (NC refuse 0.0 (0.0),AC refuse 0.0 (2.0),P< 0.05),vegetables (NC refuse 3.0 (5.0),AC refuse 6.0(1.0),P<0.001) and fruits(NC refuse 0.0(1.0),AC refuse 2.0(5.0),P<0.001).There was no difference in the food preferences in neurotypical children of different gender. However,AC boys were more selective in the grain (NA girls refuse 0.0 (1.0),AC boys refuse 1.0 (2.0),P< 0.05) and vegetables (NA girls refuse 3.5 (5.0),AC boys refuse 7.0(11.0),P<0.05) than AC girls. Moreover,AC had higher preference to lower acceptance in most of food than NC,but not instant noodles(NC acceptance 71.01%,AC acceptance 81.02%,P<0.05) and chilli (NC acceptance 20.71%,AC acceptance 28.47%,P<0.05).Conclusion Compared with NC,AC have narrower food repertoire. On the other hand,AC have significantly higher acceptance of stimulating food like chili and instant noodle.

Objective To observe any effect of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) on pul monary function, airflow obstruction, dyspnea, exercise capacity and levels of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in the sputum of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).Methods Thirty patients with stage Ⅰ or Ⅱ COPD were randomly divided into a treatment group and a control group with 15 cases in each.TENS applied at the Feishu acupuncture point (BL13) was used in the treatment group, while sham stimulation of the same point without current output was used in the control group. The treatment was administered 40 minutes once daily,5 days a week for a total of 4 weeks. The outcome measures were measured before and after 4 weeks of treatment. Results FVC,FEV1,FEV1%,and peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR) all improved significantly in the treatment group after 4 weeks of treatment. After treatment, the average TNF-α level in induced sputum and exercise capacity as indicated by the average BODE index had both improved significantly in the treatment group.Compared with the control group, pulmonary function,TNF-α and the BODE index in the treatment group were all significantly better. There was no significant difference in pulmonary function,BODE index or TNF-α before and after treatment in the control group. Conclusion TENS at the Feishu acupoint can reduce airway inflammation, improve pulmonary function and exercise capacity, and decrease TNF-α levels in patients with stage Ⅰ or Ⅱ COPD.This treatment should be very useful for enhancing their ability in the activities of daily living.
