1.Improvement of Health Awareness among Pharmacy Students through Holding a Women's Health Care Cafe

In Japan, there are insufficient measures to ensure that women can maintain good health while working. In addition, many women have limited health literacy, making it difficult for them to access information on physical and mental health problems that are specific to them. In this context, it is essential for pharmacists to become the first point of contact for women seeking information about their physical health, as they are familiar with healthcare providers in the community. To address this issue, we organized a Women's Health Care Cafe for pharmacy students to provide them with an opportunity to learn about women's health.
2.Online Workshop to Improve Telemedicine and Medication Counseling Skills in Diabetes Care

In the field of diabetes mellitus, medical practice and medication counseling that elicits self-management by patients are desired. Thus, the improvement of communication skills of healthcare professionals and adopting an interdisciplinary approach to diabetes patients are considered important.In the COVID-19 pandemic era, the adoption of telemedicine and remote medication counseling to actual clinical practice has become an important issue; however, training opportunities for the skills required, especially in the diabetes field, are scarce. Therefore, we held an online training session for healthcare professionals to improve their telemedicine and remote medication counseling skills.
3.Compliance and discontinuation of denosumab treatment in postmenopausal Japanese women with primary osteoporosis or rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to examine the discontinuation and occurrence of fracture during denosumab treatment in Japanese women with primary osteoporosis or rheumatoid arthritis (RA) with osteoporosis. METHODS: This retrospective study included 143 patients with primary osteoporosis and 96 patients with RA and osteoporosis who were treated with denosumab. Treatment discontinuation, fracture occurrence, lumbar spine (L1–4) bone mineral density (LS-BMD), and bilateral total hip BMD (TH-BMD) were examined before and at 1 and 2 years after treatment commencement. RESULTS: In the primary osteoporosis group, 32 cases dropped out and no fractures occurred from 0 to 1 year. Eighteen cases were lost to follow-up and no fractures were noted from 1 to 2 years. In the RA with osteoporosis group, 7 cases dropped out and no fracture occurred from 0 to 1 year. Twenty-one cases were lost to follow-up and 2 nonvertebral fractures were noted from 1 to 2 years. In this group, 13 cases dropped out from 1 to 2 years and 16 cases dropped out during the 2-year study period due to economic reasons. LS-BMD and TH-BMD values increased continuously for 2 years of treatment in both primary osteoporosis and RA with osteoporosis groups. CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest that during denosumab therapy, the discontinuation rate is expected to remain low during 2 years of treatment in primary osteoporotic patients. In RA patients with osteoporosis, however, the discontinuation rate may increase due to economic reasons from 1 to 2 years of therapy.

4.Achievement of Insulin Reduction and Rapid Stabilization of Blood Sugar by Administering Insulin and GLP-1 Receptor Agonist in Type 2 Diabetes

A 63-year-old woman was admitted with complaints of thirst and polyuria about 1 year after ceasing therapy in November, X and in October, X+1. Her blood glucose levels at the beginning of her admissions were 347 at the first admission and 486 at the second admission. We administered glargine, a long-acting type insulin, 8U/day, and a short-acting insulin, glulisine, 4U/day, during the first admission. We administered glargine, a long-acting type insulin, 4U/day, and a short-acting insulin, glulisine, 3U/day, during the second admission. We also administered a GLP-1 receptor agonist, liraglutide, 0.3mg/day. Blood glucose levels (mg/dl) during the 5 days of the first admission were as follows: first, -, -, 347, and 180; second, 273, 266, 109, and 188; third, 75, 192, 186, and 182; fourth, 93, 194, 91, and 144; fifth, 78, 95, 124, and 127. In the second admission, blood glucose levels were as follows: first, -, -, 486, and 299; second: 140, 137, 195, and 128; third: 101, 122, 114, and 108; fourth: 101, 123, 123, and 137; and fifth, 89, 136, 111, and 129. CGM data showed an average of 128mg/dl and standard deviation of 34 during the first admission. CGM data showed an average of 125mg/dl and standard deviation of 20 during the second admission. The reduction of insulin and rapid flattening of blood sugar were achieved by GLP-1 receptor agonist with promotion of insulin secretion and suppression of glucagon secretion.
5.Managing general anesthesia for low invasive dental procedures while maintaining spontaneous respiration with low concentration remifentanil: a cross-sectional study

Background:
We assessed the relationship between patient age and remifentanil dosing rate in patients managed under general anesthesia with spontaneous breathing using low-dose remifentanil in sevoflurane.
Methods:
The participants were patients with an American Society of Anesthesiologists Physical Status of 1 or 2 maintained under general anesthesia with low-dose remifentanil in 1.5-2.0% sevoflurane. The infusion rate of remifentanil was adjusted so that the spontaneous respiratory rate was half the rate prior to the induction of anesthesia, and γH (µg/kg/min) was defined as the infusion rate of remifentanil under stable conditions where the respiratory rate was half the rate prior to the induction of anesthesia for ≥ 15 minutes. The relationship between γH and patient age was analyzed statistically by Spearman's correlation analysis.
Results:
During dental treatment under general anesthesia using low-dose remifentanil in sevoflurane, a significant correlation was detected between γH and patient age. The regression line of y = − 0.00079 x + 0.066 (y-axis; γH , x-axis; patient's age) was provided. The values of γH provide 0.064 µg/kg/min at 2 years and 0.0186 µg/kg/min at 60 years. Therefore, as age increases, the dosing rate exhibits a declining trend. Furthermore, in the dosing rate of remifentanil when the patient's respiratory rate was reduced by half from the preanesthetic respiratory rate, the dosing rate provided was around 0.88 mL/h in all ages if the remifentanil was diluted as 0.1 mg/mL. EtCO2 showed 51.0 ± 5.7 mmHg, and SpO2 was controlled within the normal range by this method. In addition, all dental treatments were performed without major problems, such as awakening and body movement during general anesthesia, and the post-anesthetic recovery process was stable.
Conclusion
General anesthesia with spontaneous breathing provides various advantages, and the present method is appropriate for minimally invasive procedures.
6.Evaluation of Publicity Activities to the COVID-19 Website for Community Pharmacists

Objective: The worldwide spread of the COVID-19 pandemic since 2020 led to a lack of information even at Japanese pharmacies, which are at the forefront of community medicine. Therefore, the Kyoto University Graduate School of Public Health Pharmacy Information Group has developed information materials related to COVID-19 for pharmacies0and released them on the COVID-19 countermeasure website, which was launched in haste. However, these days in the information society, the amount of information distributed is explosively expanding. Therefore, it is not possible to reach the target people just by publishing the countermeasure website. Therefore, we set up a public relations team to carry out publicity activities for pharmacists and analyzed the effectiveness of these activities by focusing on changes in the number of page views (PV) on the countermeasure website.Methods: PV and public relations(Facebook, industry media , e-mail) activities during the first 18 days(EARLY period), which is half of the total PV, and the remaining 164 days(MIDDLE period), covering 182 days from the day before the countermeasure website was opened. The changes in quantity were compared. Furthermore, we also compared the changes in the level of interest in the new coronavirus during the target period using Google Trends.Results: PV was remarkably large in the EARLY period, and the amount of public relations activity was generally concentrated in the EARLY period and PV. The number of searches for related words on Google Trends was almost the same as PV except for some. Conclusion: The study revealed the importance of establishing a pandemic countermeasure website for pharmacists at an appropriate time and conducting intensive public relations activities in the early stages.
