A modified rapid microprocedure for the determination of VE in serum, was described. VE reduced Fe3+ to Fe2+ and then the Fe2+ combined with bathophenanthroline to form a pink complex -which could be determined spect-rophotometrically. As little as 0.3ml (or 0.2ml) of serum or plasma sample was sufficient for determination. The reproducibility of this method was good. The CV was 4.1% (n=15). The recoveries of added VE (0.8, 0.2 and 1.6 mg/dl) were 86.3-102.5%. The mean value and SD of 99 normal adults were 1.15+ 0.31mg/dl. This spectrophotometric method was simple and could be used in common, laboratories. Some affecting frctors were discussed.

Objective To determine the median effective dosage of 0.5% ropivacaine for ultrasoundguided lateral popliteal sciatic nerve block. Methods Twenty-three ASA Ⅰ or Ⅱ patients of both sexes, aged 19-20 yr weighing 52-90 kg received lateral popliteal nerve block guided with ultrasound for foot and ankle surgery. The volume of 0.5% ropivacaine injected was determined by the response of the previous patient using an up-anddown technique. The initial volume was 18 ml. Each time the volume increased/decreased by 2 ml.Successful nerve block was defined as complete loss of pinprick sensation in both tibial and common peroneal nerve distribution with concomitant inability to perform plantar or dorsal flexion of the foot 30 min after injection. Results The median effective dosage of 0.5% ropivacaine resulting in complete block of the sciatic nerve in 50% patients was 13 ml (95% confidence interval 11.3-14.9 ml). Conclusion The median effective dosage of 0.5% ropivacaine for ultrasound-guided lateral popliteal sciatic nerve is 13.0 ml.

Objective To investigate the effects of electroacupuncture at Sanyinjiao (SP6) and Yinlingquan (SP9) on muscle repair in the gastrocnemius muscle damaged rats and its possible mechanism. Methods 30 male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into blank group (n=10), model group (n=10) and electroacupuncture group (n=10). The latter 2 groups were modeled with gastrocnemius muscle crush injury. The electroacupuncture group received electroacupuncture at Sanyinjiao and Yinlingquan for 14 days. Their gastrocnemius was observed with HE staining, and the expressions of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) in gastroc-nemius tissues and the serum were determined with immunochemical assay and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Results Compared with the model group, there was less damage in the electroacupuncture group, with more expression of bFGF and IGF-1 in tis-sues (P<0.01) and serum (P<0.05). Conclusion Electroacupuncture can promote muscle repair after gastrocnemius muscle damage in rats, which may be related to the increase of the bFGF and IGF-1 expression in gastrocnemius tissue and serum.

OBJECTIVE To mine adverse drug event (ADE) signals related to baloxavir marboxil, and to provide reference for clinically safe drug use. METHODS The ADE signals related to baloxavir marboxil from January 1, 2018 to May 31, 2022 in the US FDA adverse event reporting system (FAERS) were mined using the proportional reporting odds ratio (PRR) method. ADE with report number≥3, PRR≥2 and χ2≥4 was defined as a positive signal, and PRR method was used to analyze the ADE signal. RESULTS A total of 1 424 ADE reports with baloxavir marboxil as the main suspected drug were collected, involving 460 ADE signals. The femininity and patient under 18 years old were reported more, the country with the highest number of reports was the United States, and the main indication of drug reported was influenza. A total of 37 ADE positive signals were obtained after PRR calculation and screening exclusion, the first three ADE signals in the list of the reported number were diarrhea, vomiting and immediate hypersensitivity, and the first three ADE signals in the list of PRR value were febrile delirium, ischaemic colitis and hemorrhagic cystitis. Compared with the instructions of baloxavir marboxil, 18 ADE signals had not yet been included, such as abnormal liver function, hematuria, hemorrhagic cystitis, etc. Five new SOCs were involved, such as kidney and urinary system diseases, hepatobiliary system diseases, investigations, nervous system disorders and musculoskeletal and connective tissue disorders. CONCLUSIONS When clinical application of baloxavir marboxil, in addition to the adverse drug reactions mentioned in the drug instructions, attention should be paid to abnormal liver function, hematuria, hemorrhagic cystitis, etc, so as to guarantee the safety of drug use.

Objective To observe the effects of electro-acupuncture (EA) at “Weizhong” (BL40) on expressions of Fas and FasL in rat models with lumbar disc degeneration; To discuss its mechanism of action.MethodsThirty SD rats were randomly divided into sham-operationgroup, model group and EA group, with 10 rats in each group. The sham-operation group was treated with sham operation to incide local skin; the model and EA groups established rat model of lumbar disc degeneration by puncturing the annulus fibrosus. Four weeks after modeling, rats in the sham-operation and model groups received fixed treatment under identical condition, and rats in the EA group were treated with EA at “Weizhong” (BL40) in 20 minutes, once a day, for 4 weeks. After treatment, Western blot and RT-PCR technology were used to test the protein and mRNA expression levels of Fas and FasL.ResultsThe expressions of Fas and FasL in the model group were higher than those in the sham-operation group (P<0.05); protein and mRNA expression levels of Fas and FasL in the EA group were lower than those in the model group (P<0.05). ConclusionEA at “Weizhong” (BL40) can reduce the expressions of Fas and FasL to inhibit the development of lumbar disc degeneration.
