One hundred and six men aged >60 years were assigned to Group A (60 to 69 years old, n=33), Group B (70 to 79 years old, n=38) or Group C ( >80 years old, n =35), respectively. Serum testosterone, broadband ultrasound attenuation (BUA), speed of sound (SOS) , and stiffness (STI) were determined. Our results showed that as age increased, serum testosterone, BUA, SOS and STI decreased; serum testosterone was positively correlated with BUA ( r=0.62, P<0.05 ) and SOS ( r=0.54, P<0.05 ). We thus suggest that serum testosterone in elderly men might be closely related with bone mineral density.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI)has been classified as mild, moderate,or severe,on the basis of the Glasgow coma scale (GCS)score.Mild TBI is estimated to account for 90% of all cases of TBI, and it has become a serious public health problem, with morbidity increasing year by year.At present, there is a lack of accepted uniform definition of mild TBI.Clinically, mild TBI and concussion are interchangeable terms. In recent years, advances in brain imaging, biomarkers determination, and neuropathology have encouraged people to revise and update their knowledge about mild TBI.In view of the high prevalence of mild TBI in the emergency and community, and the absence of the data concerning the long-term effects of mild TBI, further research is needed about how to reduce morbidity and costs, alleviate delayed consequences, and develop evidence-based interventions to improve outcomes.

As color doppler ultrasound listed as the thyroid to regular physical examination project, the positive detection rate of benign and malignant thyroid diseases has increased year by year. The population of patients after thyroid surgery is getting larger and larger, however, the research on how to replace the absent thyroid with exogenous thyroid hormone is not perfect. As the switch of thyroid hormone activation and deactivation, deiodinase plays an important role in maintaining the internal environment of human body. The expression of these enzymes will change with the different needs of each organ in the individual. In the past, many authors have made a detailed description of deiodinase in basic medicine, but the principle of action in clinical aspects is relatively lacking. In this paper, the mechanism of deiodinase was reviewed through literature reading, to explore the basic principle of deiodinase in exogenous thyroid hormone supplementation after thyroid surgery.

Chinese Journal of Experimental Ophthalmology 2024;42(9):858-861
Peripapillary hyperreflective ovoid mass-like structure (PHOMS) is a novel imaging feature newly defined in recent years in the study of optic disc drusen (ODD).In OCT images, it shows an oval hyper-reflective signal on the Bruch membrane around the optic papilla, ring or crescent non-fluorescence in autofluorescence, and light gray peripapillary elevations around the optic disc in non-red infrared images. There is no conclusive evidence as to whether PHOMS is a subtype or precursor of ODD.Histopathologically, PHOMS might correspond to the lateral bulging or herniation of distended axons into the peripapillary retina.Since there may be different pathological properties between PHOMS and ODD in histology, there are different imaging features in multimodal imaging. To make the diagnosis of ODD more accurate, the Optic Disc Drusen Studies Consortium recommends that PHOMS be distinguished from ODD.PHOMS is mainly differentiated from ODD and perioptic vessels on OCT.It can be seen in many diseases such as ODD, optic papilledema, non-arteritis anterior ischemic optic neuropathy, multiple sclerosis, central retinal vein occlusion, pediatric tilted disc syndrome, isolated optic neuritis and optic atrophy, and is an important cause of pseudopapilloedema in children. This article summarizes the origin, imaging features, differential diagnosis and related diseases of PHOMS, to increase domestic researchers' understanding of the structure of PHOMS, enhance the differential diagnosis between PHOMS and ODD, and provide a reference for clinical research and diagnosis.

PURPOSE: The aim was to study the masking ability of high-translucency monolithic zirconia and provide guidance in selecting resin luting cements in order to mask discolored substrates. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 160 high-translucency zirconia specimens were divided into 32 groups depending on their thickness and shades. Using five shades of try-in paste, the specimens were luted onto the sub strates (Co-Cr, precious-metal, opaque porcelain-sintered Co-Cr, opaque porcelain-sintered precious-metal, and 5M3-shade zirconia). All CIELAB color parameters were measured and statistically analyzed. RESULTS: Zirconia shade and thickness and try-in paste shade affected CIELAB color parameters (P=.000) in different substrates groups, and there were interactions among these factors (P=.000). All five try-in paste shades can be chosen to achieve ΔE values of zirconia with 1.2 – 1.5 mm for masking dark-tooth-like 5M3-shade and zirconia with 1.5 mm for masking precious-metal groups < 2.6. Only suitable try-in paste shades were used, can ΔE values that less than 2.6 be achieved when applied translucent monolithic zirconia with 0.7–1.0 mm for masking dark-tooth-like 5M3-shade and zirconia with 0.7 – 1.2 mm for masking precious-metal groups. CONCLUSION: Choosing suitable resin cement shades is necessary for high-translucency monolithic zirconia to achieve ideal masking ability (ΔE < 2.6) on the dark-tooth.
