Testicular regression syndrome may be better known as vanishing testis syndrome to physicians. Such individuals are genetically male(46,XY), presenting with unilateral or bilateral absence of recognizable testis structures and absence of the Mullerian duct system. There is a wide spectrum of phenotypes depending on the stage of male embryogenesis at which testicular function ceased. We experienced a case of testicular regression syndrome presenting labial fusion at birth and report with the brief review of related literature.

The carpal scaphoid is the commonest of the carpal bones to be fractured, and this injury is the commonest to befall the wrist of working man. There is still some disaggrement as to the optimum treatment and as to how long immobilization should be maintained. The twenty seven cases of the carpal scaphoid were treated at department of orthopaedic surgery, Maryknoll Hospital. They were analyzed in regared to the clinical and radiological aspects. The results were summarized as follows. l. Of 27 cases 24 cases were in the age group 20 to 39, and all cases were male patients. 2. In 17 cases, the fracture was found in right side. 3. In 19 cases (70.4%), the fracture was found on the middle 1/3 of the carpal scaphoid and in 18 cases(66.8%), the fracture line was transverse. 4. The union rate of fracture was 100% in the distal 1/3 fracture, 89.5% in the middle 1/3 fracture and 66.3% in the proximal fracture. The average period of immobilization were 10.3, 14.9 and 15.3 weeks respectively. 5. By Maudsley's assessment, the end result was good in all cases of the distal 1/3 fracture, 84.2% in the middle 1/3 fracture and 66.7% in the proximal 1/3 fracture. 6. Traumatic arthritis developed in 3 cases, avascular ncerosis in 7 cases, nonunion in 4 cases.

The authors present that was diagnosed late panophthalmitis histopathologically and that was a case of 17 scheie's filtering operated eyes during last 2 years. The patient was 63 year-old male who had chronic narrow angle glaucoma associated with moderate optic nerve cupping and atrophy in both eyes a year ago. Good filtering bleb showed and intraocular pressure controlled well normally after Scheie's operation in right eye. One year and five months later acute suppurative endophtbalmitis occured in operated eye during catarrhal conjunctivitis in both eyes. The authors concluded that the route of infection was filtering fleb. Culture of excreting pus through ruptured filtering fleb was negative.

Diabetic Neuropathies*

PURPOSE: The aim of study was to review the results of open surgical repair (OSR) of chronic juxtarenal aortic occlusion (JRAO). MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the results of OSR performed in 47 patients (male, 92%; mean age, 59.9+/-9.3 years [range, 44-79]) with chronic JRAO during the past 21 years. In order to reduce intraoperative renal ischemic time (RIT), we excised a portion of the occluded segment of the infrarenal aorta without proximal aortic clamping. We then performed suprarenal aortic clamping with both renal arteries clamped, removed the proximal aortic thrombus cap, confirmed both renal artery orifices, and moved the suprarenal aortic clamp to the infrarenal aorta to allow renal perfusion and standard aortoiliac reconstruction. We investigated early (<30 days) postoperative surgical morbidity (particularly renal function), operative mortality, and longterm patient survival. We conducted risk factor analysis for postoperative renal insufficiency. RESULTS: The mean intraoperative RIT was 10.7+/-5.5 minutes (range, 3-25), including 6 patients who underwent concomitant pararenal aortic thromboendarterectomy. Postoperatively, five (11%) patients had transient renal insufficiency, one had pneumonia, and one patient had an acute myocardial infarction. However, there was no operative mortality or newly developed dialysis-dependent renal failure. Postoperative follow up was available in 36 (77%) patients for a mean period of 6.3 years (range, 1 month-17 years). Kaplan Meier calculations of patient survival at 5 and 10 years after surgery were 91.2% and 83.6%, respectively. CONCLUSION: We have experienced short RIT, acceptable early postoperative results and long-term survival after OSR of chronic JRAO.

Kimura's disease is an uncommon, chronic inflammatory disorder of unknown etiology that is seen in an endemic form in the Orient. It usually presents as a mass in the subcutaneous tissue of the head and neck region or the major salivary glands, and is often associated with a regional lymphadenopathy. The patients have peripheral blood eosinophilia and elevated IgE levels but are otherwise usually healthy. We encountered the case of a 33-year-old man who had a soft tissue mass in his left distal arm which was diagnosed as being Kimura's disease.
