1.A Clinical Study for Topical Vitamin A Acid Derivative in Acne Vulgaris.
Korean Journal of Dermatology 1978;16(1):41-47
Many modalities for the treatment of acne vulgaris have been introduced, but the results of the treatment were variable and unsatisfactory. In 1969, Kligman ct al reported that vitamin A acid was one of the mot effective raembers of the topical therapeutics for ance than any other topical remedies. But the undesirable side effects of vitamin A acid limit its use, and so we us instead of vitamin A acid for minimizing of possible side effects The results are as follows: 1. The total number of skin eruption progressively diminished after treatment with topical vitamin A acid derivatives and we found significant diminution on fourth week, and the effectiveness of the total patients was 73.7%. 2. The number of papules and closed comedories progressively diminished after treatment, but that of open corzelones slightly increased on first week of the treatment and diminished thereafter. 3. The number of pustules too few to evaluate with statistical analysis, but newly developed pustules noted speciaelly in first and second weeks wit.h unpredictable courses 4. The frequent, undesirable side effects were scale, buming & stinging and erythemas in order of frequeny, but other side effeccs auch as itching, tightness, pain, and pigmentation also noted in a few patients but the side effect.s were mild. So we considered the effectiveness of vitamin A acid derivatives were as good as those of vit, amin A acid, but the undesirable side effects of vitamin A acid. derivatives were less severe than those of vitamin A acirl.

BACKGROUND: A healthy diet is important for the prevention and management of major chronic diseases including cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and obesity. However, the effect of dietary intervention-based education and consultation has not been satisfactory. This study sought to investigate the effects of a diet intervention supplying food directly to the workplace cafeteria. METHODS: Study subjects included 36 employees (23 men) staffed at two companies located in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. Participants were supplied with liquid meals made mainly with fruits and vegetables for breakfast and dinner. Lunch was supplied as well and comprised of a balanced diet. Consumption of other foods, except water and provided snacks, were prohibited. The program also included light exercise, yoga, and mind-body control for 20 minutes, three times a week. Changes in anthropometric and metabolic parameters were evaluated. RESULTS: None of the subjects complained of serious adverse effects or dropped out of the program. Post-intervention mean body weight and body fat mass decreased significantly (-3.3 kg and -2.0 kg respectively, p<0.001 for both comparisons). There were additional reductions in systolic blood pressure (-6.7 mmHg, p<0.001), fasting glucose (-9.0 mg/dL, p<0.001), total cholesterol (-13.9 mg/dL, P=0.005), triglyceride (-44.0 mg/dL, p<0.001), and insulin (-2.4 uIU/mL, P=0.007). The satisfaction rate of the program was 88%. CONCLUSIONS: This study showed that a diet intervention supplying food directly to the workplace cafeteria could succeed in decreasing body weight and improving metabolic parameters, most likely due to high compliance.

A study was made in the congenital anomalies in 137 babies born to 120 mothers with hydramnios, delivered at Ilsin Christian Hospital between Jan. 1st 1981 and Dec. 31th 1990. The results were as follows; 1) The incidence of hydramnios was 1.6/1000 deliveries, 120 cases in total 73, 129 deliveries. 137 infants was born and of these 71 (51.8%) had congenital anomalies. 2) Hydramnios was assiciated with a high incidence of prematurity and low birth weight infant. 3) The incience of multiple anomalies was 54.9% (39 out of 71 infants). The most common system involved with the congenital anomalies was the musculoskeletal system, 28.9% (39 cases out of 135) and the most frequent anomaly was anencephaly, 15 cases. 4) The perinatal mortality rate was 759/1000 total (104 cases) and of these 45 cases, 43.3% were associated with congenital anomalies. 53 of the live birth had congenital anomalies and of these 27 cases (50.9%) died in the neonatal period.

6.The Effects of Hand Massage in Patients Who Underwent Transradial Percutaneous Coronary Intervention.
Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing 2018;48(4):465-474
PURPOSE: This study aimed to determine the effect of hand massage in patients who underwent transradial percutaneous coronary intervention. METHODS: This was a quasi-experimental study with a nonequivalent control group and non-synchronized design. The study included 30 patients in the experimental group and 30 in the control group. Hand massage was performed 2 times for 5 minutes each in the experimental group and the control group only received usual nursing interventions. Pain, level of discomfort, and vital signs were defined as key outcome measures, and the data were analyzed using the chi-square test, an independent t-test, Mann-Whitney U test, repeated-measures analysis of variance, and Friedman test. RESULTS: Significant differences were observed between the 2 groups in the pain score (F=7.91, p=.003), discomfort score (F=18.15, p < .001), pulse (F=12.92, p < .001), and respiration rate (χ2=19.35, p < .001). CONCLUSION: Hand massage can be a helpful nursing intervention for transradial percutaneous coronary intervention by reducing pain and discomfort to a considerable degree.

Congenital lobar emphysema has the clinical features of an air block' syndrome with- out the evidence of pulmonary infection or intrabronchial foreign body. The hyperinflated lung causes a compression of uninvolved lobes creating respiratory distress, cyanosis within the first weeks of life. We experienced a case of congenital lobar emphysema diagnosed incidentally by chest reontgenogram in an infant with frequent upper respiratory infection within a few weeks of life. Chest X-ray revealed extensive emphysematous changes in the left upper lobe, shifting of heart and medistinum to the right and compression of the right lung. Respiratory distress, cyanosis and chest wall retraction ensued and left upper lobe Lobectomy was performed successfully.

The cytologic findings in fine needle aspiration of a case of myxoid liposarcoma of the mediastinum are described. The smear and cell block of the aspirate revealed solid clusters with background of amorphous material and scattered single tumor cells. The clusters were moderately cellular and consisted of atypical lipoblasts in varying stages of differentiation and delicate plexiform capillaries. Good correlation was found between the histologic and cytologic findings in the fine needle aspirates. The differential diagnosis between myxoid liposarcoma and other myxoid soft tissue tumors is discussed,

Hyalinizing trabecular adenoma is an uncommon benign thyroid tumor that is recently described in the literature. This tumor is easily confused with medullary carcinoma on surgical specimens and with papillay carcinoma on cytologic specimens. Herein we report the cytologic characteristics of a case of histologically proven hyalinizing trabecular adenoma of the thyroid gland. Cytologically, the aspirate showed trabecular or individually dispersed polygonal cells with finely stippled chromatin pattern, nuclear grooves, and eosinophilic nuclear pseudoinclusions. No colloid materials were noted in the background.

Journal of the Korean Academy of Family Medicine 2006;27(5):370-375
BACKGROUND: Recently, reinforcement and innovation of primary care has been propeled and family doctor registration program has been proposed as one of the solutions for the problem. The aim of this study was to understand the Korean population's perception concerning the need of the family doctor registration program. METHODS: The study subjects included 865 adults from 16 different cities who were applying for health insurance. The interview for study subjects was performed by 53 nurses during 3 months. The questionnaire was composed of questions eliciting general information about the subject, subject's perception on the necessity and the role of family doctor registration program, and on regarding services offered by the family physician. RESULTS: Seventy seven percent of the respondents were in favor of the family doctor registration program. The most importantly considered benefits of the program were medical examination, stress management, and management of chronic diseases. Sixty one percent of the respondents preferred internists as their family doctor, where as 42 percent preferred a family physician. Most people thought it was reasonable to pay 120,000 won per year as a registration fee. Services thought to be necessary by respondents were medical examination for family members, telephone call counselling, and physician's home visit. CONCLUSION: The results revealed that 77 percent of the subjects responded favorably towards the family doctor registration program. The most importantly considered benefits of the program were medical examination, stress management, and management of chronic diseases.
