2.THE RELATIONSHIP OF SERUM CALCIUM, MAGNESIUM, ZINC, AND COPPER BETWEEN MATERNAL AND CORD BLOOD
Acta Nutrimenta Sinica 1956;0(01):-
Serum calcium, magnesium, zinc, and copper were determined in 117 healthy pregnant women and their infants. Maternal and cord blood were collected at delivery and assayed by flame atomic absorption spectropho-tometry, and the data obtained were evaluated by regression analysis. The results suggested that the serum concentrations of calcium, magnesium, and zinc of maternal blood were significantly lower than that of cord blood. The concentrations of serum calcium and magnesium between maternal and cord blood were highly correlated, but not of serum zinc. The serum concentration of copper in maternal blood was significantly higher than that in cord blood, but there was nos ignificant correlation between them. The serum calcium of infants always maintained over 2.0mmol/L(8mg/dl), even when the serum calcium of pregnant women was lower than 2.0mmol/L (8mg/dl). This fact indicates that the fetus draw much calcium from mother for development, despite calcium in the mother being depleted.

Acta Nutrimenta Sinica 1956;0(01):-
Ocular signs and serum vitamin A concentration are commonly used tor the diagnosis of vitamin A deficiency. Recently, impression cytology was suggested as a method for early detection of vitamin A status. Twenty patients with normal eyes and digestive disease, and 111 children with normal eyes were evaluated by serum vitamin A concentration, relative-dose-response and conjunctival impression cytology test. About 90% of the patients with normal conjunctival impression cytology has normal vitamin A status. About 70% of the patients with abnormal conjunctival impression cytology has abnormal vitamin A status despite their seemingly normal clinical ocular examination, and so did the children. These results suggest that impression cytology can identify individuals with preclinical vitamin A deficiency.

Objective To present the clinical effect of dorsal carpometacarpal island flap with fascia, vessel and nerve to repair soft tissue defected. Methods The island flap was designed with root of fascia, dorsal metalcarpals artery and nerve. The flap to soft tissue defected in the nearby area was applied, including 30 cases in the last segment of thumb, 4 cases in the first segment of thumb, 1 case in the IP articulation of thumb, 1 case in the first segment of middle finger, 1 case in the carpometacarpal dorsal area and 1 case in the back of index finger. Results Thirty-eight cases were survived. All cases obtained good appearance and sensory recovery approach normally with little affection in supply area. Conclusions This method has advantage of simple, practical, high survive rate, low impairment, sensible and good appearance.

Chickens were infected with chicken anemia virus (CAV) at one-day-old and vaccinated with La Sota vaccine 8 days later. Meanwhile, uninfected chickens were vaccinated as controls. At 7, 14 and 28 days post vaccination, the content of IgG,IgM,IgA and HI titer in serum, the number of T cells, IgG, IgM and IgA antibody producing cells in thymus, bursa and spleen, the proliferative response of T、B cells, the inductive activity of interleukin 2 (IL-2) and interferon (IFN) in thymus and spleen were tested. The results showed that the content of IgG, IgM, IgA and hemoagglutination inhibition (HI) titer in serum, the number of T cells, IgG, IgM and IgA antibody producing cells in thymus, bursa and spleen, the proliferative response of T cells and B cells as well as the inductive activity of IL-2 and IFN in thymus and spleen of infected-vaccinated chickens significantly decreased compared with the control. These results indicated that the immunofunction and immunoregulation were dropped post ND vaccination of CAV-infected chickens.

Objective To evaluate the effect of open reduction and internal fixation in treatment of calcaneal fractures in aged patients. Methods Between January 1997 and June 2007,37 patients (41 fractures)at a mean age of68.3 years(60-78 years)with calcaneal fractures underwent surgical operations.According to Sanders classification based on CT scanning.14 fractures were rated as typeⅡ,18 as type Ⅲ and 9 as type Ⅳ.Of all,5 fractures were treated with reconstruction plate,18 with shapeable titanic plate,4 with Y-shaped plate,12 Depuy titanic plate and 2 with AO locking titanic plate plus open reduction and internal fixation. The foot function was evaluated by X-ray,American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society(AOFAS)Score and Maryland Foot Score. Results A total of 27 patients (60.9%)with 31 fractures were followed up for 12-48 months(average 27.6 months),which showed that all fractures were healed, with morphous improvement of the calcanus determined by 8 parameters measured in X-ray films. The average active range of motion was 36°of plantar flexion,12°of dorsiflexion,15°of inversion, and 10°of eversion.According to Maryland Foot Score, functional foot score was excellent(90-100 points)in 16 fractures,good(75-89 points)in 13 and fair(50-74 points)in 2,with excellence rate of 94%(29/31). Conclusion Open reduction and intemal fixation can gain good clinical result in severe calcaneal fractures in aged patients with obvious dislocation of posterior articular facet.
