Galectin-9 is a novel eosinophil chemoattractant,which belong to Galectin family.Galectin-9exhibits a variety of biological functions,such as cell differentiation,maturation,adhesion and aggregation,cell chemotaxis,activity,and cell death.Galectin-9 may play important roles in the development of acute inflammation as well as chronic inflammation associated with allergies,autoimmune diseases,infectious processes.This review summarizes the advances in Galectin-9 study.

Objective To investigate the changing trend of incidence and the relevant factors in fetal macrosomia. Methods 84 883 newborns during Jan. 1,1970 to Dec. 31,1999 were used to analyze the incidence of fetal macrosomia,the average birth weight,the percentage of superior fetal macrosomia, the distribution of gestational age, the rate of cesarean section and the vaginal delivery, the relevant factors of fetal macrosomia. Results All the cases were divided into 3 groups, one group from 1970 to 1979, the second one from 1980 to 1989, the third one from 1990 to 1999. Objective To investigate the infection prevention effect of prophylactic use of antibiotics for cancer inpatients with leukocyte count ≤ 1 × 109/L.Then to provide the basis for rational use of antibiotics.Methods It was retrospectively surveyed that the infection situation and prophylactic usage of antibiotics in the 426 cancer inpatients with leukocyte count ≤ 1 × 109/L caused by radiotherapy and chemotherapy.Results In the 426 inpatients,the infection rates of patients with and without prophylactic use of antibiotics were 11.0％ and 20.9％ respectively.The difference was statistically significant (x2 =6.815,P =0.009).The leukocyte count median values of patients with and without infection were 0.73 × 109/L and 0.77 × 109/L respectively.The difference had no statistical significance(Z =-1.257,P =0.209).The main infection sites were lower respiratory tract,upper respiratory tract and gastrointestinal tract with infection rates of 48％,12％ and 11％,respectively.The top five pathogens were Klebsiella pneumonia,Enterobacter cloacae,Escherichia coli,Enterobacter aerogenes and Staphylococcus aureus.The most use of antibiotics were cephalosporin.Conclusion When the leukocyte counts of cancer inpatients are less than or equal to 1 × 109/L induced by chemotherapy and radiotherapy,reasonable prophylactic use of antibiotics can reduce hospital infection rates.

Background The study on the classification of fungi is very important for the diagnosis and treatment of fungal keratitis.Identifying the different species of filamentous fungi is a critical factor for the application of anti-fungal drug in treating keratitis.ObjectiveThis report studies the relationship between the genotype of filamentous fungi and the clinical factors.MethodsFifty-two patients with filamentous fungal keratitis determined by clinical and laboratory examination were recruited in Tongren Hospital from January 2006-December 2006.The lesions were graded on the severity of the corneal ulcer and the presence of hypopyon.The filamentous fungal keratitis was treated with topical and systemic administration of anti-fungal drugs or corneal transplantation.The isolates were cultured in potato culture and identified by morphological characteristics based on the Nelson criterion and genotyped by the rDNA ITS method.The clinical data was retrospectively analyzed.ResultsForty-eight species (eubacteria are bacteria,not fungi)of fungus were identified by morphological characteristics,and the filamentous fungi were divided into 4 types based on the phylogenetic relationships within the rDNA ITS of the 52 filamentous fungi.The morphological characteristics and genotype were confirmed in 48 strains of eubacteria and 31 strains of 52 filamentous fungi (90.3%).The 4 groups of fungi were classified by genotype as follows:group 1 represents 22 strains including 20 strains of Fusarium solani and 2 strains of Fusarium oxysporum;group 2 represents 12 strains including 8 strains of Fusarium moniliformis,3 strains of Fusarium proliferatum and 1 strain of Fusarium incarnatum;group 3 represents 5 strains including 1 strain of Fusarium moniliformis and 4 unknown strains;group 4 represents 13 strains including 10 strains of Aspergillus spp.and 3 strains of Alternaria spp.Significant differences were found in the disease duration (P=0.00),inducing cause (P=0.03),ulcer grade (P=0.01)and outcome of the anti-fungal treatment (P=0.035)when compared between group 1 and 2 with group 3 and 4.Conclusion Filamentous fungi that cause keratitis could be correctly identified by sequencing the internal tanscribed spacer of rDNA.There are significant clinical differences among the groups classified by genotype.

Objective Trachoma is a preventable infective eye disease worldwide. The incidence rate of active trachoma in children can reflect the epidemical degree of trachoma in the location. This study tried to assess the prevalence and risk factors of trachoma in students at primary school in Wuqiang County, China. Methods An epidemiological survey was carried out in Wuqiang County in 2006. The investigators were from Wuqiang County Hospital and Beijing Tongren Eye Center and received special training. Primary school children aged 6- to 16-years-old were selected by a cluster sampling with the class shift as the sampling unit. Trachoma was clinically examined under the slim lamp and assessed based on the simplified classification for trachoma proposed by the World Health Organization (WHO). The C. Trachomatis inclusion body was detected from conjunctival swab of patients with trachoma using enzyme immunoassay and polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The questionnaire was performed in the examinees and parents. The survey followed the Declaration of Helsinki and written informed consent was obtained from the examinees. Results A total 379 cases with trachoma were determined in 1622 primary school examinees with the prevalence 23. 4% (95% CI:25. 5% -21. 3%) .including follicular trachoma in 81% and intense trachoma in 19% . The overall prevalence of trachoma was higher in female students than male ones (25. 8% versus 20. 9%, P = 0. 020). No inclusion body of the conjunctiva was observed. Sixty-four cases (38. 1%) presented the positive response for C. Trachomatis antigen by enzyme immunoassay, and 109 cases (64. 9%) were positive response by PCR. The multiple factors logistic regression analysis showed the risk factors for active trachoma included living location, suburbs and female and age(0R =0.763, 1.299, 1. 147 respectively). Conclusion Trachoma showes a disseminating procedure among primary school children in Wuqiang County. The prevention strategy should be made for related risk factors.

Micro RNAs (microRNAs,miRNAs) are non-coding,endogenous,small RNA molecules that regulate gene expression.MiRNAs are involved in the development of heart and blood vessels.The abnormal expression of miRNAs is associated with atherosclerosis,coronary heart disease,heart failure and hypertension.In recent years,a series of advances have been made in the study of coronary heart disease,hypertension,arrhythmia,heart failure,cardiovascular remodeling,heart development,and the functional control of myocardial cells,endothelial cells,smooth muscle cells.Viral myocarditis (VMC)is a common cardiovascular disease.The pathogenesis of VMC is not fully elucidated.VMC is mainly caused by coxsackie virus B3 (CVB3)infection.The research confirms that miRNAs are closely related to CVB3.MiRNAs are involved in the pathogenesis of VMC,which play an important role in the development of VMC.The research of miRNAs in the role in viral myocarditis will contribute to further understanding for the pathogenesis of myocarditis and highlighting new direction for the treatment of VMC.This paper reviews the relationship between miRNAs and CVB3,and the role of miRNAs in the pathogenesis of VMC.

Objective:To investigate the role of LncRNA-TUG1 in the injury of intestinal epithelial cells induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS).Methods:LPS was used to treat HIEC-6 human intestinal epithelial cells for 24 h to construct a sepsis injury model. Whole transcriptome RNA sequencing was used to analyze the expression changes of mRNA, microRNA and lncRNA in HIEC-6 cells after LPS treatment. Real-time fluorescence quantitative (qRT-PCR) and Western blot was performed to detect the expression changes of lncRNA-TUG1, microRNA-132-3p (miR-132-3p), SIRT1 mRNA and SIRT1 protein in HIEC-6 cells after LPS treatment. The expression levels of LncRNA-TUG1, miR-132-3p and SIRT1 were artificially changed by in vitro transfection. qRT-PCR and Western blot were used to confirm the regulatory effect of lncRNA-TUG1 on microRNA-132-3p and SIRT1. CCK-8 and flow cytometry were used to analyze the effects of LncRNA-TUG1, miR-132-3p and SIRT1 on the proliferation and apoptosis of HIEC-6 cells. The dual luciferase report analysis was used to verify the targeting relationship between LncRNA-TUG1, miR-132-3p and SIRT1. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 17.0, and differences between the two groups were compared using independent sample t test. Results:RNA sequencing results showed that the expressions of lncRNA-TUG1 and SIRT1 were decreased in HIEC-6 cells after LPS treatment ( t=3.26, P<0.05 and t=2.55, P<0.05), but the expression of miR-132-3p was increased ( t=4.12, P<0.05). In vitro cell experiments, the expression of lncRNA-TUG1 and SIRT1 were decreased in HIEC-6 cells treated with LPS ( t=5.69, P<0.05 and t=5.712, P<0.05), while the expression of miR-132-3p was increased ( t=3.88, P<0.05). Overexpression of lncRNA-TUG1 increased the proliferation rate ( t=6.55, P<0.05) and decreased the apoptosis rate ( t=3.94, P<0.05) of LPS-treated cells. Upregulation of lncRNA-TUG1 decreased the expression of miR-132-3p ( t=4.66, P<0.05), and increased the mRNA and protein levels of SIRT1 ( t=3.91, P<0.05). Transfection of miR-132-3P mimic could inhibit the mRNA ( t=4.08, P<0.05) and protein levels of SIRT1. In LPS-treated cells, the cells co-transfected with miR-132-3pmimic and siRNA-SIRT1 had a lower proliferation rate ( t=4.55, P<0.05 and t=5.67, P<0.05) and a higher apoptosis rate ( t=3.90, P<0.05 and t=4.22, P<0.05) than those transfected with only pcDNA3.1-lncRNA-TUG. Conclusions:lncRNA-TUG1 may act as a ceRNA to regulate miR-132-3p/SIRT1, therefore alleviating HIEC-6 cell injury caused by LPS. Intervention of lncRNA-TUG1/miR-132-3p/SIRT1 regulatory pathway may become a potential strategy to prevent sepsis-induced intestinal mucosal damage.

Objective To compare the bio-medical parameters in SIV infected Chinese rhesus monkeys with diverse disease progression,by which the pathogenesis of simian AIDS were to be investigated.Methods Sixteen Chinese rhesus monkeys were inoculated intravenously with SIVmac239 and followed-up for 18 months.Based on their progression patterns and plasma viral loads,animals were divided into 3 groups,including 1 rapid progressor( RP),13 normal progressors(NP),and 2 elite controllor(EC).Their parameters of haematology,virology,immunology and pathology were examined and compared. Results Compared with other animals,RM449(RP) showed higher viral load,unresponsive humoral immunity,and higher level of auto-antibodies against lymph node,thymus,and spleen.Additionally,its effector memory CD4 count was lower,with the transformation progress being blocked-like from naive/central memory subsets to effector memory subset,as the flow-cytometry assay showed.Notable decrease in its peripheral B cell was also observed,especially to the sub-population of tissue-like memory B cells and activated memory B cells.Pathological examination showed the depletion of lymphoid tissue,atrophy of spleen and loss of thymus.Moreover,most of these parameters of RM450 and RM453 (EC) changed opposite to that of RP.Conclusion The hallmarks of RM449 were higher viraemia and lower SIV specific IgG level,which may due to the disturbance of T cells and B cells development and differentiation.Moreover,destructions of organs of the immune system may contribute to the disturbance.Our study suggest that the change of micro-environments of thymus induced by SIV infection,which is necessary in T cell and B cell development and differentiation,may contribute at least partially to the AIDS pathogenesis.

This study was aimed to explore the antidepressant effect of Kai-Xin Jie-Yu (KXJY) prescription on depressive model of rats,and to explore the level of inflammatory cytokines in peripheral blood.According to sucrose preference and weight,male SD rats were randomly divided into the normal group,model group and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) group.The model of depression was established by chronic unpredictable mild stress and separation for @@6 weeks.Body weight,sucrose preference and forced swimming test were used to evaluate the depressive state.The levels of IL-1β,IL-2,IL-6 and TNF-α in the serum of rats were measured by ELISA.The results showed that compared with the normal group,the weight,sucrose preference and total drinking water of rat model gToup were significantly reduced.The immobility time of forced swimming was significantly prolonged.The level of IL-1β,IL-2,IL-6 and TNF-α expression in serum was significantly increased.There was no significant difference between the body weight of rats in the model group and TCM group.The total amount of drinking water and sucrose preference were significantly increased.The immobility time of forced swimming was reduced.Levels of IL-1 β,IL-2,IL-6 and TNF-α expression were decreased significantly.It was concluded that KXJY prescription can improve depression symptoms in depression model of rats.It may be related to regulate the expression level of serum inflammatory cytokines.
