The inhibiting effect of 11 kinds of ordinary vegetables including eggplant, cucumber, Chinese cabbage, fresh kidney bean, tomato, paprika, spinach, carrot, onion and celery on the formation of N-nitroso compounds was studied. Most vegetables inhibited the formation of N-nitrosodimethylamine when am-inopyrine and nitrite added to the vegetable juice and citric acid buffer were incubated in a model system simulated stomach condition (pH 3.00, T 37℃) for 1 hr. The inhibiting rate related to the contents of ascorbic acid in the vegetables ranged from 32.70% to 97.61%. Onion, fresh kidney bean, spinach and eggplant inhibited the formation of N-nitrosodimethylamine effectively with the inhibiting rate of 77.91%, 73.40%, 57.48% and 30.75% respectively (the inhibiting effect of ascorbic acid contained in the vegetables had been excluded). The relationship between the dose and the inhibiting effect of onion, fresn kidney bean, spinach and eggplant was good with the correlation coeffecient 0.756, 0.917, 0.607 and 0.801 (p

Objective To evaluate the myocardial protective effect of pretreatment with pinacidil, a potassium channel opener, on myocardium perfused intermittently with normothermic or hypothermic high potassium crystalloid cardioplegie solution during cardiopulmonary bypass ( CPB) . Methods Eighteen dogs of both sexes weighing 10-15 kg were intubated and mechanically ventilated after induction of anesthesia. Femoral artery and vein were cannulated for direct MAP and CVP monitoring. Swan-ganz catheter was placed via right internal jugular vein. The animals were randomly divided into 3 groups: group A (hypothermic CPB) in which heart was perfused with 4℃ St Thomas solution 10 ml?kg-1 in 2 min and 30 min later perfused again with half of the initial volume(5 ml? kg-1); in group B (normotherinic CPB) and group C (hypothermic CPB) heart was pretreated with oxygenated pinacidil solution (0.083 mg?kg-1 37℃) before cardioplegia. The heart was subjected to 60 min global ischemia followed by 30 min reperfusion. The hemodynamic changes were measured before aortic cross-clamping and 15 and 30 min after release of aortic cross-clamping. Myocardial tissue was obtained from apex of left ventricle for determination of myocardial adenine nucleotide content 5 min after CPB was initiated, 30 and 60 min after aortic cross-clamping and 20 min after reperfusion. Results During reperfusion the hemodynamic function and myocardial ATP content recovered significantly better in group C than those in group A and B ( P

Objective To compare the concordance among RECIST, EASL and modified RECIST criteria for the evaluation of tumor response after transarterial chemoembolization of primary liver cancer. Methods Fifty patients with primary liver cancer underwent 2 TACE cycles separated by 30-40 days.Triphasic helical CT or MRI scans were performed at baseline, at 4 weeks after TACE procedure, and 2 independent radiologists evaluated tumor response according to above-mentioned three different criteria. Chisquare test was used to compare the response rate, and kappa coefficients were used to evaluate the coherence. Results When tumor responses were evaluated using the RECIST-EASL and modified RECIST criteria, the numbers of the patients achieved complete response, partial response, stable disease, progressive disease were 0, 10, 30, 10; 6,21,14,9; 6,21,13,10 respectively. The objective response rates for three different criteria were 20%, 54%, 54% respectively ( P < 0. 01 ). Kappa coefficients between RECIST and EASL, between RECIST and modified RECIST, between EASL and modified RECIST were 0. 382, 0. 170, and 0. 857 (P = 0. 000). Conclusions RECIST criteria underestimates the extent of tumor response after TACE in primary liver cancer. Both EASL and modified RECIST criteria appear to agree with each other in determining treatment response. Furthermore, the modified RECIST is more convenient in clinical practice compared with EASL criteria.

Acta Anatomica Sinica 1953;0(01):-
In our experiment the typical structure of Peyer's patches (PP) of rabbits was absent in neonatal animals, but after birth, it developed gradually and rapidly. On the 6 th day, the lymphoid structure of PP appeared and two types of lymphocytes, T and B, were observed in PP. At the same time, there were some microfold cells in the epithelium of the dome. By half a month, the lymphoid structure of PP matured histologically and later on it was more developed and PP gradually increased in size during the growth of the rabbit. The PP of a 3 month old rabbit were similar to those of the mature animals, but no involution of PP appeared at the stage of sexual maturity. The development of PP in rabbits is closely related to the first antigenic stimulation from the intestinal contents, and T, B lymphocytes and macrophages are present at the start of PP formation. In addition, there is no involution of PP in the adult rabbit. These features of PP in rabbits are different from those of the bursa of Fabricius, so it is inappropriate to regard the PP of rabbits as the homologue of the avian bursa of Fabricius.

Objective:To determine the effect of hypoxic stress on glioma cell XBP1 expression, the relationship between XBP1 expres-sion and sugar metabolism, the influence of XBP1 repression on the survival rate of glioma cells under normoxia and hypoxia, and the influence of XBP1 on glioma cell glycolysis. Methods:We tested XBP1 activation in human glioma cell lines cultured under normoxia and hypoxia. XBP1 expression was repressed with siRNA technology. Cells were treated with oxidative phosphorylation inhibitor. We then detected the variation in cell apoptosis, sugar metabolism mode, and cell apoptosis and glycolysis products under normoxia and hypoxia. Results:XBP1 activation increased under hypoxia. Silencing XBP1 expression reduced glioma cell survival level, ATP and lactic acid production, and glucose consumption under hypoxia. After inhibiting cell oxidative phosphorylation, XBP1 repression significantly reduced the survival level of glioma cells. Conclusion:Hypoxia can activate XBP1 in glioma cells. Under hypoxia, XBP1 silencing de-presses cell activity and glycolysis. Glycolysis of glioma cells under hypoxia depends on XBP1 activation.
