Objective To evaluate the influence of Fuzheng Huayu decoction on different pathological stages fibrotic liver tissue and activated hepatic stellate cells (HSCs). Methods Use a carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-induced liver cirrhosis rat model system. The drug intervention was administered via oral-gastric irrigation in building, the end of week 2 and 4. Rats were batch sacrificed at the end of week 2 , 4, and 6. Liver fibrosis was evaluated by histology, and expression of a-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) was determined by immunohistochemistry. Between-group comparisons were made by completely random design and ANOVA with Bonferroni correction. Results At the end of weeks 2, 4 and 6, the model group and drug intervention groups had significantly higher area ratio of liver fibrosis and higher expression of α-SMA than the normal group, but the three drug intervention groups had significantly less area ratio of liver fibrosis and less expression of α-SMA than the model group and the drug intervention 1 group showed the most robust decrease (P<0.05). Conclusion The Fuzheng Huayu decoction leads to down-regulated α-SMA expression and reduced degree of liver fibrosis on different pathological stages of fibrotic liver tissue, and the earlier drug intervention, the better the results.

Objective:To investigate the effect of tooth wear on the morphological features of mandibular first molars. Methods:15 extracted mandibular first molars with tooth wear and 15 without wear were investigated. Data about the morphological features of tooth were collected through the general measurement and the image measurement by electronic meter. Results:①In non-tooth-wear group, mesiodistal width of tooth was greater than buccolingual width(P0.05); ②The vertical distance between the lowest point of pulp chamber roof and occlusal surface in non-tooth-wear group was greater than that in tooth-wear group(P05); ④The distance between distolingual pulp horn and distal proximal plane was greater than that between mesiolingual pulp horn and mesial proximal plane in both two groups(P0.05). Conclusion:For different parts of tooth, the effect of tooth wear differs. As for mandibular first molars, the distal part of occlusal surface and the buccal part of distal proximal plane are susceptible to tooth wear, which is mainly due to occlusal factors and the features of biomechanical system.

Objective:To investigate the correlation between mild cognitive impairment(MCI)and abnormal glucose metabolism and thus to provide a basis for MCI prevention. Methods:A total of 1 074 elderly outpatients with normal cognitive function and without confirmed diabetes mellitus, hyperlipoidemia or gout were enrolled.During a five-year follow-up period, 121 subjects were diagnosed with MCI based on the mini mental state examination(MMSE)and the Montreal cognitive assessment(MoCA). Furthermore, annual blood glucose and glycated hemoglobin monitoring was carried out to examine the long-term effects of abnormal glucose metabolism on MCI risk. Results:According to cognitive function, 1 074 subjects were divided into the MCI group and the non-MCI group.Compared with the non-MCI group, the mean values of fasting blood glucose(FBG), glycosylated hemoglobin(HbA1c), triglycerides(TG)and total cholesterol(TC)in the MCI group were elevated( P<0.05). The receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve showed that the cut-off value of FBG was 6.2 mmol/L for the hyperglycemia group(sensitivity: 84.1%, specificity: 90.9%, area under curve: 0.875, P<0.001)and 4.5mmol/L for the hypoglycemic group(sensitivity: 77.4%, specificity: 87.3%, area under curve: 0.823, P<0.001); the cut-off value of HbA1c was 5.5%(sensitivity: 76.0%, specificity: 87.0%, area under curve: 0.815, P<0.001). Multiple Logistic regression analysis showed that increased risk of MCI was associated with the mean values of fasting blood glucose <4.5 mmol/L( RR: 1.69, 95% CI: 1.11-2.59)or ≥6.2 mmol/L( RR: 1.81, 95% CI: 1.15-2.86)and of glycosylated hemoglobin ≥ 5.5%( RR: 2.13, 95% CI: 1.51-2.99). Conclusions:Impaired fasting glucose tolerance and low fasting blood glucose are independent risk factors for MCI in the elderly.

Objective To compare the efficacy of laparoscopic-assisted hemicolectomy with that of open hemicolectomy for right colon carcinoma and to explore the safety and effectiveness of the formor procedure. Methods The clinical data on 46 patients who had undergone laparoscopic-assisted hemicolectomy and 68 patients who had received open hemicolectomy between December 2009 and December 2013 in our department were retrospectively analyzed. Length of postoperative hospital stay, surgical duration, amount of intraoperative blood loss, number of lymph node dissection, time to postoperative anal exhaust, surgical costs, postoperative complications, and survival rate were compared between the two groups. Results There were no statistical differences between the two grounps in gender, age, body mass index, pathological typing, depth of invasion, and total number of lymph node dissection. Length of hospital stay was 6.84 days in the group of laparoscopic-assisted hemicolectomy and 11.72 days in the group of open hemicolectomy , with a statistical significance. Surgical duration and treatment costs did not differ significantly between the two groups; while amount of intraoperative blood loss (76.63 mL vs. 141.5 mL) and time to postoperative anal exhaust differed significanly. Conclusions Laparoscopic-assisted hemicolectomy is safe and effective for treatment of colon cancer , It has advantages of small trauma, rapid postoperative recovery, and a nice-looking surgical incision.
10.Progress in microencapsulation of stem cells.
Chinese Journal of Biotechnology 2010;26(12):1611-1617
For the regenerative therapy of refractory diseases, stem cells have become an excellent source of seed cells due to their strong self-renewal and multi-differentiation abilities. Microcapsules can provide a three-dimensional growth environment with a good immunoisolation and biocompatibility for cells, and the microencapsulation of stem cells provides a new technical support for large-scale cell culture with high activities in vitro and long-term preservation, consequently opening up a new alternative for cell transplantation. In this review, we first outlined the development of microencapsulation, then introduced the present materials and methods for the microencapsulation of stem cells and its immunoisolation, and discussed the progress in microencapsulation technology, various types of stem cell used in recent years in details. Finally, we addressed perspectives of stem cell microencapsulation technology.
