Objective To determine the influence of total glucosides of paeony (TGP) on bone density, protein level of skeletal muscle and relative cytokine of osteoporotic rats. Methods Six-month-old SD rats were shamed as control (8 rats) or were ovariectomized (24 rats). The ovariectomized (16 rats) +TGP low dose and high dose group were treated with 50 mg/(kg?d) TGP and 150 mg/(kg?d) TGP respectively for 12 weeks. After the animals were sacrificed, IL-6, TNF-?, IGF-1, TGF-? in serum, protein level of skeletal muscle in right quadriceps femoris, and bone density of right femur and lumbar vertebra were determined. Objective To investigate the possible correlation between the monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 ( MCP-1 ) gene A-2518G single nucleotide polymorphism (SNPs) in the promoter region and acute coronary syndrome (ACS) in Chinese Han ethnic population of Sunan region,Methods This study was conducted with a case-control design in 484 ACS patients including 290 acute myocardial infarction (AMI)patients and 194 patients with unstable angina pectoris (UAP) and 346 control subjects ruled out coronary disease by coronary angiography (control group),including 166 patients with coronary atherosclerosis and 180 subjects without coronary stenosis.Polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) was used for the detection of the A-2518G polymorphism in MCP-1 gene,and then thefrequency of genetype was statistically analyzed.Results There were AA,AG and GG genotypes of MCP-1 gene A-2518G polymorphism in the ACS group and control group.The two groups could be considered as a genetic equilibrium representative by Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium ( P ＞ 0.05 ).Compared with the control group,the frequencies of AA genotype ( 15.32％ vs.16.12％ ),AG genotype (53.47％ vs.51.86％ ),GG genotype (31.21％ vs.32.02％ ) and G allele genotype (57.95％ vs.57.95％ ) in ACS group were not significantly different ( P was 0.083,0.673,0.821 and 1.00,respectively).Multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that there was no significant correlation between MCP-1 gene A-2518G polymorphism and ACS regardless of differences in gender,age,smoking,diabetes,TG and LDL-C ( P ＞0.05 ).There was no significant difference in gender and age of ACS onset between two groups ( P ＞ 0.05).There were no significant differences in the frequencies of AA,AG and GG genotypes and G allele genotype among AMI group,UAP group and normal coronary group ( P ＞ 0.05).Conclusions The data shows that MCP-1 gene A-2518G polymorphism is not associated with the risk of ACS in the Chinese Han ethnic population living in Sunan region.

Thirteen compounds were isolated from the ethyl acetate fraction of Crepis crocea by column chromatographies on silica gel, Sephadex LH-20 and semi-preparative HPLC. The structures were elucidated on the basis of spectral analysis as tectorone I (1), 8β- (2-methyl- 2-hydroxy-3-oxobutanoyloxy) -glucozaluzanin C (2), tectoroside (3), luteolin-7-O-glucoside (4), cosmosiin (5), esculetin (6), 3,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde (7), trans-4-hydroxycinnamic acid (8), Caffeic acid (9), methyl p-hydroxyphenyllactate (10), ethylp- hydroxyphenyllactate (11), cis-3,4-dihydroxy-β-ionion (12). All the compounds, except for compounds 4 and 9, were isolated from this plant for the first time, and tectorone I (1) is a new natural product.

Objective To explore associations between SG13S114A/T and SG13S32A/C polymorphisms of ALOX5AP gene and the genetic susceptibility of ischemic cerebrovascular diseases (ICVD) in Henan Han population.Methods Two hundred and forty-six ICVD patients and 245 healthy controls were recruited from Han population in Henan province. Polymorphisms of SG13S114A/T and SG13S32A/C in ALOX5AP gene were genotyped in these samples by SnaPshot minisequencing method.Each genotype frequency and allele frequency were statistically analyzed and compared between ICVD group and control group using SPSS16.0 software.Haplotype and linkage disequilibrium were analyzed by SHEsis software.Results The SG13S114 AA genotype frequency ( 18.7％ ) and A allele frequency (41.3％) in ICVD group were significantly higher than those in control group (9.0％ and 32.7％,respectively; P =0.002 and P =0.005 ).It was also found that in male ICVD group and in younger ICVD group ( ＜50 years old),the SG13S114 AA genotype frequencies (22.1％ and 22.0％,respectively) and A allele frequencies (42.1％ and 42.7％,respectively) were significantly higher than those in male control group and younger control group (SG13S114 AA genotype:9.0％ and 8.9％ ; P =0.010 and P =0.006,respectively) ;A allele frequencies,34.0％ and 32.0％ ; P =0.048 and P =0.020,respectively.Finally,the prevalence of A-A haplotype in ICVD group was significantly higher than that in control group(30.4％ vs 23.5％,OR =1.419,95％ CI 1.068-1.885,P =0.015).T-C haplotype frequency of ICVD group was significantly lower than that in control group (22.0％ vs 28.8％,OR =0.698,95％ CI 0.523-0.932,P =0.014 ).Conclusions The A allele in SG13S114 loci of ALOX5AP may be a genetic risk factor for ICVD in Han population in Henan province.The association is predominant in ICVD patients of male and younger than 50 years old.Maybe A-A haplotype increases the risk of ICVD and T-C haplotype and has a protective effect against ICVD in Henan Han population.

To study the efficacy and possible mechanism of Yiqi Huayu Recipe (YQHYR), a compound traditional Chinese herbal medicine, in preventing and treating degeneration of the articular cartilage in rats with osteoarthritis (OA).

Objective To discuss the expressions and clinical significance of p53 and p33ING1b in human psoriasis and basal cell carcinoma (BCC). Methods Immunohistochemistry EnVision technique was used to detect the expressions of p53 and p33ING1b in samples of 36 psoriasis vulgaris, 28 BCC and 14 normal skins. Results The expression of p53 increased while p33ING1b had a degressive expression in the control group, the psoriasis group and the BCC group. It was found significant statistical difference between the two groups (all P < 0.05). Prominent positive correlation between p53 and p33ING1b were found in both psoriasis group and BCC group (all P<0.05). Conclusions p53 coacts with p33ING1b at local lesions of abnormal proliferative diseases . It′s one of the most prominent mechanisms contributing to deviant cell proliferation.

One hundred and forty-four medical students were enrolled in the study, the participants were randomly divided into experimental group and control group with 72 in each. All students attended the theoretical lecture of general medicine. Students in experimental group took part in the extracurricular teaching activities including the nutritional course and practice, the clinical case study and problem based learning ( PBL), students in control group did not have the extracurricular activities. The results showed that although there was no difference in general testing scores between two groups, the problem solving ability and assay-writing ability of experimental group were significantly higher than those of control group.

AIM: To study the current density of transient outward potassium current (I_(to)) in cells from the epicardial zone of the 1-week and 2-month infarcted rabbit heart. METHODS: Rabbits were infarcted by ligation of the left anterior descending coronary artery, 1 week as well as 2 months later, the single ventricular myocytes were isolated enzymatically from the infracted area of 1-week infracted rabbit heart (PMI-1 week) and 2-month infracted heart (PMI-2 months), region remote from the infracted zone of 2-month infracted heart (REM-2 months) and free wall of left ventricule from noninfarcted heart (CON). I_(to) was recorded using whole cell patch-clamp techniques. (RESULTS:) Membrane capacitance of myocytes in REM-2 months group was signifitantly larger than that in CON.
