1.A case of proptosis by traumatic delayed meningo-encephalocele.
Journal of Clinical Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery 2015;29(11):1040-1041
A case of traumatic delayed meningo-encephalocele suffered orbital fracture, but bony defects in frontal sinus had not been found on CT scanning. We treated the patient with surgery of intranasal endoscopy and repaired the skull base defect successfully during the first attempt. There was no recurrence in 10 months followed up. The leak site may not correlate with imaging in traumatic delayed meningo-encephalocele by comparing operative findings with the imaging estimate and endoscopy. Therefore, endoscopical approaching is effective in seeking and treatment.

ABSTRACT:Objective To investigate the prognostic value of primary tumor volume in non-endemic patients with nasopharynx carcinoma in northwest China. Methods A total of 393 patients were enrolled in the study and all the patients had been identified with nasopharynx squamous cell carcinoma by biopsy.Overall survival (OS)and distant metastasis free survival (DMFS)were the primary endpoints. The cut-off of tumor volume was identified by ROC curves. Survival results were analyzed by the Kaplan-Meier curve. Independent prognostic factors were identified by COX proportional hazards regression model. Results The 5-year OS and DMFS for all the patients were 74.3% and 73.5%.23 mL was considered as the optimal cut-off value according to the ROC curves, and then the patients were divided into two groups (≤2 3 mL and >2 3 mL ).Patients with tumor volume ≤2 3 mL had significantly better 5-year OS and DMFS than those with tumor volume >2 3 mL (P<0 .0 5 ).The independent prognostic factors for DMFS and OS included WHO histological type, tumor volume >2 3 mL and N2-3 (P<0.05).Conclusion Primary tumor volume is an independent prognostic factor for survival of nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients in northwest China.

Objective To investigate the relationship between autophagy and metastasis of nasopharyngeal cancer ( NPC) cell lines 5?8F and 6?10B after X?ray irradiation and the related mechanism. Methods Two substrains, 5?8F and 6?10B, of the NPC cell line SUNE1, with high and low metastatic potentials, respectively, were used in our study. After 4 Gy X?ray irradiation, 5?8F cells were treated with rapamycin ( 20 μmol/L) to induce autophagy and 6?10B cells were treated with LY294002( 10μmol/L) to inhibit autophagy. The autophagy and metastatic activity of NPC cells were determined using qRT?PCR, Western blot, Transwell assay, laser confocal microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. Results 5?8F cells showed a lower level of autophagy than 6?10B cells after X?ray irradiation. Rapamycin increased the autophagy and inhibited the metastasis of 5?8F cells after irradiation, while LY294002 inhibited the autophagy and increased the metastasis of 6?10B cells. Conclusions NPC 5?8F cells, which have a high metastatic potential, have a lower level of autophagy than 6?10B cells, which have a low metastatic potential. Autophagic inhibition could increase the metastatic activity of NPC cells, while autophagic activation could reduce their metastatic activity. Mechanistic analysis indicates that the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway is involved in this process.

Journal of Applied Clinical Pediatrics 2006;0(22):-
Objective To explore the age-and sex-specific body composition of normal children in Beijing area.Metheds The subjects were a total of 587 children of 6-14 years old,who were recruited from Beijing schools. All of them had relative weight within normal range(80%~120%),and no chronic disease. The relative weight was obtained, according to standard weight, using the follo-(wing) formula: relative weight(%)=(body weight/standard weight) ?100.Body compositions were estimated with a bioelectrical impedance analyser, which had been proved to be reliable and valid for determining the percentage of body fat. Results Not only fat free mass(FFM) but also fat mass(FM) increased monotonically with age in both sexes.FFM was higher in boys than that in girls at all ages.FM was significantly higher in girls than that in boys aged 6 to 8 years old;however, there was no significant difference for FM between sexes aged 9-14 years old.Patterns of change in mean ratio of body fat(%BF),with age differed by sex.Percent age of BF was significantly higher in girls than that in boys at all ages except at 10 and 11 years old. In boys,%BF increased with age, while in girls it remained nearly constant from age 6 to 10 years old,and gradually increased from age 10 to 14 years old.Body mass index(BMI) increased steadily with age in both sexes, and boys had consistently higher BMI than girls. In boys, the increase in BMI was steeper from age 10 to 14 years old.Even in the subjects with BMI

Objective To investigate characteristics of glucose metabolism of non-obese and obese women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Methods From May 2006 to April 2009, 1928 PCOS patients treated in Reproductive Medicine Center of Shandong Provincial Hospital Affiliated to Shandong University were enrolled in this study, which were divided into 901 cases [body mass index (BMI) ≥25 kg/m2] in obese group and 1027 cases in non-obese (BMI < 25 kg/m2) group. The prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), oral glucose tolerance test, impaired fasting glucose (IFG), impaired glucose tolerance(IGT) were compared between the two groups. Results (1) Blood glucose levels: at the time of fasting, 30, 60, 120 and 180 minutes, the levels of glucose were (5. 3±1.1), (9. 0±2. 4), (9. 3±4. 4),(7.5±2.8) ,(5.3±1.8)mmol/L in obese group and (5.0±0. 8) ,(8.4±3.5),(8.0±4.2),(6.5±3.2) ,(4. 9±1.6) mmol/L in non-obese group, which all showed statistical difference at every time point (P < 0. 01). (2)The level of insulin: at the time of fasting, 30, 60, 120 min, the level of insulin were (13±7), (81±51), (102±65), (83±63) mU/L in obese group and (8±5) ,(57±35) ,(62±44),(46±39) mU/L in non-obese group, which all showed statistical differenceatevery time point (P <0. 01). However, at time point of 180 minutes, the level of insulin did not exhibit significantly difference between obese and non-obese group (P > 0. 05). (3) The prevalence of abnormal glucose metabolism: the rate of IFG was 4. 98% (96/1928). The rate of abnormal glucose tolerance was 23. 08% (445/1928). The rate of IGT were 13.05% (134/1027) in non-obese group and 24. 20% (218/901) in obese group, which also showed remarkable difference (P < 0. 01). The rate of T2DM were 2. 53% (26/1027) in nonobese group and 7.44% (67/901) in obese group, which reached significant difference (P < 0. 01).Conclusion Abnormal glucose metabolism was observed more frequently in overweight or obese PCOS women.

Objective To compare the value of assessment with DWI and contrast-enhanced MRI (CE-MRI) in activity of sacroiliitis of patients with ankylosing spondylitis(AS).Methods Ninety-six patients conforming to modified New York criteria were prospectively collectedas the AS group, and twenty-one healthy volunteers were enrolled into the control group. According to the Bath AS disease activity index (BASDAI), erythrocyte sedimentation rate and C-reaction protein, AS patients were divided into the active AS group (n=60) and the chronic AS group (n=36) . All subjects were performed with conventional MRI, DWI and CE-MRI of bilateral sacroiliac joints. The MRI manifestations were reviewed and the ADC values and signal intensity enhancement rate (ΔSI) were measured.ANOVA was performed for the comparison ofΔSI and ADC values among active AS group, chronic AS group and control group with BASDAI and lab test results as the gold standards. ROC was analyzed with ΔSI and ADC values for activity of AS and paired
samples t test was obtained to comparethe areas under the ROC ofΔSI and ADC values. Results Among 96 cases of AS patients, MRI of sacroiliac jointsshowed that 62 cases had subchondral bone edema (57 cases of active group, 5 cases of chronic group), that 11 cases had bone surface erosion(4 cases of active group, 7 cases of chronic group), that 15 cases had bone sclerosis(6 cases of active group, 9 cases of chronic group) and that 58 cases had fat deposition on the sacroiliac joints (27 cases of active group, 31 cases of chronic group). The ΔSI values of the active group, the chronic group and control group were respectively (2.51 ± 1.69)%,(1.19 ± 0.67)%and(0.75 ± 0.21)%, and the ADCvalues were(1.33 ± 0.33)× 10-3,(1.00 ± 0.43)× 10-3 and(0.38±0.13)×10-3mm2/s. There were significant differences forΔSI and ADC values among three groups (F=18.375, 16.366. P<0.01), and statistical significance ofΔSI and ADC values were found between every two groups of three(P< 0.05).The area under the ROC between ΔSI and ADC to determine activity of AS patients were respectively 0.814 and 0.730, which had nostatistical significance(t=1.632, P=0.103). The sensitivity and specificity to determine activity of AS patients byΔSI=1.44%were 81.67%and 80.00%.The sensitivity and specificity to determine activity of AS patients by ADC=1.15 × 10-3/mm2 were 76.67% and 71.43%.Conclusion DWI and CE-MRI performed equally in detecting activity of AS patients.
