Objective:To evaluate evaluation of the changes of alveolar bone height in the periodontal patients with anterior teeth displacement before and after combined orthodontic periodontal treatment with circumferential fibrotomy. Methods: Totally 16 periodontal patients with anterior displaced teeth were analyzed after random clinical trialed as groups with and without circumferential fibrotomy of involving teeth followed by orthodontic intrusion. Evaluations of the changes of alveolar bone were given before and after treatment by means of periapical X ray film and CT scan of the involving teeth. Results: Orthodontic treatment with circumferential fibrotomy can increase the height of crest bone. Alveolar bone height was increased in the patients with circumferential fibrotomy followed by orthodontic intrusion of displaced anterior teeth. Alveolar bone height was increase by 1.2 mm on average in circumferential fibrotomy patient. In the patients with symmetric alveolar bone loss, 0.8 mm increase of alveolar bone height was observed following treatment. For the patients with asymmetric alveolar bone loss, 0.9 mm increase of alveolar bone height was detected in mild bone loss patients, but 1.4 mm and 2.2 mm increase of alveolar bone height were found in moderate and severe bone loss patients, respectively. For patients having the orthodontic treatment without circumferential fibrotomy, the alveolar bone height was increased by 0.1 mm only. Statistic significance was found between the circumferential fibrotomy group and non fibrotomy group. Conclusion: Combined orthodontic periodontal treatment with circumferential fibrotomy could correct the malpositioned teeth, and improve the periodontium conditions and gain the crest bone.

BACKGROUND:Meta-analysis results have shown that Duhuojisheng Decoction can improve the symptoms and relieve the pain of patients with knee osteoarthritis, but the mechanism and pathway are not very clear.OBJECTIVE:To further verify the curative effect of Duhuojisheng Decoction for primary knee osteoarthritis in macaca fascicularis. METHODS: Under natural conditions, 6 clean young macaca fascicularis (aged 3-5 years, normal group) and 6 elderly macaca fascicularis (aged more than 20 years, model group) were selected from 24 macaca fascicularis. The models of primary knee osteoarthritis were established in the model group, then aged animals were randomly divided into control and intervention(given the treatment of Duhuojisheng Decoction) groups. The number of whole blood leukocytes, C-reactive protein, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, properties of the joint fluid and expression level of tumor necrosis factor-α were compared between the control and intervention groups. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The aged macaca fascicularis was characterized by a typical osteoarthritis similar to human. Treatment with Duhuojisheng Decoction significantly down-regulated the expression level of tumor necrosis factor-α and significantly reduced the levels of whole blood leukocytes, and C-reactive protein. Our results suggest that the aged macaca fascicularis model of primary knee osteoarthritis is an effective animal model to simulate the occurrence and development of human primary knee osteoarthritis.Duhuojisheng decoction alleviates the progression of primary knee osteoarthritis probably by inhibiting the expression level of tumor necrosis factor-α and decreasing the levels of inflammatory factors in the articular cartilage. Additionally, the levels of whole blood leukocytes and C-reactive protein are important parameters for the prediction of curative effects.

5 fold) were noted.Six significant differential proteins in gel were identified by LTQ-ESI,e.g.endoplasmin precursor, acidic leucin-rich nuclear phosphoprotein 32 family member A,serotransferrin precursor,stress-70 protein precursor, fibronectin precursor, complement C3 precursor, fibrinogen gamma polypeptide.CONCLUSION: The protein profile of apoE-/-/LDLR-/-mouse liver exhibits significant difference compared to that of WT mice. The results imply that lipid metabolism relative polygenetic mutation contributes to the alteration of mouse liver protein expression profile, especially that lipid metabolism related perhaps participates in dysfunction in lipid metabolism during atherogenesis.

Over-expression of Fas ligand (FasL) on tumor cell surface can induce the apoptosis of specific activated tumor infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) via the Fas/FasL pathway, leading to the formation of a site of immune privilege surrounding the tumor mass for escaping immune surveillance and promoting tumor proliferation, invasion and metastasis. The blocking effect of miR-21 on FasL-mediated apoptosis in breast cancers was investigated in this study. The expression levels of miR-21 and FasL in human breast carcinoma cell lines were detected by using RT-PCR and Western blotting. FasL as a target gene of miR-21 was identified by Luciferase assay. The apoptosis of Jurkat T lymphocytes induced by MCF-7 cells was determined by flow cytometry. It was found that in four human breast cancer cell lines, FasL expression level in MCF-7 cells was the highest, while miR-21 was down-regulated the most notably. After miR-21 expression in MCF-7 cells was up-regulated, FasL was identified as a target gene of miR-21. When the effector/target (E/T) ratio of MCF-7 cells and Jurkat cells was 10:1, 5:1 and 1:1, the inhibitory rate of apoptosis of Jurkat T lymphocytes induced by MCF-7 cells was 95.81%, 93.16% and 91.94%, respectively. It is suggested that in breast cancers miR-21 expression is negatively associated with FasL expression, and FasL is a target gene of miR-21. miR-21 targeting and regulating FasL-mediated apoptosis will bring us the possibility of a new tumor immunotherapy via breaking tumor immune privilege.

To study the effect of Wansheng Huafeng Dan (WSHFD) and mercuric chloride on renal mercury (Hg) extraction transporters (Oat1, Oct2), renal mercury excretion transporters (Mrp4, Mate2K), renal mercury accumulation and kidney injury molecule-1 (Kim-1). The ancient prescription of WSHFD containing 10-fold Hg caused much lower renal mercury accumulation and renal toxicity than HgCl2 in rats, with less effect on renal transporters than HgCl2. The above indicators had no significant difference in WSHFDO, WSHFD2 and WSHFD3 groups, indicating no effect of WSHFD with reduced or no cinnabar.

Chinese Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery 2012;15(4):373-376
OBJECTIVETo compare outcomes of left and right thoracic incision for middle and lower thoracic esophageal squamous cancer, and to determine reasonable surgical approach for thoracic esophageal squamous carcinoma.
METHODSOne hundred and twenty patients with middle or lower thoracic esophageal squamous cancer who received esophagectomy plus lymphadenectomy between January 2004 and December 2007 were divided into two groups including left(n=60) and right thoracic(n=60) approach. Clinical data were analyzed including the results of surgical resection, lymphadenectomy, postoperative complication, recurrence, and survival.
RESULTSThe rate of surgical resection was 91.7%(55/60) in the left approach group and 95%(57/60) in the right approach group. There was no significant difference(P>0.05). But the average number of lymph nodes resected (4.60 vs. 8.32) and metastatic lymph nodes(0.57 vs. 1.33) were both significantly higher in the right approach group(P<0.01). There was no statistical difference in postoperative complications[26.7%(16/60) vs. 31.7%(19/60), P>0.05] between the two groups. However, the incidence of local recurrence was lower[43.3%(26/60) vs. 23.3%(14/60), P<0.05] in the right approach group than that in left-approach group. There was no significant difference in distant metastasis(P>0.05).
CONCLUSIONSThe resection rate is comparable between left and right approach for thoracic esophageal cancer. However, it is easier to perform systemic lymphadenectomy via right thoracic approach and therefore the local recurrence is reduced and long-term survival improved.

Journal of Southern Medical University 2009;29(11):2266-2268
OBJECTIVETo investigate the expressions of vascular endothelial growth factor-C (VEGF-C), C-erbB-2, p53, estrogen receptor (ER), and progesterone receptor (PR) in breast cancer tissue and their clinical significance.
METHODSThe expressions of C-erbB-2, p53, ER, and PR in 60 breast cancer tissues were detected using immunohistochemistry, and their clinical significance was analyzed.
RESULTSThe positivity rates of VEGF-C, C-erbB-2, p53, ER, and PR in the 60 breast cancer tissues were 56.7%, 38.3%, 46.7%, 48.3% and 53.3%, respectively. The expressions of VEGF-C and C-erbB-2 differed significantly in relation to the lymph node status (P<0.05), but not to the patient's age or tumor volume (P>0.05). The expression of VEGF-C was positively correlated to that of C-erbB-2 (P<0.05). The expression of p53 was positively correlated to the tumor volume (P<0.05). The expressions of ER and PR were not correlated to the patient's age, tumor volume and lymph node status (P>0.05), but were inversely correlated to C-erbB-2 expression (P<0.05) independent of VEGF-C and p53 expressions (P>0.05).
CONCLUSIONSThe high expressions of VEGF-C and C-erbB-2 are closely related to lymph node metastasis in breast cancer patients, and may cooperate in promoting lymph node metastasis of breast carcinoma. Combined detection of VEGF-C, C-erbB-2, p53, ER and PR may help clinical treatment and prognostic evaluation of breast cancer patients.
