Sleep quality is closely related to human health. It is very important to correctly discriminate the sleep stages for evaluating sleep quality, diagnosing and analyzing the sleep-related disorders. Polysomnography (PSG) signals are commonly used to record and analyze sleep stages. Effective feature extraction and representation is one of the most important steps to improve the performance of sleep stage classification. In this work, a collaborative representation (CR) algorithm was adopted to re-represent the original extracted features from electroencephalogram sig- nal, and then the kernel entropy component analysis (KECA) algorithm was further used to reduce the feature dimension of CR-feature. To evaluate the performance of CR-KECA, we compared the original feature, CR feature and readied CR feature (CR-PCA) after principal component analysis (PCA). The experimental results of sleep stage classification indicated that the CR-KECA method achieved the best performance compared with the original feature, CR feature, and CR-PCA feature with the classification accuracy of 68.74 +/- 0.46%, sensitivity of 68.76 +/- 0.43% and specificity of 92.19 +/- 0.11%. Moreover, CR algorithm had low computational complexity, and the feature dimension after KECA was much smaller, which made CR-KECA algorithm suitable for the analysis of large-scale sleep data.

Objective To investigate the characteristics of the author groups in 《Chinese Journal of Geriatrics》,in order to provide references for the future construction and development of the author ranks. Methods Bibliometric method was used to analyze the quantity of papers, region distributions, core authors and cooperative rate in 《Chinese Journal of Geriatrics》 from 2009 to 2013.Results The total amount of papers published in 《Chinese Journal of Geriatrics》》 from 2009 to 2013 was 1636,involving 31 provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities and administrative region.Among these,Beijing,Zhejiang,Tianjin and Jiangsu were the 3 top contributing regions, accounting for 54.0 percent (884/1636 papers). The 1636 papers were contributed by 1435 authors (first authors),of whom 1275 authors published only one paper, accounting for 87.7% (1275/1435),and their papers accounted for 77.9% of the total published papers (1275 /1636).27 authors had high yield of 3 or more papers published and deep influence, and they published 95 papers (5.8%).The degree of cooperation was 4.6 (7599 /1636),and the cooperation rate was 93.8% (1534/1636) within the five years. Conclusions 《Chinese Journal of Geriatrics》is quite influential and attractive in the fields of geriatrics, and a good cooperative relationship is displayed between different authors and authors' institutions.

AIM: To analyze the application on frequency domain optical coherence tomography ( OCT ) technology of pathologic myopia optic disc neurosensory retinal thickness changes and its relationship with axis oculi, sex and age, and help for the early diagnosis of pathological myopia and primary open angle glaucoma.
METHODS:Collected 96 eyes of normal eyes ( axis oculi 23-24mm) and 153 eyes of pathologic myopia eyes ( axis oculi 25-27mm 80 eyes, >27mm 73 eyes). We measured the thickness of nerve fiber layer of the optic disc by OCT and analyzed their relationship with axis oculi, sex and age with multiple linear regression analysis.
RESULTS: The observation group showed significant smaller average thickness of peripapillary, superior, inferior, nasal than the control group ( P<0. 05 ); the difference in the temporal quadrant between the groups were no statistically significant differences (P>0. 05); The partial correlation coefficient of peripapillary average thickness of nerve fiber layer and axis oculi was -1. 31, gender was 5. 21, age was -0. 12.
CONCLUSION:The thickness of nerve fiber layer of the optic disc in the pathologic myopia eyes are decreased than normal eyes, axis oculi, sex and age are influenced factors. The pathologic myopia patients should use different index combined with optic nerve fiber layer thickness decreased to help for the diagnosis of early primary open angle glaucoma.

To investigate the assessed value of serum lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) for short-term efficacy of transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE). Methods: Serum concentrations of LDH and VEGF from 70 patients with primary liver cancer on the 1st day before therapy and the 3rd, 7th, 14th, and 21st day after TACE ther-apy was determined. The benefit group includes complete remission, partial remission, and stable disease, while the invalid group in-cludes only disease progression. Results:The serum levels of LDH and VEGF in the invalid group were significantly higher than those in the benefit group on the 14th and 21st days after TACE (P<0.05). The percentage changes of the serum concentrations of LDH and VEGF in the invalid group were higher than those in the benefit group on the 21st day after TACE. Percentage changes on the 21st day after TACE were drawn into the ROC curve;the areas under the curve were 65.9%and 85.5%. The optimal cutoff points of LDH and VEGF, which correspond to the Youden index, were 0.272 and 0.745, respectively. Conclusion:The expression levels of VEGF and LDH can be used to assess the short-term efficacy of TACE. A lower expression level corresponds to short-term efficacy.

Objective To summarize the operative experience of transumbilical single-port laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Method The clinical data of 15 patients underwent transumbilical singleport laparoscopic cholecystectomy between May to October in 2010 was reviewed. Results The operative time was 30-85(45±16) min, hospitalization time was (2.5 ± 1.1 ) d. No surgical complications such as bile leak or uncontrolled hemorrhage occurred postoperatively. All the incision were healed well and the surgical scar was virtually concealed whithin the umbilicus. Conclusions Transumbilical single-port laparoscopic cholecystectomy is feasible and safe when patients are well selected. Comparing with conventional laparoscopic cholecystectomy, it's more manipulatively difficult.

Objective: To observe the effects of medicinal extract for tonifying kidney to relieve asthma on glucocorticoid receptor (GR) expression in rats with asthma, and to explore its mechanism in treating asthma. Methods: Sixty SD rats were randomly divided into normal control group, untreated group, dexamethasone group, and medicinal extract-prevented, medicinal extract-treated, and medicinal extract-prevented and -treated groups, with ten rats in each group. Asthma was induced by intraperitoneal injection of ovalbumin (OVA) and forced inhalation of atomized OVA. Expression of GR in lung tissues was detected by immunohistochemical method. Pathological changes of the lung tissues were observed by HE straining. Results: Expression of GR was lower in the untreated group than in the normal control group (P<0.05). Expressions of GR in medicinal extract groups were up-regulated as compared with those in the untreated group and dexamethasone group (P<0.05, P<0.01), and there were no significant differences as compared with the normal control group (P>0.05). Conclusion: Medicinal extract for tonifying kidney to relieve asthma can increase the expression of GR in lung tissues of asthmatic rats, which may be one of its mechanisms in preventing and treating asthma.
