Objective:To observe the clinical effect of acupuncture on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and the improvements of patients’ pulmonary ventilation function and 6-minute walk test (6-MWT) distance. Methods:A total of 80 COPD patients [grade 3-4 in Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD), qi deficiency of the lung and kidney in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) pattern] were randomly allocated into a treatment group (n=40) and a control group (n=40). Salmeterol Xinafoate and Fluticasone Propionate powder (Seretide,50μg/250μg) for inhalation was used for basic treatment in both groups (once in the morning and once in the evening). Patients in the treatment group received acupuncture at Feishu (BL 13), Shenshu (BL 23), Qihai (CV 6), Guanyuan (CV 4), Dingchuan (EX-B 1), Danzhong (CV 17) and Zusanli (ST 36) twice a week for 3 months. After 3 months of treatment, clinical effects, lung ventilation functions and 6-MWT distance were observed and compared in the two groups. Results:After 3 months of treatment, the total effective rate was 95.0% in the treatment group, versus 80.0% in the control group, showing a statistical difference (P<0.05); the phlegm expectoration, dyspnea and shortness of breath were more significantly improved in the treatment group than those in the control group (P<0.01,P<0.05); and the 6-MWT distance and forced expiratory volume in 1 second percentage of predicted value (FEV1%) were more significantly improved in the treatment group than those in the control group (P<0.05,P<0.01). Conclusion:Seretide inhaler combined with acupuncture can improve signs and symptoms in COPD patients, increase the 6-MWT distance, improve FEV1% and obtain better results than Seretide alone.

AIM:Activin A,a member of transforming growth factor superfamily,is the negative regulator factor in liver regeneration. In this study, the effects of extract of Ginkgo Biloba on hepatic fibrosis and the expression of Activin A in rats with cirrhosis were investigated. METHODS:The experiment was performed at in the Central Laboratory of Wuhan First Hospital from September 2005 to December 2006. ①Thirty-six male SD rats of(160?20) g were randomized into 3 groups:control group, model group and treatment group. ② Except the rats in the control group, others were intraperitoneally injected with 500 mL/L CCl4 for 8 weeks to establish models of hepatic fibrosis. Meanwhile, the extract treatment group was infused with the extract of Ginkgo Biloba(Chinese drugs preparation laboratory of Wuhan First Hospital, detected by Hubeu Wushi Medicine Industry Co.,Ltd. No. 02-391) daily for 8 weeks. ③After administration, all anesthetized rats were sacrificed. Blood samples were collected for the determination of liver function biochemical indexes. Liver tissue samples were used for histopathological examinations. The expression of Activin A was determined by immunohistochemistry and RT-PCR. RESULTS:All 36 rats were involved in the final analysis. ①The liver function in extract treatment group was significantly improved compared with that in model group. ②The grade of fibrosis in extract treatment group were remarkably lower than that in model group under light microscope. ③The positive staining of Activin A in treatment group was significantly reduced compared with model group. ④The expression of Activin A mRNA in extract treatment group was significantly reduced compared with model group. CONCLUSION:Extract of Ginkgo Biloba can effectively decrease the expression of Activin A in rats with hepatic fibrosis caused by CCl4,and lessen the degree of hepatic fibrosis.

Objective To study renal involvement in hepatic glycogen storage disease(GSD) in childhood. Methods One hundred and eight patients aged less than 21 years old with type Ⅰa GSD (54 cases), type Ⅲ (29 cases) and uncertain type hepatic GSD (25 cases). Urine analysis, urine albumin, urine protein of 24 h, urine ?_2-MG, BUN, creatinine, Ccr were evaluated. Results Of 108 patients with hepatic GSD, 16 patients (20.8%) had proteinuria proven by urine albumin or urine protein of 24 h, their ages first found proteinuria were 8~15 years. Two 15-year-old patients had proteinuria over 1.0g/24h. Among 72 patients, urine ?_2-MG of 51 cases (70.8%) increased (175~10 623mg/L), and the mean urine ?_2-MG of type Ⅰ a GSD was much higher than that of type Ⅲ GSD, 4138.2 and 1790.1mg/L respectively. Of 91 patients, 10 had renal insufficiency, 1/10 (15-year-old girl) had heavy proteinuria (3.5g/24h), elevated BUN (9.3mmol/L) and Scr(1061 ?mol/L). Five elder patients (11~21 years old) had hematuria with renal colic caused by renal calculus. Conclusions Persistent protenuria, increased urine ?_2-MG, decreased Ccr, and renal stones are common complications of hepatic GSD in childhood. Renal function should be thoroughly evaluated during follow-up.

Objective To explore the biological effects of the luteinizing hormone receptor (LHR) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) on the ovary of mice during peri-implantation. Methods The immunohistochemistry SABC method and image analysis were used to study the distribution and changes of the LHR and VEGF in Kunming mouse( n =28) ovary during estrous, pregnancy of day 1, day 4 and day 6 stage. Results The expression of LHR-immunoreactive substance and that of VEGF-immunoreactive substance had the same distribution and changes. Compared with other groups, the level of LHR-immunoreactive substance and that of VEGF-immunoreactive substance increased highly on the stroma cells around largergrowing follicles in estrous group ( P <0.05). Along with the pregnancy, the positive immunostaining for LHR and VEGF increased gradually on the granulosa lutein cells, and reached the highest level on day 6 of pregnancy. Positive immunostaining for LHR or VEGF on some endothelia and blood cells were observed in day 1 of pregnancy or estrous group respectively. Form day 1 of pregnancy, the theca cells had positive immunostaining for LHR. Conclusion The expression of LHR and VEGF is closely related with the process of follicle growing, ovulation and corpus luteum formation.

BACKGROUND: Research has showed that the abnormal expression of some proteins closely relates to the occurrence and development of cerebral glioma. However, the relationship between the abnormal expression of CyelinD1protein and the occurrence, development and prognosis of glioma is still uncertain which needs further study.OBJECTIVE: To study the expression of CyclinD1 protein in cerebral glioma and relationship between it and the impact of tumor DESIGN: Control study based on pathological specimens.SETTING: Neurosurgery department of a university hospital.PARTICIPANTS: Totally 48 glioma specimens of different malignaut degree were collected from the patients who accepted surgery treatment in Neurosurgery Department of Second Hospital of Xi' an Jiaotong University during January 1990 and December 1995. Twelve normal cerebral specimens were from the non-tumor patients who were conducted intracranial pressure reducing in Neurosurgery Department of Second Hospital of Xi' an Jiaotong University during January 1990 and December 1995.METHODS: S-P immunohistochemical technique was used to detect the abnormal expression of Cyclin D1 protein. Simultaneously, the dyeing results and clinical characters of patients were associated in order to conduct comparison.RESULTS: The positive expression rate of CyclinD1 protein in human cerebral glioma was 54. 12% while in normal cerebral tissue it was about 8.33%. There was significant difference between them(x2 =8. 148 1,P = 0. 004 3 ) . And the positive expression rate in cerebral glioma of low malignancy was 37.04% while in specimens of high malignancy it was 76.19%, there was significant difference (x2 = 7. 294 0, P = 0. 006 9). The positive expression rate of CyclinD1 protein in specimens of patients with long survival period and short survival period after surgery was 70. 37% and 33.33% respectively with significant difference between them (x2 = 6. 5268,P =0.010 6).CONCLUSION: CyclinD1 is closely related to the occurrence and development of human cerebral glioma. It has provided experimental evidence for the prevention to the occurrence of glioma and the estimation of its prognosis by studying the abnormal proliferation of glioma cells targeted on CyclinD1.
