Objective To investigate the efficacy of the first radioiodine (131 I) ablation of residual thyroid on differentiated thyroid carcinomas after surgery and to analyze the influential factors for efficacy.Methods All 91 differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC) patients were treated with 131I after surgery.According to pathologic types of the tumor,surgical options,and time interval between surgery and radioiodine treatment,patients were divided into different groups,then the efficacy was observed.Results Fifty of 91 patients (54.9％) achieved successful thyroid remnant ablation after the first dose.The success rate of first ablation of residual thyroid tissues had no relationship with the pathologic type of the tumor(P ＞ 0.05).While it was statistically related to the surgical options,among which patients undertaking the total thyroidectomy possessed the highest success rate (79.3％)(P ＜0.05).Ninety one patients were divided into 3 groups according to the time interval between surgery and radioiodine ablation:group less than 3 months (3M group),group from 3 to 12 months (3 ～ 12 M group),group beyond 12 months (12M).Among them,the 3M group possessed the highest success rate (68.0％) (P ＜0.05).Conclusions There would be better effect of the first ablation of residual thyroid tissues with total thyroidectomy,ablation conducted within 3 months after surgery.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the quantity and species distribution of diatoms in Chuanyang River of Pudong new area of Shanghai and provide references for the invesitigation of water body in forensic practice. METHODS: The water samples collected from 15 areas in Chuanyang River of Pudong new area in September 2012 were examined by microscope to identify the species of diatoms. RESULTS: Cyclotella and Pinnularia were found to be the dominant species within the 12 species of diatoms in Chuanyang River, which showed differences in species among the sections of Huangpu River, the center and the East China Sea. CONCLUSION The differences in subsectional distribution of diatom species in Chuanyang River may provide a new foundation for forensic identification in drowning cases especially in the determination of falling location.

Objective The purpose of this study was to use diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) alone or in combination to observe the distribution of white matter lesions and cortical malfunctional areas in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infected patients with mild cognitive decline and to explore the relationship between the DTI and the rs-fMRI methods.Methods Twenty-six HIV infected patients with mild cognitive impairment and 30 healthy volunteers were selected by Montreal Cognitive Asessment (MoCA) scale evaluation.DTI data and rs-fMRI data were obtained,fractional anisotropy (FA) value images were obtained with voxel based analysis and the resting-state default mode network (DMN),functional connectivity images were obtained with cingulate gyrus as a seed point.Overlay images were obtained with FA,DMN and Ch2 standard images.Results Compared with the control group,the white matter FA values were significantly decreased in the left precuneus(t=4.0499,P＜0.005) and right precuneus (t=5.1553,P＜0.005),right superior frontal gyrus(t=5.1517,5.1484,P＜0.005),right middle frontal gyrus (t=4.1444,P＜0.005),right precentral gyrus (t=3.7395,P＜0.005),right occipital lobe (t=7.2236,P＜0.005),and right inferior parietal lobule (t=4.1450,P＜0.005) in acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) patients.In resting-state default mode network,areas significantly related to cingulate gyrus seed point included the left cingulate gyrus (t =32.78,P＜0.005),left precuneus (t =4.51,P＜0.005),left superior frontal gyrus (t =14.33,4.53,P＜0.005),left middle temporal gyrus (t =10.01,5.72,P＜ 0.005),left inferior temporal gyrus (t =5.99,P＜0.005),left parahippocampal gyrus (t =7.63,P＜0.005),right posterior cingulate (t =34.81,P＜0.005),right precuneus (t=32.09,P＜0.005),right superior frontal gyrus(t =14.12,P＜0.005),right middle frontal gyrus (t=17.71,P＜0.005),right superior temporal gyrus (t=14.59,P＜0.005),and right middle temporal gyrus (t=11.83,P＜0.005); while areas not significantly related to the cingulate gyrus seed point included the left precuneus (t =5.39,P＜0.01),left anterior cingulate gyrus (t =3.66,P＜0.01),left cerebellar tonsils (t =7.51,P＜0.01),right superior parietal lobule (t=4.44,P＜0.01),right parahippocampa gyrus (t =3.69,P＜0.01),and right cerebellar tonsil (t=6.15,P＜0.01).Overlayed images showed that the white matter FA value of the left precuneus were decreased and the functional activitis of the corresponding cortex were significantly decreased; while the white matter FA values of the left precuneus,right precuneus,right superior frontal gyrus,right middle frontal gyrus were decreased without affection of the functional activity of the corresponding cortex in AIDS patients.Conclusion White matter nerve fiber disconnection of multiple brain regions and its corresponding cortical function decline with compensatory activity co-participated in the pathogenesis of AIDS mild cognitive decline.

OBJECTIVETo explore biomechanical properties and stress-strain of mucosa scars after cleft palate surgery.

METHODSAfter the model of mucosa scars was made, the mucosa scars and normal mucosa were excised and examined immediately by tensionometry.

RESULTSThe mucosa scars after cleft palate surgery were compared with normal mucosa. The Poisson's ratio of mucosa scars and normal mucosa was 0.5 and 0.49, respectively, showing no significant difference between the two groups. The ultimate Young's modulus of mucosa scars was about 24.22 MPa, however, it declined to 3.32 Mpa in normal mucosa.

CONCLUSIONSThe mucosa scars after cleft palate surgery are biomechanically weaker than normal mucosa. It can be used for further research, such as maxillary orthognathic surgery, distraction osteogenesis, and orthodontic treatment.

Objective To investigate the present status of early diagnosis and misdiagnosis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Methods A total of 50 patients diagnosed as NPC were recruited at the department of nasopharyngeal carcinoma in our hospital. The time from that patients felt discomfort to be diagnosed of NPC was determined bydifferent symptoms and signs. Furthermore , the status of misdiagnosis were also investigated. The spearmans rank correlation was used to analyze the correlation between the cancer stage and the time of confirmeddiagnosis , and the relationship between the rate of misdiagnosed and the rank of the hospital they visited. The χ2 test was then used to analyze the cancer stage with the time when they were diagnosed. Results Results indicated that the time when patients were diagnosed significantly correlated with pTNM stage (P < 0.05). Patients diagnosed in one month were most at stage Ⅱ, diagnosed in six months were stage III, and diagnosed after twelve months were stage Ⅳ(P < 0.05). Furthermore, we found that the rate of misdiagnosis of NPC was 12%. Moreover,the misdiagnosed rate was associated with the rank of the hospital patients visited. Discussion In conclusion , the present status of the early diagnosis of NPC is not optimistic. Most of the patients with NPC were misdiagnosed in basic medical institutions , especially in town or village health center. Thus, it is important to popularize the health knowledge about the secondary prevention of NPC and train the doctor in basic medical institutions.

OBJECTIVETo observe the effect of Yiqi Huoxue Qingre Huashi Recipe (YHQHR, a recipe capable of supplementing qi, activating blood, clearing heat, and dissipating dampness) on ulcer healing and Helicobacter pylori (Hp) eradication rate in Hp positive peptic ulcer patients, and to explore coccoid Hp occurrence in the eradication.

METHODSTotally 80 Hp positive peptic ulcer patients were assigned to the treatment group and the control groups by random digit table, 40 in each group. All patients received standard triple therapy of Western medicine for 2 successive weeks. Those in the control group additionally took omeprazole enteric coated tablet, 20 mg each time, once per day for 4 successive weeks. Those in the treatment group additionally took YHQHR, twice per day for 6 successive weeks. The ulcer healing was observed and recorded by gastroscope after discontinued medication of 14 days. The effective rate of ulcer healing under endoscope was statistically calculated. Rapid urease test (RUT) was performed in one small piece of tissue from corpora ventriculi and sinuses ventriculi using 14C breathe test (UBT). Gastric juice was collected from the stomach. Hp urease gene amplification test (urea A-PCR) was performed in living tissue from gastric antrum. Results obtained from the above three test methods were recorded and assessed to decide the final eradiation rate. Gastric mucosa tissue was observed under electron microscope,attempting to find non-eradicated Hp, which was further observed.

RESULTSThe total curative effect under gastroscope was 97.5% (39/40 cases) in the treatment group, obviously higher than that in the control group (80.0%, 32/40 cases) (P < 0.05). The eradication rate of Hp was 75.0% (30/40 cases), obviously better than that of the control group (52.5%, 21/40 cases) (P < 0.05). The total positive Hp numbers after treatment was 14C UBT (12), RUT (8), and urea A-PCR (27), respectively. The Hp positive rate detected by 14C UBT and RUT was lower than the Hp positive rate detected by urea A-PCR (P < 0.05). Rod-like and coccoid Hp bacteria could be observed under electron microscope.

CONCLUSIONYHQHR combined standard triple therapy was more effective than standard triple therapy alone in promoting ulcer healing and elevating the eradication rate of Hp.

Objective The radiotherapy resistance is one of important causes for nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC) treatment failure.Junctional adhesion molecule A(JAMA)is closely correlated with the tumor poor prognosis.Thus this experiment is to in vestigate the relationship between JAMA expression and the radiosensitivity of NPC.Methods To overexpress or interfere the JAMA expression in CNE2 and HONE1 cell lines.Then different doses of X-ray were adopted to conduct irradiation.The cell clone formation capacity and cellular apoptosis change were detected after 24 h.The role of JAMA in the NPC radiotherapy was understand.The related signal pathway protein in cell lines with different JAMA expression was detected by Western blot.Results The cell lines with low JAMA expression were more sensitive to radiotherapy:After low JAMA expression,the D0 value in the CNE2 cell line was decreased from 3.26 ±0.78 to 1.92 ± 0.23;the Dq value was decreased from 46.51 ± 4.27 to 32.12 ± 3.19.The radio therapy induced apoptosis was significantly increased in the cell lines with low JAMA expression,after low JAMA expressing,thcellular apoptosis was elevated from 6.9 ％ ± 0.9 ％ to 13.7 ％ ± 1.3 ％;the HONE1 cellular apoptosis was elevated from 6.5 ％ + 1.1 ％ to 12.3 ％ ± 1.7％;JAMA overexpression cell lines were significantly decreased.The preliminary mechanism research results showed that JAMA played the effect via Akt signal pathway.Conclusion This research results verifiy that JAMA expression level is closely correlated with the radiosensitivity of NPC cell line:JAMA can increase the radiotherapy resistance of NPC cell lines,which provides a new feasible research direction for NPC enhancing radiosensitivity.

Objective To identify the role of miR-124 in regulating the radiosensitivity and the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Methods Transient transfection of cells with miR-124 mimic or inhibitor was performed and wound-healing assay was used to investigate the role of miR-124 in the EMT of NPC. The apoptosis affected by miR-124 was also measured after irradiation , followed by investigating the cell proliferation by EdU assay. Finally , proteins of Akt and ERK associated with EMT and radiosensitivity, were measured by western blot. Results The migration index from NPC cell line indicated that miR-124 repressed the EMT. The results from caspase-3 activity assay showed that caspase-3 activity after irradiation significantly increased in miR-124 mimic group compared with the control group (P < 0.01). It was also confirmed that irradiation led to a higher percentage of apoptosis in miR-124 group compared with the control group in NPC cells. Cell proliferation after irradiation was significantly decreased in MiR-124 group as compared with control group . MiR-124 inhibited the protein expression of p-Akt . Conclusion MiR-124 may repress the EMT and decrease radio-resistance of NPC via p-Akt signaling pathway , which may provide a new insight into radio-resistance in NPC.

Objective: To analyze the relationship between thrombin activatable fibrinolysis inhibitor ( TAFI ) and coronary heart disease ( CHD ), and to provide evidence for the prevention of CHD. Methods: The patients with CHD in Fushun Central Hospital in Liaoning Province were selected as the case group, the patients without CHD in the same hospital and period were selected as the control group. The demographic information and clinical examination results ( serum TAFI, lipid, glucose, etc. ) were collected to analyze the association between TAFI and CHD by logistic regression models.The multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to explore the relationship between TAFI and CHD. Results: There were 222 cases, including 100 cases of stable angina, 44 cases of unstable angina and 78 cases of acute myocardial infarction, and 222 controls. The median ages of cases and controls were 62 and 57 years old. The results of multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that serum TAFI>22.88 μg/mL ( P75 of controls ) was associated with the risk of CHD ( OR=1.619, 95%CI: 1.011-2.593 ), unstable angina ( OR=2.917, 95%CI: 1.433-5.939 ) and acute myocardial infarction ( OR=2.626, 95%CI: 1.007-6.847 ). Conclusion The high level of TAFI is related to CHD, unstable angina and acute myocardial infarction.

OBJECTIVE: This study was designed to prove simultaneously blocking both EGFR and COX-2-mediated pathways may be an efficient means of inhibiting cancer cell growth in NPC. METHOD: A combination of tarceva (EGFR-selective tyrosine kinase inhibitors) with celecoxib (Cox-2 inhibitor) was studied on its effects on cell growth, cell cycle progression, apoptosis and protein expression in CNE-2 cell lines by cell growth assay, flow cytometric analysis assay and Western blotting. RESULT: (1) The inhibition rate of cell growth was higher in the group treated with a combination of two agents than that the sum of rates of the two groups treated with only one agent (P < 0.05). (2) The combination of tarceva with celecoxib significantly induced G1 arrest (P < 0.05), but did not increase apoptosis rate (P > 0.05). (3) The group of combination showed less expressions of p-EGFR and COX-2 than any other group. CONCLUSION Simultaneously blocking EGFR and COX-2 mediated pathways would significantly inhibit the growth of CNE-2 cell line, increase G1 arrest and reduce the expression levels of p-EGFR and COX-2.
