BACKGROUND: For treatment of femoral neck fracture, all therapies with the exception of joint replacement encounter the problems including slow healing, poor prognosis, various complications, and unable to bear weight for long time. Fracture hip supporting joint (FHSJ) is a novel unlimited hip support implement that possesses the double functions of fracture fixation and joint supporting and can be used to prevent and treat the complications of femoral neck fracture in young people.OBJECTIVE: To investigate the mechanical effects of FHSJ on treatment of femoral neck fracture.METHODS: Three types of two-dimensional finite element models were constructed by AutoCAD: normal hip (group A), femoral neck fracture fixed with two screws (group B), and femoral neck fracture fixed with two screws and FHSJ (group C). The grids of two-dimensional four nodal point elements were divided by ANSYS (PLANE82). Under the identical condition, the calculations were performed respectively.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The stress peak value of femoral head weight-bearing zone was 1.029 and 1.63 MPa in group A and group B, respectively, and that in the group C was 0.1-0.4 MPa. The stress peak value of the screws was 37.186 and 7.474 MPa in the group B and group C, respectively. These results indicate that FHSJ installation based on fixation of multiple screws could promote the recovery of femoral head and neck, which exhibits promising prospects in treatment of femoral neck fracture in young people.

This study developed a novel approach of targeting malignant glioma with pMAGE-A1(278-286)-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) induced from the peripheral blood mononuclear cells of healthy donors by multiple stimulations with human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-A2-restricted pMAGE-A1(278-286) peptide-pulsed dentritic cells. Cytotoxic assays were performed by the colorimetric CytoTox 96 assay to analyze cytotoxic activity of the induced CTLs against various target cells. The induced CTLs showed approximately 45% specific lysis against T2pMAGE-A1(278-286) (pMAGE-A1(278-286) peptide pulsed T2 cells) and U251 (HLA-A2(+), MAGE-A1(+)) at an effector:target ratio of 40:1, and approximately 5% cytolysis against T2pHIV, A172 (HLA-A2(-), MAGE-A1(+)), K562 and T2 cells without being pulsed with peptide at any effector:target ratio. The specific killing activity of the induced CTLs against T2pMAGE-A1(278-286) and U251 was much more obvious than in any other control group (P<0.05). The cytotoxic activity against the T2pMAGE-A1(278-286) and U251 was significantly eliminated by anti-HLA class I mAb W6/32. These results suggest that pMAGE-A1(278-286) epitope may serve as a surrogate tumor antigen target of specific immunotherapy for treating HLA-A2 patients with malignant glioma.

Objective To explore the effects of ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) on the fluidity of rat visceral sac and placental glutathione (GSH) concentration in rats with intrahepatic cholestasis. Methods Sixty rats were randomly divided into 3 groups (20 in each). Refined vegetable oil 2.5 ml/(kg?d) was given to the control group since the 13 days of pregnancy. The ICP treatment and non treatment group received either progesterone 75 mg/(kg?d) or 17? ethynylestradiol 1.25 mg/ (kg?d) from the 13th to 17th day, respectively. From the 17th day, the control and non treatment group were fed with 0.9% nitrachloride solution 5 mg/(kg?d) and the treatment group with UDCA 50 mg/(kg?d). All rats were sacrificed on the 21st day. The visceral yolk sac cell membrane and GSH concentration were measured Results The concentration of GSH in the ICP non treatment group (1.12?0.02 mmol/g protein) was significantly lower than that of the treatmentgroup (1.38?0.03 mmol/g protein) and the control group (1.56?0.07 mmol/g protein) ( P 0.05). The fetal death rate in treatment group (9.55%) and control group (1.97%) was significantly lower than that of the non treatment group (20.47%) ( P

Objective To discuss the correlation between the VEGF-C/D expressions in tumor associated macrophage (TAM) and lymph node metastasis in colon cancer. Methods Forty-five colon cancer samples proven pathologically to be adenocarcinoma were stained by immunohistochemical method for VEGF-C/D and CD68. The correlation of VEGF-C/D expressions, macrophage counting and lymph node metastasis were analyzed statistically. Results The expressions of VEGF-C/D were detected in TAMs. VEGF-C expression was obviously higher in the samples with lymphatic metastasis. VEGF-C expression in colon cancer was related to the number of TAMs. Conclusion TAMs are important in the lymph node metastasis, because they can express VEGF-C/D and affect the lymphangiogenesis of colon cancer.

The purpose of this study is to explore depression metabolic markers in rat hippocampus and to investigate the anti-depressant effect of genipin and its mechanisms using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) metabonomics. Chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) procedure was conducted to establish the depressive rat model. At the beginning of the third week, genipin low dose (25 mg x kg(-1)), middle dose (50 mg x kg(-1)), high dose (100 mg x kg(-1)), and venlafaxine (50 mg x kg(-1)) were given to the CUMS rats separately once daily for two weeks except control and model groups. Rat hippocampus was analyzed by 1H NMR based metabonomics after drug administration for 2 weeks. Significant differences in the metabolic profile of rat hippocampus of the CUMS treated group and the control group were observed with metabolic effects of CUMS including decreasing in glycine and N-acetylaspartate, increasing in inositol, glutamate, lactate, glutamine, taurine and alanine. Genipin showed ideal antidepressive effects at a dose of 50 mg x kg(-1) in rats, decrease of inositol, glutamate, lactate, alanine were observed, while glycine and N-acetylaspartate were increased. Important influence has been found on normal nervous system function of these significant changed metabolites, which suggests that the antidepressant effect of genipin may be played by enhancing the activity of neurons in hippocampus, repairing and improving the function of the neuron. The metabonomics approach is an effective tool for the investigation of the anti-depressant effect and pharmacologic mechanisms of genipin.

ObjectiveTo investigate the clinical significance of admission hemoglobin (Hb) value for posttransplantation early respiratory complications in cirrhotic hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients undergoing liver transplantation (LT).MethodsBetween April 2001 and February 2010,the medical record of 100 consecutive liver recipients at First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medial University were retrospectively reviewed. Pulmonary complications developed in 45 patients after LT. Using bivariate correlation analysis between the admission Hb value and pulmonary complications screened for the threshold value of admission Hb value affecting early-phase pulmonary complications.According to the threshold value of admission Hb,LT recipients could be divided into two groups. Twenty-seven peri-operative clinical parameters were analyzed in the two groups.ResultsAdmission Hb ≤ 100 g/L was the threshold value affecting postoperative pulmonary complications. The duration of time to initial passage of flatus and the ICU length of stay were significantly prolonged in patients with admission Hb values ≤ 100 g/L,in which poorer arterial blood gas analyses were common. ConclusionsThe admission Hb value of patients with cirrhosisassociated hepatocellular carcinoma affects the early-phase prognosis after LT.
