Objective To evaluate the clinical application of automated urine formed elements analyzer and/or urine dipstick analyzer for examination of urinary formed elements in screening urinary tract infection (UTI). Methods 148 fresh midstream clear-catch urine samples from the UTI patients and 284 fresh midstream clear-catch urine samples from non-UTI subjects were selected. Bacteria culture was performed for bacterial colony counting and identification. Bacteria counts ( BACT), yeast-like fungus and WBC were performed by UF-looOi automated urine formed elements analyzer. Leukocyte esterase test (LEU) and nitrite test (NIT) were performed by URISYS 2400 urine dipstick analyzer. We evaluated data obtained from urine dipstick analyzer, UF-1000i and combination of UF-1000i with urine dipstick analyzer and the results was compared with those obtained from quantitative bacterial culture. Then we evaluated the sensibility, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV) and accuracy. Results Among the 148 patients with UTI, the positive rate of the quantitative bacterial culture was 73.6% (109/148), the positive rate of LEU and NIT detected by dipstick test 26. 4% (39/148).There was significantly statistical difference between bacterial culture and strip test(χ2 = 55.68 ,P < 0. 05 ). The positive rate of urine flow cytometry by UF-1000i with either positive of BACT and WBC was 91.2%(135/148), which was higher than the positive rate of the quantitative bacterial culture. There was significant difference between two methods (χ2 = 14. 70, P < 0. 05 ). The positive rate of anyone positive among BACT, WBC, LEU and NIT was 94. 6% (140/148) when detected with combination of dipstick test and UF-1000i, which was higher than the positive rate of the quantitative bacterial culture. And there was significant difference between two methods (χ2 = 20. 45, P < 0. 05 ). The sensitivity of dipstick test was low (26. 4% ,39/148 ), and specificity was high ( 99. 3%, 282/284 ) . The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value of BACT detected by UF-1000i in diagnosing urinary tract infection were 92. 6% ( 137/148 ), 39. 8% ( 113/284 ). 44. 5% ( 137/308 ) and 91.1% ( 113/124 ), respectively. If the dipstick test was combined with UF-1000i, the sensitivity, negative predictive value, specificity, positive predictive value and accuracy were 98.0% ( 145/148 ), 97.1% ( 100/103 ). 35.2% (100/284) ,44. 1% (145/329) and 56. 7% (245/432), respectively. Conclusions The combination of urine dipstick test and automated urine formed elements analyzer UF-1000i plays an important role in early diagnosis of UTI. And it has significant value in diagnosis of UTI, especially for the patients with negative bacterial cultures of urine sample.

Objective To synthesize antimicrobial bioceramic using chitosan and calcium phosphate cements mixed with ceftriaxone sodium. Methods The bioceramic was synthesized through the hardening of chitosan liquid combined with calcium phosphate cements and cefiriaxone sodium.The released ceftriaxone sodium was studied according to the linear equation between UV-VIS absorbance to concentration.The in vitro bactefiostatic effect of the chosen bioceramic was investigated via the microbiological method.The model of rats'contaminated bone defect were deployed to study the antimicrobial performance of the bioceramic. Results The best synthesis condition was chosen at:0.1g calcium phosphate cements and 10.4 mg ceftriaxone sodium combined with 2.4 ml hardening liquid C.then keeping the mixture at 60℃ and 100%humidity for 24 h.In vitro release of the resulting antimicrobial bioceramic remained stable,while that of ceftriaxone sodium lasted for a week,higher than the minimal inhibitory concentration(MIC) of Staphylococcus aureus.As proved by the WBC number and tissue sectioning,a lighter inflammatory response of treatment group was observed as compared with the control group. Conclusion The antimicrobial bioceramic combined with chitosan and ceftriaxone sodium shows promising antimicrobial performance.

Objective To investigate the differential diagnostic value of computed tomography (CT) combined with serum tumor markers in borderline ovarian tumors (BOT) and benign epithelial ovarian tumors (BET).Methods The CT data in 28 patients with BOT and 41 patients with BET,both confirmed by surgery and pathological,were analyzed retrospectively.Their preoperative serum carbohydrate antigen 125 (CA125),human epididymis secretory protein 4 (HE4) and carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) detection results were collected.The CT images features and serum tumor markers levels were compared between the two groups.Results The difference in the appearance rate of tumor solid composition,thick septum and wall nodule between the two groups had statistical significance (x2 =25.135,5.240,5.066,P＜0.05).The serum CA125 level had statistical difference between the two groups (Z=3.202,P＜0.05),while serum HE4 and CEA levels had no statistically significant difference between the two groups(Z=0.330,1.122,P＞0.05).The optimal critical value,sensitivity and specificity of serum CA125 level in differential diagnosis of two kinds of tumor was 42.45 U/mL,53.6％ and 85.4％.The overall diagnostic rate of solid composition and thick septum for diagnosing the two kinds of tumor was 78.5 ％.The overall diagnostic rate of solid composition,thick septum and CA125 level for diagnosing the two kinds of tumor was 81.2％.Conclusion The appearance of solid composition,thick septum and serum CA125 level increase in epithelial ovarian tumor may help to identify BOT and BET.

This paper is to build a finite element model of brain with a real brain shapeon which simulation studies of electrical impedance tomography EIT in the brain is based. A curve of a real brain shape is simulated with the curve-fitting methods and EIT in the brain is finished with finite-element methods and Equipotential Lines Back-Projection algorithm.The locationarea and amplitude of the change of the resistivity are reconstructed accurately. But the image quality has to be further improved.This paper provides a basis for clinical applications of EIT in brain.

Objective To evaluate the role of mitochondrial fusion?fission in endotoxin?induced a?cute lung injury in rats. Methods Twenty healthy male Sprague?Dawley rats, weighing 160-180 g, were e?qually and randomly divided into either control group ( group C ) or endotoxin?induced acute lung injury group (group L) using a random number table. Lipopolysaccharide 5 mg∕kg was injected intravenously in group L, while the equal volume of normal saline 0?5 ml was given instead in group C. The animals were sacrificed at 6 h after administration of lipopolysaccharide or normal saline. The lungs were immediately re?moved for measurement of wet to dry lung weight ratio ( W∕D ratio) , superoxide dismutase ( SOD) activity and malondialdehyde ( MDA) content. The mitochondrial fusion proteins mitofusin 1 ( Mfn1) , Mfn2 and op?tic atrophy 1 ( OPA1) mRNA and protein expression was detected, and mitochondrial fission proteins dy?namin?related protein 1 (Drp1) and fission 1 (Fis1) mRNA and protein expression was also detected in lung tissues. Results Compared to group C, the W∕D ratio and MDA contents in lung tissues were signifi?cantly increased, SOD activity was decreased, Mfn1, Mfn2 and OPA1 mRNA and protein expression in lung tissues was down?regulated, and Drp1 and Fis1 mRNA and protein expression was up?regulated in group L. The pathological damage to lung tissues was obviously aggravated in group L when compared to group C. Conclusion The mechanism underlying endotoxin?induced acute lung injury is related to enhanced oxidative stress responses caused by decreased mitochondrial fusion and increased mitochondrial fission in rats.

The objective of current study was to investigate the quasispecies of hepatitis E virus in swine. The partial ORF2 region of HEV envelope gene from four swine HEV strains was amplified by RT-nested polymerase chain reaction (RT-nPCR). After cloning and transformation of PCR products, 20 positive clones of each HEV isolate were subject to sequencing and DNA analysis. The homology among the different clones of each isolates was 96.8%-99.7%, 98.8%-99.7%, 98.8%-99.7% and 100%, respectively, while there was 96.8%-100% sequence identity at the nucleotide level compared with HEV strains isolated in Shanghai (SAAS-JDY5). This study confirmed that there existed quasispecies of HEV in swine.

OBJECTIVETo obtain the self-concept psychological feature of cleft lip and palate (CLP) adolescents further and accurately, and offer reasons for timely and pointed psychological intervention.

METHODSBased on the procedure and criteria of development of psychological questionnaire, a psychological questionnaire for CLP adolescents was designed. 93 CLP and 88 healthy adolescents were studied by using it and their half-quantified score raging 0-9 were analyzed statistically.

RESULTS(1) There was no statistical difference between CLP and normal adolescents, scored 5.91 and 5.66 respectively, which demonstrated that the self-concept of CLP adolescents was at a normal level without obvious passive tendency. (2) There was no significant difference between genders, but boys were more extroversion while girls did better on being unyielding and releasing strain. (3) CLP adolescents had a higher ability of psychological regulation and could face failure more bravely. CLP patients were in a tendency of protective behavior inhibition, companied less, and maximized delight mood unconsciously to decrease harm from enviroment. (4) CLP adolescents had a good parentage. (5) A majority of patients had low expectation of life-quality. (6) Much of CLP patients considered that speech was more important than appearance.

CONCLUSIONSelf-concept of CLP adolescents have normal self-concept and do better in psychological regulation and dependence than normal ones.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the feasibility of reducing THM precursors and controlling bromate taste and odor in drinking water taken from the Yellow River by an ozonation combined system.

METHODSThe appropriate ozone dosage was determined, and then the changes of TOC, UV254 and THM formation potential (THMFP) in the combined system were evaluated.

RESULTSOne mg/L ozone could effectively remove taste and odor and meet the maximum allowable bromate level in drinking water. The pre-ozonation increased THMFP, but the conventional treatment system could effectively reduce the odor. The bio-ceramic filter could partly reduce CHCl3FP, but sometimes might increase CHCl2BrFP and CHClBr2FP. The biological activated carbon (BAC) filter could effectively reduce CHCl3FP and CHCl2BrFP, but increase CHClBr2FP. Compared with other filters, the fresh activated carbon (FAC) filter performed better in reducing THMFP and even reduced CHClBr2FP.

CONCLUSIONThe combined system can effectively reduce taste, odor, CHCl3FP, and CHCl2BrFP and also bring bromate under control.
