1.Ischemic colitis in mid-aged& elders

Objective The clinical and endoscopic characteristics of ischemic colitis (IC) were retrospectively reviewed. Methods 23 aged patients with IC were included; their symptoms,signs,laboratory findings and endoscopic appearances analysed. Results IC occurred most frequently in mid-aged and elders with predominant presentations as acute onset of lower abdominal pains and bloody stools.Endoscopic lesions located mainly in left colon with segmental distribution.Mucosal edema,erosion and submucosal bleeding were common pathological features.Most lesions (91% ) looked to be nongangrenous, transient and reversible.Only 9 percent of cases turned into chronic stage. Conclusion IC should be suspected in all eldly patients with acute onset of lower abdominal pain and bloody stools.Early colonoscopy is of diagnostic significance.
2.Human immunodeficiency virus-associated mild cognitive function decline: a preliminary study of the combination of diffusion tensor imaging and resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging

Objective The purpose of this study was to use diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) alone or in combination to observe the distribution of white matter lesions and cortical malfunctional areas in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infected patients with mild cognitive decline and to explore the relationship between the DTI and the rs-fMRI methods.Methods Twenty-six HIV infected patients with mild cognitive impairment and 30 healthy volunteers were selected by Montreal Cognitive Asessment (MoCA) scale evaluation.DTI data and rs-fMRI data were obtained,fractional anisotropy (FA) value images were obtained with voxel based analysis and the resting-state default mode network (DMN),functional connectivity images were obtained with cingulate gyrus as a seed point.Overlay images were obtained with FA,DMN and Ch2 standard images.Results Compared with the control group,the white matter FA values were significantly decreased in the left precuneus(t=4.0499,P<0.005) and right precuneus (t=5.1553,P<0.005),right superior frontal gyrus(t=5.1517,5.1484,P<0.005),right middle frontal gyrus (t=4.1444,P<0.005),right precentral gyrus (t=3.7395,P<0.005),right occipital lobe (t=7.2236,P<0.005),and right inferior parietal lobule (t=4.1450,P<0.005) in acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) patients.In resting-state default mode network,areas significantly related to cingulate gyrus seed point included the left cingulate gyrus (t =32.78,P<0.005),left precuneus (t =4.51,P<0.005),left superior frontal gyrus (t =14.33,4.53,P<0.005),left middle temporal gyrus (t =10.01,5.72,P< 0.005),left inferior temporal gyrus (t =5.99,P<0.005),left parahippocampal gyrus (t =7.63,P<0.005),right posterior cingulate (t =34.81,P<0.005),right precuneus (t=32.09,P<0.005),right superior frontal gyrus(t =14.12,P<0.005),right middle frontal gyrus (t=17.71,P<0.005),right superior temporal gyrus (t=14.59,P<0.005),and right middle temporal gyrus (t=11.83,P<0.005); while areas not significantly related to the cingulate gyrus seed point included the left precuneus (t =5.39,P<0.01),left anterior cingulate gyrus (t =3.66,P<0.01),left cerebellar tonsils (t =7.51,P<0.01),right superior parietal lobule (t=4.44,P<0.01),right parahippocampa gyrus (t =3.69,P<0.01),and right cerebellar tonsil (t=6.15,P<0.01).Overlayed images showed that the white matter FA value of the left precuneus were decreased and the functional activitis of the corresponding cortex were significantly decreased; while the white matter FA values of the left precuneus,right precuneus,right superior frontal gyrus,right middle frontal gyrus were decreased without affection of the functional activity of the corresponding cortex in AIDS patients.Conclusion White matter nerve fiber disconnection of multiple brain regions and its corresponding cortical function decline with compensatory activity co-participated in the pathogenesis of AIDS mild cognitive decline.
3.Antimicrobial susceptibility of 487 Mycoplasma strains

Objective To analyze the antimicrobial susceptibility of Mycoplasma isolates for rational antimicrobial therapy. Methods BioM?rieux IST kit was used for identification and susceptibility testing of Mycoplasma strains.Results Mycoplasma was positive in 49.5% of the specimens tested.Of the Mycoplasma detected,Ureaplasma urealyticum(Uu)alone accounted for 74.7%,Mycoplasma huminis(Mh)alone accounted for 18.1%,and Uu+Mh was identified in 7.2% of the patients.The results of antimicrobial susceptibility testing showed that the Mycoplasma isolates were most susceptible to doxycycline (98.1%).Ciprofloxacin was the least active (17.3%).Conclusions Doxyeycline,josamycin,and clarithromycin can be used in the treatment of urinary tract infections caused by Mycoplasma.
4.A survey of chikungunya virus in brain tissue samples from rat like animals in Xiamen, Shenzhen and Guangzhou

Objective To examine the prevalence of chikungunya virus in brain tissue samples from rat?like animals in Xiamen, Shenzhen and Guangzhou, and to explore whether the rat?like animals are potential sources of human chikungunya fever infections and the host of the virus. Methods Rat?like animals were trapped in residential areas, city parks, hospitals, markets and schools in Xiamen, Shenzhen and Guangzhou (Yuexiu and Baiyun districts) between January 2013 and June 2016. Brain tissue samples of the trapped animals were collected under sterile. Chikungunya virus was detected by using reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT?PCR). Results Totally 1092 rat?like animals were trapped, which belonged to 7 species, 3 genera, 2 families, 2 orders. Rattus norvegicus was the dominant species in the indoor environment, Rattus losea was dominant in wild environment, and 1092 brain tissue samples were collected. No detectable chikungunya virus was found in the brain tissue samples by RT?PCR. Conclusion There is a low possibility that rat?like animals act infectious sources of human chikungunya fever infections and the host of the virus.
5.Preliminary clinical report of treatment for neurogenic bladder by sacral neuromodulation using a new tined-lead electrode

ObjectiveTo explore the effects of sacral neuromodulation using a new tined-lead electrode on neurogenic bladder.MethodsThe use of a new tined-lead electrode for sacral neuromodulation was evaluated in a study including 5 consecutive patients with neurogenic bladder.The tined leads were implanted at the S3 foramen under the X-ray screening.Subjects completed the recording of detailed voiding diary pre-and post-operation including fluid intake,voided volume,leaked volume,catheterized volume,frequency,accompanying symptoms and sensation.Vesicourethral function was assessed by video-urodynamics.ResultsUrinary frequency and voided volume were improved 22% and 49% respectively in one patient with spinal bifida.Urinary frequency,voided volume and residual volume were improved 0.7%,11% and 46% respectively in another one.Urinary frequency,voided volume and residual volume were improved 0.4%,18% and 44% respectively in the third one.Frequency of leakage and leaked volume were improved 36% and 54% respectively in the patient with brain trauma.Frequency of CIC and catheterized volume were improved 42% and 54% respectively,and indexes of urodynamics were improved 37%~45% in the patient with spinal cord injury.ConclusionA new tined-lead electrode for sacral neuromodulation provide a new alterative and minimally invasive procedure to treat neurogenic bladder.
6.The effect of ginkgolide B on action potential, L-type calcium current and delayed rectifier potassium current in ischemic guinea pig ventricular myocytes.

AIMTo study the effect of ginkgolide B from Ginkgo leave on action potential (AP), L-type calcium current (I(Ca) - L) and delayed rectifier potassium current (I(K)) in normal and ischemic guinea pig ventricular myocytes.
METHODSWith the standard microelectrode technique to record action potential and whole-cell variant patch-clamp technique to record calcium and potassium current.
RESULTS(1) Under normal condition, ginkgolide B shortened APD and had no effect on RP, AP and V(max). Ginkgolide B also increased I(K) in a concentration dependent manner and had no significant effect on I(Ca) - L (2) Under ischemia condition, it was observed that shortening of APD, APA, decrease V(max) and depolarization of RP was induced by ischemia, but ginkgolide B could attenuate above--mentioned changes. (3) Under ischemia condition, I(Ca) - L and I(K) were inhibited, perfusion with ischemia solution containing ginkgolide B could reverse the decrease of I(Ca) - L and I(K).
CONCLUSIONGinkgolide B had protective effect on ischemic myocardium to prevent ischemic arrhythmia.

7.Repair of hard cleft palate with absorbable membranes made by poly-DL-lactic acid: a feasibility study.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the feasibility and clinical results of applying poly-DL-lactic acid (PDLLA) biomembranes in cleft palate repair.
METHODS68 cleft palate patients were divided into study group and control group. The traditional surgical method was used to control group to close the soft cleft palate, and the PDLLA biomembrane was used to study group and implanted into the surgical gap between the periosteum and bone at the hard palate, and fixed with suture. The duration, blood loss at operation, post-operative complication, wound healing and recovery were recorded and compared to conventional cleft palate repair.
RESULTSOperations were successfully completed on all 34 patients. Wound healing of soft palate and uvula was uneventful with no incidence of fistula or dehiscence. The primary healing on tissue defect of hard palate occurred in 29 patients, secondary healing occurred in 3 patients, permanent fistula between the oral cavity and the nasal cavity occurred in only one patients, and 3 patients left over fistula on alveolar process. Compared to traditional cleft palate repair, blood loss and incidence of fistula on alveolar process were decreased; the average surgical time was 89.25 minutes and was not prolonged; and there was no significant increase in post-operative complication.
CONCLUSIONHard cleft palate repair with PDLLA biomembranes is safe, simple and practical with good clinical results and is beneficial to minimize the bad influences towards the development and growth for maxilla of cleft palate patients.

8. Comparative study of clinical outcomes of robot versus laparoscopic radical surgery for rectal cancer based on propensity score matching

Objective:
To compare the short-term and long-term outcomes of robotic rectectomy and laparoscopic rectectomy for rectal cancer based on propensity score matching.
Methods:
The clinical data of 106 patients who underwent robotic or laparoscopic radical resection of rectal cancer at Department of General Surgery, the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University from January 2015 to December 2015 were retrospectively collected. Propensity score matching method was used to perform 1∶1 matching between robot and laparoscopic rectal cancer radical surgery. Thirty-two patients in robot group and 32 patients in laparoscopic group were successfully matched. There were 15 males and 17 females in the robotic group, aging (56.2±7.5) years, 19 males and 13 females in the laparoscopic group, aged (55.5±7.6) years. OBJECTIVETo evaluate the effects of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy on patients with postbrain injury neural status.
METHODSTwo to 4 courses of HBO therapy and/or medications were used to treat 320 patients who were randomly divided into two groups. Assessment was made with (99m)Tc-ethyl cysteinate dimer ( (99m)Tc-ECD) single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) before and after treatment.
RESULTSThere was a significant difference between the HBO therapy group and the non-HBO therapy group. HBO therapy was superior to medication treatment alone in the recovery of clinical symptoms, control of epilepsy, and resolution of hydrocephalus (P<0.01).
CONCLUSIONSHBO therapy has specific curative effects on patients with postbrain injury neural status, and (99m)Tc-ECD SPECT could play an important role in diagnosing postbrain injury neural status and monitoring the therapeutic effects of HBO.

10.Application of dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging in evaluating liver fibrosis.

OBJECTIVETo analyze the value of time-signal intensity curve (TIC) in dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DEC-MRI) in the evaluation of liver fibrosis.
METHODSThirty-six consecutive patients and healthy volunteers were divided into 4 groups according to the stages of fibrosis, namely the normal group (n=9), mild fibrosis group (n=5), moderate to severe fibrosis group (n=7), and liver cirrhosis group (n=15). All the subjects underwent conventional and DEC-MRI, and the TIC was generated automatically to evaluate the peak height, TTP, MSI and MSD. The correlations between the TIC parameters and the stage of fibrosis were assessed. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analyses were conducted to evaluate the value of the TIC parameters in the evaluation of fibrosis stage.
RESULTSModerate but significant inverse correlations of the peak height, MSI, and to fibrosis stage were noted in these patients (P<0.05); the peak time was positively correlated to the fibrosis stage (P<0.05). In patients with a fibrosis stage ≥1, the AUC of the measured TIC parameters ranged from 0.747 to 0.783, with the MSD of the spleen had the highest AUC (0.783). For a fibrosis stage ≥3, the AUC of the indices ranged between 0.728 and 0.877, highest for liver MSI of the arterial phase, followed by the portal vein MSI, liver MSI of portal venous phase, liver MSD, splenic MSI of arterial phase and splenic MSD. In the diagnosis of liver cirrhosis, the AUC (range 0.742-0.821) decreased in the order of liver MSI of the portal venous phase, liver MSD, liver MSI of the arterial phase, the portal vein MSI, splenic MSI of the arterial phase and splenic MSD.
CONCLUSIONTIC of DEC-MRI can be used to evaluate hemodynamic changes in the liver, and may serve as a practical non-invasive functional imaging modality for assessing the severity of liver fibrosis.
