It is important to detect and prevent Alzheimer disease (AD) at its early stage. Constituting the early stage sign of AD, amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI) has drawn much attention. Studies have shown that donepezil could reduce the AD assessment scale-cognitive subscale (ADAS-Cog) score in MCI patients and improve the patient's attention and speed of response; however, it also has many side effects. Therefore, the authors aim to explore the effects of Chinese herbal medicine for treating aMCI.

Objective To elucidate the etiology feature of viral infection in hospitalized children with acute lower respiratory infection. Methods A total of 5 480 children with acute lower respiratory tract infection, hospitalized from September 2007 to September 2009, were studied. Nasopharyngeal aspirates were screened for 8 types of viruses by direct immunofluorescence (DIF) assay. Results At least one type of viral pathogen was detected in 2 710 out of 5 480 patients and the overall positive rate was 49.5%. The most common virus was RSV (51.1%), followed by hMPV (18.9%), PIVⅢ (12.5%), ADV (7.1%), IFA (4.7%), IFB (2.9%), PIV Ⅰ (1.5%) and PIV Ⅱ (1.2%). The positive rate was highest in children under 6 months (43.5%). The seasonal change of RSV, hMPV was more obvious. The peak of RSV, hMPV appeared in the winter and the spring. The prevalence of viral infection in children with pneumonia, bronchitis, asthmatic bronchitis, non asthmatic bronchitis and asthma were 47.4%、63.6%、 50.5%、 30.1% and 43.5% respectively. Conclusions Viruses are the main cause of lower respiratory tract infections in children, especially in infants and young children. RSV and hMPV were the most common viruses in these years.

Microbiology 2008;0(07):-
Molecular methods and fluoroscopic techniques suggest that rich microbial diversity exist in the marine environment, but less than 1% of these microbes can be cultured in the laboratory conditions, and that the cultivable dominant species were even less. This limitation has long been a barrier to the development of environmental microbiology and the utilization of marine resources. In the past decade, novel methods for culture and detection of these uncultured marine microbes have successfully applied to obtain several conventionally-uncultured microbes including those from extreme environments. Those progresses have inspired researchers greatly. Developments in the research of marine microbial resources are an important basis for the study of the micro-world and deserve increasing scientific attention.

OBJECTIVETo explore biomechanical properties and stress-strain of mucosa scars after cleft palate surgery.
METHODSAfter the model of mucosa scars was made, the mucosa scars and normal mucosa were excised and examined immediately by tensionometry.
RESULTSThe mucosa scars after cleft palate surgery were compared with normal mucosa. The Poisson's ratio of mucosa scars and normal mucosa was 0.5 and 0.49, respectively, showing no significant difference between the two groups. The ultimate Young's modulus of mucosa scars was about 24.22 MPa, however, it declined to 3.32 Mpa in normal mucosa.
CONCLUSIONSThe mucosa scars after cleft palate surgery are biomechanically weaker than normal mucosa. It can be used for further research, such as maxillary orthognathic surgery, distraction osteogenesis, and orthodontic treatment.

Objective To evaluate the left ventricular flow field characteristics in patients with obstructive and non-obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) using vector flow mapping (VFM),then assess the left ventricular hemodynamics. Methods 40 patients with HCM were randomly selected as case group, among which 20 patients with left ventricular outflow tract(LVOT) obstruction (group Ⅰ) and 20 patients without LVOT obstruction(group Ⅱ),40 healthy adult volunteers served as control group. The conventional parameters:left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF),interventricular septal thickness and radial and pressure gradient of left ventricular outflow tract and VFM parameters:left ventricular peak systolic velocity (Vs),systolic flow (Fs),total negative systolic flow (SQ-) and vortex parameters were measured and compared. The correlation between LVOT pressure gradient and VFM parameters were assessed. Results There was no significant difference of LVEF in three groups.Compared with control group, interventricular septal thickness in group Ⅰ and group Ⅱ was much higher(P <0.05).Radius in group Ⅰ was much lower than that of group Ⅱ and pressure gradient of LVOT in group Ⅰ was significantly higher compared with group Ⅱ (P <0.05).Comparison of VFM parameters:①Compared with control group,SQ-of basal segments in case groups were lower (P <0.05),while SQ-of mid and apical segments were higher(P < 0.05),Vs and Fs of all segments increased (P <0.05),and number of vortex, vortex diameter and vorticity of obstruction and non-obstruction groups were higher(P <0.05).②Compared with group Ⅱ,SQ-of basal segments decreased and SQ-of mid and apical segments increased in group Ⅰ,Vs and Fs of all segments were higher. The number of vortex, vortex diameter were higher in group Ⅰ (P < 0.05).③ Correlation analysis:Fs in apex, the number of vortex relatively correlated with press gradient of LVOT(r =0.60,0.65,respectively).Conclusions VFM can effectively evaluate the flow field characteristics of left ventricle in patients with obstructive and non-obstructive HCM,and Fs in apex, number of vortex were correlated with the degree of obstruction, then further assess the left ventricular hemodynamics quantitively.
