Aim To study the anti-tumor activity of PQEP and it s immunomodulation effect. Methods The pharmacological activity of PQS was measured using mice transplanted H22 and MFC tumor. Tumor-inhibiting a ctivities, weight of immune organ, nature killer cells activity and lymphocyte p roliferation ratio were investigated. Results PQEP showed antitumo r and immunomodulation activities in different degrees. Conclusion The anti-tumor activity and immunomodulation are closely linked. The anti- tumor effect of PQEP due to activation of the immunocompetence of the body.

Chinese Pharmacological Bulletin 2003;0(12):-
Aim This research was performed to study the anticancer effects of Panax quinquefolium effective parts (PQEP) in human chronic myeloid leukemia (K562). Method After K562 cells were routinely cultured,MTT assay was performed for cytotoxicity test. Cytotoxicity of PQEP (6.25~400 mg?L -1) in K562 cells was increased in a dose-and time-dependent manner. To explore the mechanism of cytotoxicity, we used several measures of apoptosis to determine whether these processes were involved in PQEP-induced leukemic cell death. Results PQEP induced the cell shrinkage, cell membrane blebbing, chromosomes condensation and DNA fragment. In addition, the flow cytometric analysis revealed PQEP (10~400 mg?L -1) dose-dependently increased apoptotic cells with hypodiploid DNA contents. Conclusion These results indicate that PQEP can control leukemic K562 cells through apoptosis and may have a possibility of potential anticancer activities.

Chinese Journal of Rehabilitation Theory and Practice 2010;16(7):610-612
Objective To compare the isometric muscle strength of muscle groups in the lower extremities of children with spastic hemiplegia among sides or ages. Methods17 spastic hemiplegic children were measured the muscle strength of hip, knee and ankle muscle groups with hand-held dynamometry (HHD). ResultsMuscle strength was weaker in the involved side than in the other side. In younger children, it was weaker of overall extremity, while in the older it was of the distal end mainly. ConclusionWhen applying strength training to spastic hemiplegic children, it is important to notice strength of all groups in lower extremity in younger children and the distal groups in older ones.

Based on the community-based and family-centered concepts, the Chain Rehabilitation Services for children with cerebral palsy (CP) integrates all kinds of social resources to build the early screening network and community rehabilitation centers, and to enhance the integration of rehabilitation and educational services. This chain model makes it possible to coordinate the related institutes to provide better services for children with CP. Better services and better systematic management of children with CP in Shanghai and surrounding areas has also been achieved through this project.

Chinese Journal of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation 2003;0(07):-
Objective To define whether correlation exists between the enlargement of lateral ventricles and motor development delay. Methods Motor development was assessed with Peabody Developmental Motor Scale (PDMS) in 28 children with cerebral palsy. Correlation between computerized tomography (CT) findings of enlargement of lateral ventricles (ventricle index, body index, width index and frontal horn index) and motor quotients of PDMS(GMQ,FMQ and TMQ) was analyzed. Results Width index was correlated with all three motor quotients (GMQ,FMQ and TMQ)( P

It is very important to have a clear and widely accepted definition and classification for clinical diagnosis, rehabilitation, research and social support of children with cerebral palsy, as well as in establishing a regional, national and global monitoring database. There are some new changes about the definition, clinical types and function classification of cerebral palsy recently domestic and abroad, which pay more attention to assessments on function and participation in daily life.

Objective To analyze the correlation between gross motor function and activities of daily living(ADL)in children with cerebral palsy. Methods 42 children with CP(26 males,16 females, average age 49.5±21.5 months,11 children with spastic quadriplegia,22 with spastic diplegia,5 with spastic hemiplegia,2 with athetosis and 2 with dystonia)were assessed with Gross Motor Function Classification System(GMFCS)and Gross Motor Function Measure(GMFM)for the assessment and classification of gross motor function.Pediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory(PEDI)was used to assess the ADL.The ADL of children with different levels of GMFCS and the correlation between gross motor function and ADL were analyzed. Results The more severe of GMFCS,the less standard score of PEDI.There was the highest correlation between the GMFM66 scores and scaled scores of PEDI in mobility and social function(r=0.84),whereas a weaker correlation appeared between GMFM66 scores and scaled scores of PEDI in social function(r=0.72).Conclusion Since the gross motor function of children with CP greatly affects the ADL,the gross motor function training should be the main item for CP children, the training goal of ADL should be made according to the levels of GMFCS.

ObjectiveTo investigate the efficacy of acupuncture point injection for fine motor functions in children with cerebral palsy.Methods57 children with cerebral palsy were treated by acupuncture point injection combined with occupational therapy. The efficacy was evaluated by the Peabody Developmental Motor Scale-Fine Motor (PDMS-FM).ResultsThe fine motor quotient (FMQ) of 34 children (59.7%) elevated. The raw scores of grasping subtest (Gr) elevated in 45 children (78.9%) and the raw scores of visual-motor integration (VI) elevated in 53 children (93.0%).ConclusionThe efficacy of acupuncture point injection combined with occupational therapy is significant in children with cerebral palsy.

Objective To study the application value of electroencephalogram and CT in children with cerebral palsy. Methods Electroencephalogram and CT examinations were carried out in 224 children with cerebral palsy. Results Abnormal prevalence of electroencephalogram was 47.77%, 58.88% of which were found as epileptic discharge. Abnormal prevalence of CT was 79.46%. The abnormal rate of CT was significantly higher than that of electroencephalogram ( P<0.001). The abnormal rates of electroencephalogram and CT among different types of cerebral palsy were not significantly different ( P>0.05).Conclusion Combination of CT and electroencephalogram will be helpful for the diagnosis and treatment in children with cerebral palsy.

The traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) theory of "treating heart and brain diseases with same methods (Nao Xin Tong Zhi: NXTZ)" has great significance to the treatment of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. It has been proven effective by a great deal of clinical researches. However, the underlying mechanism for this theory is still unclear. To provide insights into the potential mechanism of "NXTZ", this study attempts to deeply investigate the mechanism from two representative cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, coronary heart disease (CHD) and cerebral apoplexy. First, various data resources were integrated to obtain different types of biomedical entities including drugs, targets, pathways and diseases. Then, three different approaches including text mining, biological network and enrichment analysis were utilized to recognize the potential common features between CHD and cerebral apoplexy, and the corresponding functions of drugs which could treat both diseases, thus unveiling the mechanism of NXTZ.
